And here is a screenshot of it running in a window, I also tested at full screen (1680*1050) with all TDM setting to low and got around 22fps.

Thanks for the first installation tutorialvideo, Bikerdude.

I want to give you some tips,

  • Please describe in your video, where to get TDM gamefiles.
This is also the chance to promote the game (and maybe also your maps).
  • Please change the container name from "Windows" to "Darkmod" or something else.
  • Please describe howto use the tdm-updater in playonmac. Create also een playonmac-shortcut for it.
  • In the Miscellaneous-tab, you find a button to open the container folder for reaching the the c-drive.
  • Pleace advice in your video to use the standard configuration that playonmac gives you, when running the wizard.
Changing the standard settings its for debugging or taste.
  • In the playonmac preferences you can download wine version files.

[the list will be updated]

Please make another tutorial video using these tips, and place it on your site and wiki.

Will do as I wasnt entirly happy with that video etc, but -

  1. I'll have to have a think about how to do this in as few steps as possible.
  2. I will see about getting it listed directly within the PlayOnMac application.
  3. As essentially its is a virtual windows drive, where we can run multiple application from, why?
  4. This can be done in point 1.
  5. But you also have the shortcut on the harddrive that takes the user to the visrtual c-drive.
  6. I thought I did, but if your refering to changing the windows version from Xp to 7 that has to be done.
  7. I thought I showed that also..?

  1. To show the tdm installation procedure in a few steps And Userfriendlier as possible, unpacking the the tdm-updater, rightclick on it, "open with > playonmac" and follow the wizard.
But the updater can crash and sometimes the create shortcut-menu doesnt apear. so you can also use my tdm-installer with playonmac and then create the shortcuts.
Or create manually a container for tdm, unpack the offline package in there and run the updater in this container (and create shortcuts) (as you said in the video).
  2. In the youtube video you can promote tdm and your maps.
If you want to list tdm in the playonmac application, you have ask the developers of the application. (as you said it in the video)
  3. Opinion matter. For me, its looks decent and you can avoid problems with it.
  4. see point 1.
  5. Its user/beginner-friendlier to use the button in the tab, imho. Apple has his reasons to hide the library or other folders.

If running the updater in playonmac and you want to install the game in your mac os home folder,

you have to point the install path in the updater to the z-drive.

Because the mac filesystem is standard mounted on wine's z: drive.

So for an example, the install path in the updater can be "z:\Users\bikerdude\games\darkmod".

My advise: to avoid problems, use the wine's c-drive, insteat of the z-drive.

The delay for displaying the right icon for the shortcut after creation, is is a standard problem.

  • 1 year later...

OSX version: 10.9.5

PlayOnMac version: 4.2.1

Your graph card: GTX 760 and 8800GT

So today I discovered I could just plug in the GTX 760 from my media PC into my MacPro, with the idea that The Darkmod would runn better under PoM better on the 760 that it did on my 8800GT.

But in the same test spot I was seeing the same low FPS of 20 on the 760 as I was on the 8800 -

- this suggested that PoM is CPU bound, which is both impressive and disappointing. Does anyone else have a reasonably specced Mac with a descent GPU, and is the perf under PoL (PlayonLinux) the same as PoM..?

dont know.

But you can test this using a live-cd/usb.

In theory, you get the same poor performance.

then is the sollution to run tdm natively under linux on your mac.

you dont want that as a mac user.

for now, if the mac user want play tdm, he has to dualboot or use wine.

(how is the performance of tdm in the new wineskin-container?)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
