Steep steps

Recommended Posts

So I started work on some kind of sailing vessel. And I am just wondering if steps on picture could be some sort of problem for AI. Articles suggest not. But I do not remember very steep steps in maps... I also read some very old topic about galleon and some problems with steps...

You can always make the steps nonsolid and put nodraw brushes there for the AI to pathfind on instead.

It's possible to get very steep stairs by i.e. having each step only 1 unit long but 12 units high. My guess is AI wont have a problem with that.

You're planning on using this in TDM, right? AI can't path on models, so you're going to need to add worldspawn brushes in DR for them to walk on.

Adding worldspawn brushes for AI to walk on is dead easy because you don't have to be accurate. AI will place their feet correctly on your model surface, as long as there's a WS brush anywhere approximately 0-30 units below any pathable areas to let them know which bits they are allowed to walk on. A few roughly placed brushes would cover that.

Very interesting sailing ship, keep it up.

BTW, does anyone know whether we have a good-looking cog ship model somewhere in the assets ?

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.
