Other countries in the DarkMod Universe

Hello to all!,
I was wondering about making a mission in a place other than Bridgeport.

the states we know about are:

- the Empire, of which Bridgeport is a part of; we can assume the architecture in such places is more or less the same (Braeden, etc.)

- Menoa, mentioned by the Wiki. It is a rival country, West of Bridgeport.
The Builder church is there too, so it should be more or less European... Perhaps, where Bridgeport is "Provence", Menoa is "Spain"? What did the creators think when they invented such a country?

About different regions, such as the Moor countries (that would be our "North Africa / Middle East")... we don't have specific assets for that, and we do not know properly the architecture of those countries; a mission in the Middle East would probably resort to copying from the 1st Assassin'sCreed XD

I think everything you mentioned can fit within the fiction.

In my personal version, different from the official line in some ways I think, the Holy City east of Bridgeport is like Rome, and Bridgeport is its major rival, so I compare it to a Constantinople-like analog.

And on that note, I'd prefer Menoa to be ethnically and religiously separate and a constant threat to the Empire, as an Ottoman analog. But I think somewhere that's contradicted in the fiction (Menoa and the empire share religion, but ethnically diffrtent) and it's more like the Spain analog, which imo is getting too close to the European map for comfort. But worth noting one reason Spain is special is the long-term medieval Islam occupation, and it's worth having that flavor in the official history too in some way imo.

And the moors to the south are the Arab analog, religiously close to Menoa (in my version), but ethnically different.

I mean, the canon is kept deliberately a bit vague and flexible to let authors fill out a history and culture of the different regions. The real world is one model, but it doesn't have to limit your imagination either.

Or think about other world examples. Eg, I've been interested in the interaction of classic SEAsian empires, the Khmer and Bagan and Mon empires, with Indian states to the west, big China to the north, and Vietnam to the east. There was a massive 4-way world war between the Buddhist and Hindi kingdoms a millinium ago. The fact people in the west hardly know any of it makes it all the better fodder for our world imo. My point is, don't be afraid to subvert or play with expectations. Who says our world has to follow the medieval European script to the T?

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

More or less, yes. The TDM universe is like an alternate Earth, with fairly similar geography (we use real-world globes, for example). Menoa is like Spain/Portugal--a rising power due to their exploration of the New World. Since Bridgeport is a major hub for trade, Menoa tried to annex it from the Empire, but failed. Now they focus more on the west.

The Holy City is basically Rome--a Rome that is collapsing a millennia later than it did in our own history. The pagans are basically Basques and Celts, living north and west of Bridgeport, and rebelling against centuries of rule by the Empire. Dem is right about the Moors to the south.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
