Recommendation: Surround sound headphones with mic for £50

I have a bunch of sites I regularly visit for tech news, techpowerup being one of them, the thing they do different is daily hardware snippets. This then reminded me I have always wanted a good set of surround headphones, and then I thought I would like a mic on there as well.

 

As this is a nice to have item, I'm not spending more on them that I would on a sound card, so with that in mind is it possible to get what I'm after for the budget I have? and if so what do people recommend.?

As far as i read, if your sound card supports virtual surround headphone output, there's no point in getting surround headphones. Either you will end up with headphones with an inferior sound chip which does the surround, or the hardware surround, e.g. 3 speakers in each of the earphones, will be inferior to what you get with a virtual surround function. So i'd recommend getting a normal good quality stereo headset, and use the surround function of your sound card, if any, or buy one which has a decent surround simulation.

+1 B) I'm using a Beyerdynamics DT990 Pro with Soundblaster Z and I'm very satisfied. Before I used the X-FI Xtreme Gamer with the same good results. But this card didn't provide enough amp for the headphones.

Don't buy a ready gaming headset. Invest some money in a nice sound card, even less on a separate mic and the most for really nice headphones.

 

I am using this soundcard, that mic and these headphones. But it won't work with TDM somehow since it doesn't recognize software controlled 7.1 it seems.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?       I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
