Thief Glyphs

I think I read somewhere that glyph powers may be possible for the dark mod. I think maybe it would be cool for your hand to go up and make the little symbol for the magical power you want like in the ingame movies from Thief 3 or Arx Fatalis. Would this be something that the community might like?

An interviewer suggested that we consider this. While there will be some elements of magic in Dark Mod, it's not going to be so heavy as that. Slightly leaning more towards reality...but not completely.

How about in-game lore that teaches you the movements for glyph spells, then you have a key "write glyph" and then you use the mouse to sketch it in the air... Would be groovy. Don't know whether TDM would have to code for it specifically, or whether the FM writers could cover it...

Also, there would probably need to be something to prevent people from just posting the glyphs on the 'net... But I think learning by reading it, and then actually having to do the action (as opposed to <key> does spell <x>) is really groovy.

Copying Thief verbatim wasn't the suggestion, but still... Glyph powers = teh goovy.

BTW, I always thought this chappy was a keeper... Who is he, then? Builder person? Thieve's guild person?

Hmmm, I'd still like to see glyph-sketching action in some FM - I guess I'll just have to magic myself into an FM writer :( *gulp*

The keepers' traditional methods of remaining unseen have begun to fail them.. so they decided, if someone sees them, they'd better not tell anyone else, or they'll send this guy over to start playing a drum solo on your knees.

If that doesn't work, they'll cut you.

He doesn't look like that any more, he's one of the Builders. WHat would a keeper be doing wielding a pair of hammers and wearing a hammer symbol necklace?

Well, it made sense that he was a Keeper when I didn't know TDM wasn't including Keepers! The hammer necklace looked a bit like a cross, and the other things? Like no hammers I've seen, but, this is not the real world!

Basically, it made sense it the time!

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
