Looks interesting, going to give it a try.

Seems a bit ridiculous that Valve still hasn't finished the series (especially considering the cliff hanger they left it on) and they haven't even told fans what's happening on any level, not even a confirmation it's coming.

Just from what I see it seems rather out there even for a mod. But I'm actually really skeptical of mods basing themselves as a sequel.

Part of me really understands where Valve is coming from but I can't help but feel the pain from either a fan or developer's perspective. The main vibes I get is that they've been waiting on developing new tech to base it on. But also are on the fence about a it altogether. The thing is most people expect something more grand than even Valve can pull off and as I see it, they dug this hole themselves. Even if a sequel wasn't received as well, I just want to see them roll with the Half-Life universe and start pumping out some more games.

I'm not near as hard to please as long as it's good content. In all honesty I just want to see a new HL game from it's parent company, with all the care and devotion of the original titles. Least to say it's touching to see a fan runner up, so I guess I'd wait to see what people say about it.

Modeler galore & co-authors literally everything

It's almost a decade now, the main writer (Marc Laidlaw) left, and this was after Gabe basically admitted in some interview that due to Valve's flat structure where anyone works on whatever they want the game wasn't getting much attention.

I don't think we're getting it, since Valve isn't about to admit it's cancelled.

That said, it amuses the hell out of me Sven coop basically offers the entirety of Half Life 1's campaign for free, Black Mesa used to offer it all for free (that's a discussion for another thread), albeit remade and on a new engine... And now this.

With this, I honestly feel like it's safe to say fans are carrying the absolute majority of Half Life's weight.

I like to record difficult stealth games, and right now you wonderful people are the only ones delivering on that front.

Click here for the crappy channel where that happens.

That's very probably because Valve long ago discovered that they don't need to create games on their own anymore when they can much more easily pimp up mods with help of their creators (CS, Portal, L4D, DOTA2), live from the work of others by taking percentages exploiting the Steam monopoly and maybe selling some hats by the way. The whole payed mod fiasko recently showed to me what Valve is centered around right now :(. Anyway, an average mod being sold and another average mod daring to call itself HL2:EP3 shows that the mod community might deteriorate as well...

Yeah it's disappointing.

Half Life is of course just an ordinary action game but there were really some great ideas, especially in the second game. Very obnoxious and suspicious of Valve to delay finishing this series. The suspense reaches only frustration for those people who genuinely wanted to see Half Life 3/ Half Life 2: Episode 3 (whichever thesis seems more likely to you).

To me eye-opening were the opinions stated by a very clever, albeit now deceased reviewer:

But mainly people hated him for this:

Edited by Anderson

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
