For my next experiment (after creating several installation scripts, a thief 1 converter and trying to run TDM on Android),

I would like to create an Android app for TDM.

 

I was thinking about developing a Companion app, that shows the mission map, objectives, a compass, players stats, etc.

(So the player don't have to switch full screen menu's in TDM to get information and keeping the ambiance.)

 

I would like to hear your thoughts, suggestions, etc.

But there is one important problem:

I dont know how to communicate with TDM over a local network.

(cant spawn a server also. Or is there an other sollution)

For now, I can try to create a offline map viewer.

Tough one. We removed most of the multi-player server functions long ago.

 

You might be able to borrow some changes from Theivious:

I published a new version of my app my portfolio.

I added the map of st luccia's and changed background & labels.

 

Are there any plans for something similar for DarkRadiant (extra control space on the smartphone, like GIMP's floating controls but on a second screen)?

Not soon, because its for me my first android project and need to see how fast i grow accustomed to this.

And i dont know if darkradiant has a server or something, to talk to.

Nice work. There are some issues, such as the clock looking stretched out on my phone. I think you should use a separate image on top of the background for that.

The map view is a neat idea but I can't change the pivot point when scaling that widget.

My first Android project did not look any better, so I won't complain about that. Instead, i'll post here my apk with the source. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ysb5c2nhgz0i43w/tdmApp.zip?dl=0

I included a local network scanner to list all devices on your subnet, but then I realised that connecting to a pc might be tricky if it is on another subnet, so maybe we should use Bluetooth for pairing devices on the local network.

At this moment, i dont want to continue work on this app.

Because first I need to learn more about creating an android app.

and the main cause is that I dont to update the app in the future every time, when there is a new mission published.

 

For me, the app that i publisched on my portfolio, is just a proof of concept, a tought.

Yes I saw these hints also in my research. But what happen if the mapper adds a second playerspawn to the map?

Its a shame that you remove the multiplayer features. I would love to play a TDM co-op and see some Thievious/venture graphic-features in TDM.

(its great to see that Thief3-Garret model on a id-tech engine,..)

Maybe in the future. For those are willing to make an app, DR needs to have something to talk to. Edited by freyk

The title of this thread somehow made me think of a augmented reality "Dark Mod Go". Could be pretty funny, even though people would probably start doing really illegal things. :P

A shame of course. Again proves that it's not that easy.

 

Even for St. Lucia as it's a pre-loaded map. Very useful would it be to have the app on Google Play considering how much it's loaded with other apps.

Well, I learned by playing tdm, how to improve my house security and there are several methods to solve a problem. Edited by freyk

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?       I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
