Obligatory Metal Gear Solid thread

I figure I'd put my videos of one of the best stealth games ever made with no sense of shame.

There aren't enough minimalist runs of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in my opinion.

Fantastic series of games.

"My milkshake bringeth all ye gentlefolk to the yard. Verily 'tis better than thine, I would teach thee, but I must levy a fee."

"When Kleiner showed me the sky-line of New York I told him that man is like the coral insect—designed to build vast, beautiful, mineral things for the moon to delight in after he is dead."

Fantastic series of games.

In the process of playing through MGS 3 again I really do have to say that between Thief, MGS3 and Chaos Theory I don't see why so many modern stealth games fail to emphasize sound so well.

I must confess that until this recent challenge run I did I saw MGS 3 as just good, but on replay it's simply great.

I love the open world of phantom pain.

Am I the only one who feels like the AI is way, way too blind for how big the world is?

Is Phantom Pain worth a play?

I wouldn't advise it unless you're a fan of Metal Gear, but I'm one of the people that enjoyed Ground Zeroes for being shorter and more well made overall.

Phantom Pain just doesn't feel finished, at all. Wait for a sale, because what is there is pretty fun, if unpolished.

I advice it to every tdm player.

For me, it doesn't feel unfinished.

I love the open world concept (rather then the "small missions" of the earlier metal gear and TDM), the story and the atmosphere.

I recommend to look at player demo's, before you buy.

Look at the following demo's:

I dont know which difficulty setting he uses. (snake doesn't wears his chicken hat.)

And if i played that mission, i will not roll the whole time.

I think I should preface, I think the game isn't finished (several plot elements are wrapped up suddenly at the very end with little to no setup, and some aren't wrapped up at all, and half the camouflage patterns refer to sneaking environments that simply don't exist), but what is there is absolutely gold (if overly easy in my opinion, for what that's worth).

I just feel I should emphasize that I think Ground Zeroes by contrast, while small, is an absolutely incredible experience that makes me wish Phantom Pain was more like it in terms of difficulty.

Try Ground Zeroes.

If you like it, and are okay with bigger scale and less per inch polish, go for Phantom Pain.

Also, the difficulty he's on is default.

Game breaking information (and mild unlockable spoilers) below.

The AI in Phantom Pain by default (when they aren't a sniper unit and they aren't using night vision goggles) sees you while crawling at 20 meters away, including if you crawl slowly, quickly, or are rolling.

This becomes 10 meters if you hold the use key and lay low as he has to at one point during the video.

These rules apply at all times, no matter what camouflage you are wearing (this applies to the reflective golden paint unlockable camouflage as well.)

The moment you figure these things out, marking enemies and playing the entire game through the silent rolling technique shown becomes entirely too easy, since there isn't a hard difficulty outside of directly modding the game somehow.

This is all the opinion of a very, very picky man, keep in mind.

For something on a Playstation 2 this game aged really well.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
