Weird errors when I start TDM

hiya everyone! ;D

 

I downloaded TDM and installed it in it's own folder in the downloads folder and started it and all went well till finishing loading the training mission.

 

It loads then says the bit about please wait as it has finished loading, then it dies and an error window pops up.

 

So, I tried a few times and it just keeps doing it at the same point all the time.

 

I then went and downloaded Freyk's "installer beta" mentioned in post no. 34 here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18205-the-dark-mod-204-is-here/page-2

 

I did the update the first time and after downloading TDM again, using Freyk's "installer beta" which he mentioned is now stable, at the end of that thread. So everything is ready and supposed to work. But it still dies at the same point after the loading of the training mission when it says please wait.

 

My system is win7 32 bit with 2GB RAM and integrated GPU with 128MB VRAM.

 

I copied and pasted the error message below and put a bunch of x's where it shows my IP address.

The problem would be your system. It's 32 bit windows and only 2 GB's of ram. The error at the bottom of the print out says malloc failure, which is a memory allocation failure. Essentially, you don't have enough Ram. Maximum Ram you can install on Windows 32 bit is around 4 GB I believe.

Simply replacing the gamex86 pdf and TheDarkMod thingie with the ones in the zip file worked perfectly. ;D I didn't bother replacing the fms file with the blank one in the zip download cos I wanted the training file and it was all cool. Great graphics still! ;D

Yeah Bikerdude, I have a 4GB stick of RAM in the pc but for some weird reason it only sees 2 gigs, even though win 7 32 bit should see around 3.5GB RAM

 

I read about about applying lateral pressure to the cpu when reseating it like mentioned in this thread - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/263287-30-bios-windows-recognizes-half-memory so i bought paste and will try that and do a check on the bios too

 

My pc can switch to 64bit and use the full 8GB Ram that the motherboard can handle but I am stuck with win 7 ultimate 32 bit OS that is an OEM version from ASUS. https://www.asus.com/Mini-PCs/V6P5G41E/

 

So it's gonna cost me to get a win7 64bit version and i turned down the win 10 update that was waiting in my tray till the 29th of last month cos of all the bad stuff I've read about win 10.

I then went and downloaded Freyk's "installer beta" mentioned in post no. 34 here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18205-the-dark-mod-204-is-here/page-2

I did the update the first time and after downloading TDM again, using Freyk's "installer beta" which he mentioned is now stable, at the end of that thread. So everything is ready and supposed to work.

The installer (for windows) doesnt guarantee that TDM works on users system, but it solves some important problems users can get.

It doesnt do system requirements checks and TDM 's standard settings changes. (but should I include this?)

Well your installer is a great thing to have and I don't know if it's possible but it would be really cool to have your installer doing a system requirements check and then if the system is not good enough, to have the option to click a button to install Nbohr1more's files in that zip file to make TDM work perfectly with almost any system. ;D

 

Reinstalling an older version of TDM isn't something I would recommend. That could just cause issues with playing missions... especially newer ones.

Yeah, it could be any of many problems like that link I posted above shows so I'll try to find a solution bit by bit as i get time. I tried a bios update but there is no newer bios for my board. The last version listed on the link above that shows my pc is 0203 and it's mentioned under "DOS" and "Others" when you click for the various OS versions under Drivers and Tools and I have 0204 installed. There are no bios files available for win7 32 bit.

The motherboard also only shows 2048MB.

What's the make, model and bios version of your mobo. Its entirly possible that the chipset is limited to 2GB, shockingly there are boards out there with the limitation.

Well, I'll try get another 4GB Ram stick sometime and test again with that. In the meantime I'll try reseating the CPU with lateral pressure and cleaning the contacts on the RAM and it's slots. Not much more to do other than that I think.

 

The RAM has this smart looking plastic cover like this http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cmx4gx3m1a1333c9 with the 4GB info on it so I'll see if it comes off so I can see what the info on the actual stick says cos it could be that the person that sold the PC simply stuck a 4GB cover on a 2GB stick.

I agree with Bikerdude.

Mainboard perhaps support max. 4gb, but support only 2x2gb, not 1x4gb.

Exchange for 2x2gb?

 

Use CPU-Z for spec: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Check mainboard manual. Estimate that it will say "support 4gb as 2x2gb".

Old machine, what is integrated GPU? Intel?

 

 

Oh you post. I guess socket 1155 H61 mainboard fsb@1333. Needs 2x2gb not 1x4gb.

Some support up to 16gb, but only 64bit.

I hink perhaps try 2x2gb.

 

 

 

Ahh, I was going to suggest it might be something like that. I had boards that had to be configured that way.

The PDF manual for the board says it can take a particular 4GB stick from Samsung, but all the other RAM sticks it mentions are for 1 or 2 GB only, so I think I'll have to get two 2GB sticks cos I cant find a supplier for the Samsung one.
