So the game is out, and it's amazing. I played for about 2 hours last night and I have to say; it's like I'm back playing Myst again for the first time.

Reviews for it have been great also, averaging about 90% as of last night across reviews.

Go and get it, this company deserves your support if you're even remotely interested in these types of games!

I've been playing this too - everyone's mileage will vary depending on if you liked Myst/Riven back in the day, but personally I love it and am very impressed so far. I really love that it retains that old Myst feel but that it's a brand new IP. Visuals are gorgeous, and the puzzles seem challenging. I'm sort of at that stage where I'm just taking the whole world in, and trying to figure out what's going on and where everything is. Highly recommended, you should check it out for only $30.

Awesome news. :)

Seems Cyan are back in form as a developer. I'm thrilled they've finally succeeded with a proper new IP after so many years. A comeback well earned.

For me Myst was always more of this atmosphere thing which I felt Ice-Pick Lodge games did great too without overcomplicated puzzles that refrain me from moving onwards.

I'm also biased a little because they never made any effort to make the original Myst, Riven compatible with new pc's. Also no Myst 3 and 4. How am I supposed to get them anymore from Eastern Europe? It's 2016. Is it really any better to let them die in retail ephemeral nothingness rather than digitally immortalise them? Even if ubisoft gets 80% of shares, they developed those....

Hard to find reasons to get obduction or artificially motivate one. In light of all facts. Best of luck to them with sales though. It was a good Kickstarter.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

Distribution is almost always up to the publisher, not the developer.

They almost never have any say.

However, Myst is on Gog: https://www.gog.com/game/myst_masterpiece_edition

So is Riven: https://www.gog.com/game/riven_the_sequel_to_myst

Also Myst 5: https://www.gog.com/game/myst_5_end_of_ages

Myst 3 and 4 were shit compared to the original ones, as they were rushed and cobbled together due to Ubisoft oversight.

Blaming Cyan for the transgressions of Ubisoft is wrong.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

I'm going to hold out for the VR version which should be released shortly. (although it will initially only come out for the rift, should be able to play it on the vive with Revive) I never played Myst but I imagine this type of game would be pretty incredible in VR. At some point I'll have to put together a general VR impressions/"review" post

Not according to friends from abroad.

Cyan's word is gold compared to a few distressed emails at Ubisoft. Their answer is "we have no such plans, thanks for asking!"

Well, that's interesting.

Myst 3 was developed by Presto Studios and published by Ubisoft.

Myst 4 was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published again by Ubisoft.

So I'm not sure where and how Cyan could possibly release a product online that they neither developed or published.

Unless of course they retained some legal hold over the final product.

Myst 3/4 are easily obtainable used through either Amazon or Ebay, for no more than 5 or 10 bucks each. I guess the real question is whether they run properly on today's PCs.

If you're really desperate, you can always pick up an orignal Xbox somewhere and play those versions (and also on the PS2 for Myst 3).

And according to this reddit, all Myst games play fine on at least Windows 7.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
