[Resolved in TDM 2.10] A borderless fullscreen-windowed solution using AutoHotkey

Hi everyone!

This subject has likely been approached already, however I wanted to share my fullscreen-windowed solution as some of you may find this useful.

By using the wonderful AutoHotkey and a few lines of code that I found online and wish I remembered where so I can actually give credit where it is due (whoever you are thanks for this!)...

...this script will work on pretty much any game that has the option to run in a window.

EDIT : Somehow I forgot to mention that this is mainly for those of us who have multi-monitor setup, as Alt-Tabbing is not fun!

The script should make anything windowed to the size of your current desktop resolution, I have only tested this in 1920 x 1080 though.

2016_09_01_00_05_20_The_Dark_Mod_2_04.pn

To use this, please set the game settings as show in image above and then download Full_Screen_Any_Windowed_Game.exe

(Understandable dubiousness for home-made executables can hopefully be dispelled with these virus check results, I'm here to help, not hinder :laugh:)

Once downloaded, run Full_Screen_Any_Windowed_Game.exe and then load up Dark Mod.

Once running in a window, simply press Ctrl+F11 to make it borderless fullscreen!

Press Ctrl+F12 to return to a window again!

To exit the script, right-click the taskbar icon and choose "Exit".

>> You should make certain that Dark Mod is the active window before using the shortcuts! <<

It is possible to Ctrl+F12 your desktop into a window, which is actually quite fun/weird to experience, you can always Ctrl+F11 it back to normal though!

You can also attempt to fullscreen things like Windows Calculator or the Taskbar for wacky results!

The entire script is literally this:

#SingleInstance force
#Persistent

^F11::
SetFull:
    {
    WinSet, Style, -0xC40000, A
    WinMove, A, , 0, 0, %A_ScreenWidth%, %A_ScreenHeight%
Return
}

^F12::
SetWindow:
    {
    WinSet, Style, +0xC40000, A
Return
}

If you still do not want to run the executable provided, you can download and install AutoHotkey, copy the script above exactly and then save it to a "newscriptnamegoeshere.ahk" then run that instead.

Another thing to note for nVidia users: and I didn't realise this for years... but when you run certain games in a window the colours can be restricted!

To solve this open your nVidia control panel and observe the image below. This will allow the full colour range and will no longer be a "musty grey" so that the dark shadows have proper gamma!

I hope that you find this as useful as I did! Please let me know if this doesn't work for any reason and I will be more than happy to help!

Happy borderless fullscreen-windowed thieving! :ph34r:

My Autoexec.cfg contains seta g_fov "65" and seta r_gamma "0.9" for a more immersive Dark Mod experience...

Thats a handy tool for games.

What are the differences, when binding screenres-consolecommands to a key in darkmod.cfg?
Or adding a deskopshortcut with screenres-arguments?

Binding screenrescommands in darkmod.cfg:
Add the following line to the darkmod.cfg

bind "F11" "exec windowedmode.cfg"

create a file named "windowedmode.cfg"
and in that file place the following lines

set r_fullscreen 0
set r_customheight 600
set r_customwitdh 800
vid_restart

Then hit the "F11"-key to load tdm in windowed-mode. (takes a while, to refresh the game)

Or using a desktop shortcut, for example: thedarkmod.exe +r_mode +r_fullscreen 0 +r_cutstomheight 800 +r_customwitdh 600"
(For beginners: use tdmlauncher to add application arguments:http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18310-the-dark-mod-launcher )

Borderless fullscreen is quite useful. Some games don't Alt+Tab well, TDM being one of them.

Running in Windowed mode usually means you have the window border. Fullscreen borderless, looks like a fullscreen app, but you can still alt+tab between applications without crashing or weirdness.

It was extremely useful for Dark Souls 1, with DSFix adding the option for Borderless Fullscreen. Alt Tabbing in that game was always like playing Russian roulette.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

This exactly.

Sorry I completely forgot to mention about the multi-monitor reason for this script!

Is there anyway I can change the title of this post or who I could contact to do this. Would be useful having this information within the title itself!

Well... the weekend is here, Dark Mod mode = 1! :D

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
