[DR] Cannot select anything except Func Statics

Hello,

I think something has gone wrong - I have been struggling with the ease of using the newer version of DR.

After an auto-save, the .map file I am working on will no longer allow me to select anything other than existing func statics.
I cannot figure out why.

Imported redesigned trap from single .map file to main map.
Spent some time to remake selection layers for ease of placement.
Doublechecked scripts and nurbs.
Everything looks ok.

I'm not sure as to why DR will not allow me to select any brushes or meshes again...

Any other map file will allow me to select brushes and patch/mesh as normal, class worldspawn - yet the main map... it is not possible.
Been trying to figure out for a few hours and am losing patience - Very close to punching computer in face.

Is there a new button I have pressed that disallows me to select things?

Have tried in orthographic view, under different renders, through layers (the few things I managed to recategorise), via number, through filters...
Simply cannot select a thing.

Even restarting DR and reloading the map - cannot select the patch or any other brush remaining worldspawn that requires edit.

Trying to rebuild a section of map, importing smaller trap-maps into main map... has something on import FUBAR'd teh whole thing..?

I think it happened after using the surface inspector to adjust a texture. Once it was oriented and looked ok, esc off the object - decided it needed a small tweak to close a tiny gap, cannot select face, vertice, point or object - accidentally used the tool to rotate entity by fixed degree instead of free placement using Rotate sphere.

Figure must be mistake on my part and perhaps I have pushed a wrong button that disallows me to select anything other than the prefabs I have saved or the func statics I have fixed in place...

Oh.
Also ran "check missing target" script, in case something was wired wrong, after setting mesh (no missing targets).

Have also tried turning computer off and on again, no dice.

This is rather speculative, but the current preview version has a 'groups' feature for manipulating things together (controlled through the two buttons in the left-hand panel that look like three nodes joined together), and I remember being rather surprised when I imported prefabs and found everything pre-grouped. Maybe all worldspawn has somehow beome grouped together...?

 

Failing that, try backing up your .darkradiant (and .darkradiant.bak) file somewhere and removing it from the map's folder, and see whether that helps after restarting DR (I think it's where editor-specific things like layer info are stored).

Hello,

It was odd that newly made brushes/objects and mesh could be selected, so after a few tries - I found a way to fix it - I made a new file, saved it and then copied the old.map file into the new.map using notepad++, deleting existing text.

Now it is possible to select all and any stuff.

I might have removed the old file as part of new organisation system (might have zipped, or it will be in recycle bin, hopefully) - will reload next session on the machine and make a video, sure, if there and happens again.

Since the map file works after a re-save - perhaps it was some bug with Dark Radiant.
I have no idea how to re-create it.

Perhaps it was something to do with how I was importing things from another map (copy-pasta import of layer groups from other maps, forced into new map layers for session), as it is required to rebuild some large sections due to the new movers cause nodamage thing...

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
