The Thief Movie

Does anybody know if the Thief movie is still going to be made, or did the blunder with thinking a new game based off the movie would be made result in Eidos Montreal saying "You're fired"? Does anybody know? I really want for there to at least still be a movie.

If anyone is hyped for a videogame movie after the last 3 decades of them, I don't know what to tell them.

I like to record difficult stealth games, and right now you wonderful people are the only ones delivering on that front.

Hey, the Tomb Raider movies were good. And I liked Ratchet and Clank.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_games

I'm going to spare you the bulleted list (and debating those two movies) and just point out there is a really, really bad history with video game movies.

We got Hitman and Assassin's Creed in the last few years, just to remind us that yes, this would keep happening.

Even when these movies are good, they're never quite as good as their peers in the genre (I may get drunk and enjoy Mortal Kombat as a cheesy action movie from the 90's, but it isn't quite as great as the stand outs in the genre), so the bar is set for "I hope it's average" from the get go.

To boot, a Thief movie will most likely be based on elements from the new game. Hollywood sees no value in decade old video game IP's, so best case scenario we would want a fan film or indie movie, not a big budget flick.

The only decent films based upon "video" (computer) games were silent hill and resident evil.

I like the comment: "this is a far cry from a decent movie"

But was probably the most true to game-plot movie I've seen.

// a lot of games I play these days kind of are movies... I used to play telltale games with others, never alone, because it was a family thing (kinda, mostly). Games are better than movies because I actually feel something and can be anything. Movies dictate a single reality. Games create multiverse.

Far Cry's only real competition is Dead or Alive in terms of accuracy.

Also, again, I have to emphasize, SH isn't considered good by horror movie fans (plot holes and the b-plot with the husband eating time are common complains) and Resident Evil isn't bad for a drunk group viewing, it ends up being more akin to a pop song for teenagers you release every couple years.

Example of drunk group fun.

Like I said, the bar is set so low that these movies being passable is considered good for a video game movie.

To be honest, Thief 4 wasn't that bad on its own. Only in comparison to the first 3 games was it stank

Don't say that too loudly here.

Not going to talk about it here because we have an entire thread for that discussion.

Are we forgetting the best video game movie there is: Metal Gear Solid 4?

That isn't Beyond Two Souls.

I intend to do a ghost run of that game at some point, so keep it down about the 8 hours of cutscenes, if you'd be so kind.

Couple that with the gutted lore, character progression and mixed with bad controls I can still agree.

Modeler galore & co-authors literally everything

This is at least the third time there's been rumors of a movie, and the previous ones weren't made.

And they would have been the good ones!

If they went back to the roots and did a movie about the original trilogy, I'd be all for that.

I don't think it's likely the way contemporary studios think, but it's not inconceivable.

Aside from that, a Dishonored movie would be pretty cool.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
