Very nice. I've kept a folder of Space Engine videos from near the beginning.

LiveLife42 is one of the early masters that have inspired me, but there are a lot of other great ones too.

Edit: In the comments somebody mentions Subnautica. I don't know if you can put it in quite the same category, but it's definitely pretty. Still unfinished though. It's just there for the sandbox, but if you're curious where the story is going it still needs more pieces.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I'm guessing my copy of Space Engine would run a lot better if I had an SSD.

Here are some things that need to be checked out when Space Engine's version/imagery is updated:

Jupiter: has had its poles imaged by Juno's polar orbits.

Saturn: Cassini has taken the best ever images of small moons like Pan and Atlas. There's more imagery of Titan, which has been the focus of most Cassini orbits, and now Cassini is doing "death dives" between Saturn and its rings. I don't know how detailed the imagery of the rings can get since the particles are very small, but some of the science details discovered by these orbits could affect how the creator of Space Engine decides to render planetary rings.

Every distant solar system object and lots more: the James Webb Space Telescope is expected to collect imagery starting in early 2019. It will be better suited for imaging small Kuiper belt objects than Hubble.

2014 MU69: First target of the extended New Horizons mission. Flyby on January 1, 2019. Many times larger than 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

Moon: many late 2017 Lunar missions including Chang'e 5 and several Lunar XPRIZE private landers. In late 2018, Chang'e 4 will be the first lander on the far side of the moon.

Sun and Venus: Parker Solar Probe launches in July 2018.

Moon discovered around 2007 OR10.

Ceres: more recent imagery.

And in the further future:

Planet Nine, if found. Could be discovered in the next 2-3 years.

Psyche in 2026.

Jupiter trojans in 2027.

Pallas: no mission planned, may be seen in greater detail by JWST.

You're dead right there dem, he is definitely the master of SE. The guys who talked about Subnautica is a regular, he knows the sort of games I like, and thought

I'd like it. lol I did get it, and you're right it is early alpha but still interesting.

I love doing SE videos, but I need to put more time into them I think.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
