Beta Testing 2.06

That's right, I do have to order a new PSU. That's a lot cheaper than a new GPU though.

I'm trying to update to the latest 2.06 Beta, got through over 100 MB and that all completed fine, but then Microsoft VC++ 2013 redist tries to install but it sits there at initializing.. and doesn't do anything.

 

The update log just shows:

And I can't stop it either. I hit Cancel in VC++ installer, the button greys out but then the window is still there.

I hit Cancel on tdm_update and it's still open also on "Waiting for threads to finish".

 

I had to use task manager to kill the VC++ process, then I could close the updater.

 

EDIT: this seems to be an issue with my computer.

Back to testing 2.06 and when I fire up tdm I am seeing the following minor console errors -

during The Dark Mod initialization...

I have no idea what the first line is refering too as there isnt a file with the name 'tdm_sound_sfx02.pk4.tmp', the last 3 lines are a simple edit of the material def.

The missing foot step sounds for the Ai/Player issue seems to be back.

 

I shutdown and restart of the app appeared to fix it - not very helpfull but there wasnt info on why it stopped working and then fixed itself :mellow:

Spoke too soon, its looks like a file permissions issue?

And this tmp file issue "WARNING:Cannot rename E:\Darkmod\tdm_sound_sfx02.pk4.tmp to E:\Darkmod\tdm_sound_sfx02.pk4", now has a file I can see in the tdm folder. So renamed the tdm_sound_sfx02.pk4 to tdm_sound_sfx02.pk4.old and the tdm_sound_sfx02.temp to tdm_sound_sfx02.pk4.

 

And that fixed the sound issue, so my question is what process is creating the temp and trying to rename/overwrite an exiting .PK4 file..?

Sounds files are decompressed during installation. The *tmp file receives the decompressed files, and then the *tmp file is renamed as the original file.

 

For some reason, your installation appears to have been interrupted during this process.

I'd like to track down the player movement "stutter" some of us have been seeing.

 

Unfortunately, yesterday, I was unable to reproduce the problem with several maps, in places where I'd seen it before.

 

So if someone has a specific example of this, I'd like to get the following info:

 

1 - Which map?

 

2 - Where in that map? (Going from point A to point B.)

 

3 - Which game version? 32 or 64?

 

4 - Copy of your Darkmod.cfg file.

2. Near the player start. Try running along the street, roughly between the dead end on the left and the cart on the right. You should notice how game switches between smooth framerate and stutter. It looks like 30 FPS, even though the FPS counter shows 60 at all times. If you can't see it, try strafing instead of running down the street. Toggling postprocessing on and off may also help you see the difference.

Thanks for the example, but it might be a false negative. There's crap and bumps on the ground that cause player movement to stutter naturally.

 

I need an example of travel across a smooth floor or ground.

I find that it's really bad while circle strafing around a pillar while trying to keep the pillar in the middle of the screen. Really noticeable.

 

Can't reproduce that situation. Smooth as a baby's backside. Simple map: a room with a pillar in it.

 

Copy of your Darkmod.cfg file, pls?

2. Near the player start. Try running along the street, roughly between the dead end on the left and the cart on the right. You should notice how game switches between smooth framerate and stutter. It looks like 30 FPS, even though the FPS counter shows 60 at all times. If you can't see it, try strafing instead of running down the street. Toggling postprocessing on and off may also help you see the difference.

Maybe it will be easier with a video. That first section might be stuttering due to uneven ground, as you said. But the second one should be more apparent. All in all, this looks more like 25-30 fps gameplay, not 60 fps.

Before I file a bug tracker, I want to know is anyone else is seeing this issue.

 

I am ready to release Full moon fever ver 2.0, but I noticed a shed load of speakers are producing single tones (which would normally means the shader is broken). But in in 2.05 those same speakers work just fine.

 

I have changed the sound setting to stereo and EFX off and still have the issue, I am running Win7 and an Creative Xfi sound card.

As soon as I read this I looked and the first light and saw what Spoonman had done, he had set the sound shader to "s_shader" "-" (I'm guessing to try and remove the shader for that particular light entity), then I remembered that 2.06 now plays that mono-tone sound for speakers with incorrectly set shaders.

 

Its a good job I testing this under 2.06 before releasing it... :blink::D

The idea is that a mapper can set s_playDefaultSound to 1 while developing their map, to suss out any sound shaders that are missing (they'll hear the 'beep').

 

Since the default setting shipped with 2.06 will have s_playDefaultSound set to 0, no player will hear any beeps for missing shaders.

 

But I agree that the lights should be fixed.
