Change FOV

FOV has always been in the game to change via CVAR, it's also been on SVN since 2.05. (I added it)

It will be in 2.06 along with other options:

There's currently a bug in 2.05 where if you change the CVAR g_fov to anything other than the default, sometimes when you pick up an item, your FOV will switch to the default, and go back to what you set it to when you drop the object.

That's been fixed for next version.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

What is the recommended FOV? 90? The sword and the bow have weird cutting out of PC's arms-elbows beyond the intended FOV apparently. This happens when the sword is sheathed or when the bow is drawn and sheathed. I seem to have this under any FOV.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

The recommended FOV for 4:3 aspect ratios ( 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024, etc ) is 90

The recommended FOV for 16:9 ( HD ) aspect ratios ( 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080, etc ) is 75.

Some players may find FOV 80 or higher more comfortable in HD aspect ratios even if it leads to more fish-eye distortion.

Side note: Higher FOV values increase the scene geometry that needs to be rendered thus lowering performance if you are geometry bound.

There's weird graphical artifacts even at 60 FOV. I didn't notice it before when playing. Maybe it was present all along.

My resolution is 1920 x 1080 on a laptop.

I mean that I can see beyond the intended field of view where player hands end.

You cannot receive PMs. Could you please be so kind and check your mailbox if it is full (or maybe you switched off the function)?

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
