TDM on Raspberry 3+

I guess no.

It seems that Raspberry Pi today has desktop OpenGL 2.1 (which seems to be enough for TDM).

However, it uses ARM cpu, which is going to cause many issues during build (most likely solvable, but would take considerable time).

Currently TDM officially supports x86 CPUs (both 32-bit and 64-bit) with Windows or Linux OS.

Some code for PowerPC support is present also because original Doom 3 used to run on old Macs, but I'm not sure if it is working today.

There's a apk version of idtech 4 for Android (DIII4A) so it should be possible but i never saw its source code so don't know how hard it would be to make it work for TDM.

maybe possible with d3 and a very old version of tdm.

read this topic for some pointers, d3 on the pi:

(check also a video in the spoiler)

or try steam link on your pi.

You would need to have to be some serious Linux programming experience to build for ARM or especially Android.

@stgatilov and others have done a lot of work around the vanilla x86 assembler code but it must still be incompatible in many ways.

Porting to Android is much harder obviously but for ARM-Linux it might be relatively straightforward.

The big IF is 3D performance of the ARM chips. I would NOT expect a 1W chip to deliver anything close to what you're used to on desktop.

I have covered all the x86-specific trash in proper ifdefs (see 4550).
Even managed to cross-compile TDM for 64-bit ARM (stopped at linking phase).

Note however that:

  1. Recent trunk requires OpenGL 3.3. Even Raspberry Pi 4 does not provide it.
  2. In order to link TDM, you have to build all third-party libs for your platform via conan --- that could be hard.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
