New Ram Arrives Today.

Finally!! I can get back into the swing of things. Ever since a stick of my ram died, running windows server 2003 on 256 megs of ram has sucked. Can't really do much of anything. Today though, my two 512 meg sticks arrive and I'll finally be in the 1 gig club. Ahhh, the simple pleasures.

I've 1500 and it still isn't enough at times. Makes me wonder how you used to be content with 32 on my first computer when I didn't know any better.

I thouhgt now that we have 64 bit processors we 'd be seeing MBs that can hold 10-20 -30 + gigs of ram. I thought that was the main point of 64 bit processors, that they could adress a ridiculous amount of RAM.

I still have 512Mb only, but will probably upgrade sometime within a year, as next-gen games start appearing a bit more. I can still run stuff well, but it's loading times that suffer most.

I was pretty happy with my 512. Everything seemed to run just fine. I figured that I might as well spring for two new sticks of 512, rather than a single 256. I can start saving for a new Vid Card next.

I'm planning to pop another gig in my machine in a few weeks, to max out my mobo at 2GB... So far the 64 bit mobos I have seen only take up to 4GB... not exactly an amazing increase, but I'm sure 4GB would be quite expensive enough and fairly superfluous for most things at the moment (though I do a few things that would fill it up fast enough)... Once you go to a gig you'll wonder how you managed with less before... Have fun :)

Why on earth do you run windows server 2003 on your computer?

:) It's configured as a desktop of course but to answer your question, it's the best OS Microsoft has put out to date. It boots faster than XP, and is more stable. I don't know how it's possible but server 2003 ran faster on my wifes 600 mhz celeron than XP did. I also used XP pro for well over a year but after using Server 2003, I would never go back. Though it's a different branch of the NT line than XP, it still runs everything perfectly. I have all the Thief games, Doom 3 and other games all running flawlessly. Microsofts next version of windows was even built off of 2003 due to its stability.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
