Want A Laugh? - Download Ds2

I downloaded it just to see how utterly despicable and putrid it would be, in the way one might stop to look at a traffic accident, and wasn't dissapointed.

If there was a scale for fantasy RPGs, from 1-100 with Baldur's Gate at 100, Dungeon Siege would be at 1.

It's literally just a line drawn on a map which you have to travel along killing anything that moves along the way. There is no skill, strategy or thought involved whatsoever, just click on an enemy and wait till your character kills it, and then move on to the next one. You can't even play on expert till you've played the entire game through twice - I mean what the fuck is up with that - you're forced to play the whole game through on easy, then you can play on medium, and then after playing it a second time, you're finally allowed to play it on expert!

I guess this is the only way they could tempt anyone to play ths festering pile of crap through more than once.

It looks like shit as well. Huge clunky unnecessary interface, one of those stupid half and half engines, which have a fixed camera but a 3d world, but everything is extremely low poly, like a console game from the late 90's. Either make a game fully 3d with freedom of movement or make it 2d. I thought the beautifully painted and prerendered graphics in Baldur's Gate looked much better than this game.

I mean, I just can't understand what type of person enjoys a game like this.

You just can't play this after having played the likes of Baldur's Gate, and think it anything other than a pathetic joke.

Ah, to bad! I hoped that they would make it better this time. I stopped playing DS1 half way through because it just came boring. The strange thing is that the gamemag said this is now much better and not so linear. That shows how much you can really rely on "independent" mags. Not that I'm really surprised about it.

THe weird thing about this is that if you read the Gamespot review, the guy is constantly talking it down the whole time and saying how crap or mediocre it is, yet at the same time he still gives it 7.9. THe actual review he gave it reads more like a 6.0.

This is the problem with game making today -

If you play Baldur's Gate you can clearly see the craftsmanship in every part of it, right down to the voice acting, which is superb for even the extra little characters with ony one line.

You can tell that the people who made it loved making games, and took pride in what they did.

Today, people just make games as a career, and don't give a fuck what it turns out like, as long as it sells a few copies, and makes them a few bucks.

That's not really different from Gamestar. If often found text where they say what a crap this game is and how bad and blabla but the rating ist still between 80 and 90 depending on the brand. I also wrote them letters and asked about this inconsistency, but I never ogt an answer. Not that I really expected one.

I heard that on Dungeon Seige, you could set your character settings to auto target and auto attack or something, then leave the game and it will play itself.

Once you feel such automation is nessecary, you have to then ask yourself what is really worth playing in the game.

I've played the original Dungeon Seige. I enjoyed Diablo 2 more. Diablo is Diablo, but it does what it does well. Dungeon Seige took a fairly crap style of game and made a crap version of it.

Once you get used to it DS1 is becoming boring soon. In the beginning I always thought maybe it will get more interesting later. That is also the reason why I thought that I will download DS2 before I buy it. Because if it is the same crap only more of it, then I certainly wont waste my money it. At least this saves me now from even downloading. :)

4 cds of pure crap. The people who made it ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I'd rather beg in the streets that earn my dirty money for making games lik that.

All these fucking college kids on their fucking career curve who don't give a shit, and will pander to whatever the highest bidding publisher wants them to make.

They'll soon populate the entire games indutry.

I rather liked Dungeon Siege II, it's a typical Diablo - people like you are bound to hate it, but it is just a defferent style of a game. For me it's good-looking, well-paced. The only problem is the constant bug which throws me back to Windows, saying "gathering exception data".

Doubt that. FPS is still winning, and Oblivion is the only RPG worth to look at.

I played Dungeon Siege and in the beginning I liked it. But then it got boring because it was always the same and totally linear. From what I have heard DS2 is not so much better, so I didn't bother buying it. I considered downloading it and take a look, but from the things that I heard about it, it's not really worth IMO.

I'm curious ar Fable though. I know it seems to be easy, but maybe it's ok for me kids. So I will take a look at it and see. And if the atmosphere is good, then maybe it's still worth it, even though it may be short.

Yes. I hope that Oblivion is coming out soon. It is scheduled for end of 2005, isn't it? So I hope they don't need to shift the date again. Well, depends on the state. If it is to buggy I prefer a dateshift more than a buggy version. I still remember buying Arx Fatalis to hasty and I couldn't play it. :( After waiting several months for the third or fourth patch and my problem was still not fixed I never tried it again. Waste of money...

Well, the games I am waiting for at the moment are - F. E. A. R. and Quake IV(why not heXen III) on 18 October, pretty soon, then HoMaM V somewhere in winter, than there is Dark Messiah in summer, Oblivion and Gothic III somewhere, Age of Empires III, but I didn't like the demo much. Well, Im quite delighted - a lot of games to wait for, in addition to the heXen Edge of Chaos mod and yours, of course.

I wonder if H EoC will be shorter than Half-Life 2 - they made 80% already, that worries me, in fact, no information but 9 screens and a bad movie with one sceleton in it - that is quite distressing. I tried to talk to them on mIRC, but they just don't say anything, the only thing I managed to pull out of them is that the wraithwerge weapon from heXen beyond Heretic will be connected to the storyline, and the character who carries it is a new class, along with Half-Life 2 gravity gun disguesed as telekinesis...

Speaking of Fable - I like the game, it maybe somewhat childish, but not pokemon, just try to adjust to it, and ignore the beginning.

I actually enjoyed Diablo 2 - mainly because I played co-op with my two brothers and we had really different characters working together fighting alongside each other.

For what it is (bash, get more money and weapons , bash some more) its fun.

DS is more of a chore than fun.

And Neverwinter Nights is not much better - its the same thing with a storyline slapped on.

Setting up your own game with someone playing Dungeon Master would be awesome, but as a single player or co-op game playing the original missions - its diablo with a story line. Bleh.

At least Diablo - All of the character classes are very very well balanced. NWN is SHIT becaues all the magic characters are the best, and no other class can keep up with them. Its heavily magic biased, and the community expansion pack makes it even more so. That game seems to have a huge "magic is da coolest" nerd following.

I enjoyed Diablo 2, too. Simple gameplay, as you note ~ yet addictive as hell. Very satisfying sound effects, too. I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied the first time I killed something (one of those spike-tailed armadillo things). That's precisely the moment I knew I would probably enjoy that game :)

As for Age of Empires 3, I'm also looking forward to that. But was let down by the demo, as well. A couple things to note, though -- is that they've fixed nearly a thousand or more bugs since that demo, and they've made a smaller UI (user interface). I'm eager to see the new UI, since the old one was crap (took up a third of your screen). I have a feeling they trimmed out some sounds and stuff from the demo to keep it a relatively small file size. I'm hoping anyways. I hated how clicking a stable sounded the same as clicking a Town Center, etc. I think (hope) this will be addressed in the final game.

I liked NWN a lot, single player in fact, what connection it has to Diablo? It's turn-based and has a completely different experience system! And it's not composed of empty areas. What I hate about Diablo II, is those big fields of nothing. DS and NWN are not like that. Hellfire was the best. And those stupid "save and exit".

Well, I think I won't buy AoE III after that demo. I think the Colonial Ages are a big problem with me. All those trading posts, home cities... And, MAPS. The map I liked best in AoE II was Black Forest. I like having closed up areas. And AoE III levels were wide and open, fortunately, the campaign wasn't, but still, forest is no longer an obstackle. Another thing is those stupid sounds. WHen the home city is ready, of someone attacks. The unit control - where are the formations and attitude? Resourses - where is stone? ANd why on Earth is the game 3D and so ugly... Coming back to AoE II, giant Black Forest map, 5 enemies, hardest...

You obviously have no taste whatsoever hexen. Anyone who enjoyed both NWN singleplayer and DS1&2 is asthetically illiterate, and you are personally responsible for these games being made in the first place, because if people like you didn't buy them, they wouldn't make them any more.

When the rest of us talk about the generic gamer, and the industry being swamped with dumbed down games being made for them, you're exactly the sort of person we're referring to.

I would really prefer if you could hold back your opinion a bit and be more civilised. Fact is, that it IS opinion anyway, until you can prove it otherwise. And wether somebody enjoys a game doesn't mean he is an idiot. I don't know how often I told you that other people may have different preferences and you should accept this for a fact. Insulting doesn't change this. And when it comes to personal taste, there is no right or wrong, because it is SUBJECTIVE by nature.

Who said I bought them? I downloaded them. I don't buy stuff like that. THey are not worth it. I understand oDDity, though. So many people cry heXen is complicated, so because of them, there are no more heXen's.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.
