3 Quick Questions

I just wanted to ask 3 quick questions about the Dark Mod before I get validated, sorry ahead of time for being so impatient.

1. Whenever I load up the mod, I get what looks like a shading error? Is this an installation problem, or just normal?

Here's a snapshot:

2. What units does the mod scale brushes and such, meters or feet?

3. I used to be a Dromeder and was working on a replica of my house with appropriate dimensions and stuff, until I upgraded my graphics card to where Dromed would no longer work. Is there a way to type in specific room dimensions and not just grid snapped brushes?

Dark Radiant will normally give you some shading errors, but where did you download the mod? Only Dark Radiant is available to the public, the mod requires that you sign up as a beta mapper for access.

I think mmax is slightly confused. :)

DarkRadiant is not the mod. It's just our customised level editor. The mod itself is not public yet.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

Yeah I'm sure he just means Dark Radiant.

I haven't seen a place to put in numbers for brush dimensions, but it may be there and I just haven't seen it. If it's not, it would be a nice feature to request.

You mean to enter the brush dimensions by hand? This could be hard to do as brushes are sometimes complex-shaped. You can, however, choose "Show Size Info" somewhere in the view menu or in the preferences to display the current brush dimensions. This in combination with the grid should usually do the trick.

Hm, I'm not sure if that is easily possible. isn't there an arbitrary number of possibilities how the brush should be stretched? Which face would be dragged in which direction? Or do you mean that it's stretched proportionally?

edit: Thinking about this, I believe it would be necessary to compute the winding vertices, apply the requested scaling to them, and then recalculate the face planes. Could be a bit complicated though.

The only realistic possibility I can see is a "Create cuboid brush with the following dimensions" option, but that wouldn't be much easier than just creating a default brush and dragging it to the desired size using the dimensions display.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
