I do not appreciate child-like incessant questions. The generally accepted moral code dictates that some things should be discovered on your own.

On a side note, I remembered playing Right up there on the Mountains, it was very good. Especially given that I was familiar with the Evil Dead series.

The shame of your actions is absolute. Nothing but hara-kiri will save your honour now. ;)

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

lots of people like deceptive perceptions, but I don't really understand why. the gameplay was pretty lousy and it was more of a cheesy horror movie than a good thief level. If all you want is a level to scare the crap out of you, just play the Cradle again, or if u haven't already, go buy T3.

Milestones approaching:

Recital: 3-24-12

ToughMudder: 4-15-12

Release first FM: ?-?-20??

Yes, TDS was truly a horror to behold. I found the Cradle scary for about fifteen minutes myself, then immensely boring. The zombie/inmates wandered around their tracks like old men shuffling around a running track, I ran around on my list of errands, and the only thing I really remembered of the whole thing was my headache from the blinking lights.

If you haven't bought it but feel compelled to play T3, wait till its real, real cheap. If I hadn't already tossed it I would mail you my copy for free.

I completely agree with Maximius about The Cradle... I didn't find it the least bit scary. Admittedly, when I first started playing the level I was worried about what they were going to spring on me, and I found the door in the attic kind of scary, but once I encountered the puppets I wasn't all that scared anymore. In particular I found the stuff about "the cradle must have remembered you" to be really sappy.

However, I did find RotC to be scary, but that was probably because I had thought haunts were invincible when I first played it, so I more or less tried to ghost it. (pun intended)

Yeah, I was petrified every time I could hear a haunt coming from another room in RtoC. I remember very distinctly standing just inside from the back exit as haunts and zombies casually went in and out the door, frozen for what felt like hours, waiting for an opportunity just to get out of the door.

Now I know just to give a haunt a whack in the back of the head with my sword.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I thought the Cradle was excellent. Definitely the best part of TDS.

I never actually managed to finish RtoC. Too many zombies. :(

Different strokes for different folks as they say.

Its like the Blair Witch Project. Tons of people said it was fantastic and scared the shit out of them.

I thought it sucked. My gf at the time loved it and made me go see it. Worst movie I ever went to the movies to see.

What is RtoC ?

I haven't lost my mind. It's backed up on disk!

Oops bad sectors damn floppy's!

Blueroom trickery Schatten? What do you mean, trying to remember Inverted Manse, can't think what you mean.

I find with a lot of FMs there are annoying puzzles and stuff, whereas I prefer great architecture and good old fashioned thieving. Not arsing about with mystic puzzles or running around a house waiting for the next scripted event to happen like it's a bloody SCUMM game.

So I don't get on with a lot of top FMs, or if I do I get bored once I've done it, and just leave the puzzle and tick it off my list.

Blue room trickery is a Dromed mapping term where you set up all sorts of Rube-Goldberg-esque machinery in a room the player can't reach, to handle more complicated logic than simple stim/response would allow.

The vault with the missle-launcher struck me as blue-room trickery.

Hmm can't remember it even though I completed it. But I completed it on... thief?

You're supposed to complete it on every difficulty setting. The objectives, AIs, equipment, accessible areas, and even starting point change significantly depending on the difficulty. It's like three FMs in one.

I liked "Ominous Bequest" for logic, and challenge. I felt that overall it a very strong and long mission, and if I had to pick only one T2 add on mission, it would be that one. It's graphics were not groundbreaking, but I thought it's scripting was exceptional in the same way that Looking Glass would have approved of.

There was one mission in T2X, that was quite creepy. I remember, it conjured the same feelings of angst that was present when I played "The Return to the Cathedral" for the first time. When I was in both missions, I felt I just didn't want to be there. I believe it was "Down Among Dead Men," or "The Cure."

I thought that TDS's Cradle was scary, but it worked though shock than angst.

Which one was Ominous Bequest? A mansion with a magic basement? That one?

I really liked Lord Edmunds (?) which was a Christmas mission. I never completed it, it had a puzzle I couldn't be arsed with, but I explored everything and stealthed it past all the AI (those two elements are why I play Thief FMs pretty much, see the sights.).

I was just an amazing looking mission, loads of detail, snow, hazey lamps, and they got the old TII engine to come up with some lovely lighting with mixed warm colours.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
