I've just seen the teaser for the first time.

Wow.

Nicely done guys. The ingame (in-engine?) stuff looks nice. Very, very nice. Keep it up. This is going to be the year of the FM it seems.

NewHorizon, TYROT, I finally downloaded and watched the trailer. Very cool. I like the feel. It left me feeling all excited. I can see with more time and more stuff to work with, you could make something that will really blow people away.

I love the Hell effect at the end to say "Made with Doom 3"... so cool :) And kinda freaky, cause it reminds you of how Doom 3 felt all of a sudden...

What I want to know is, how did you get that "light beam" effect on the edges of text? Where it looks like light is shooting out from behind the text. Like the Deadly Shadows logo. I really want to know. What software is that?

On a similar note, I REALLY REALLY want to know what software those guys used to make the T1, T2 and T3 cutsceans, where its 2D artwork, but it bends and twists and morphs any way you want it, to make it look like 3D. Especially during the T1 or T2 intro (can't remember which) where the skin splits open to reveal an eye. They morph the artwork there in a very organic way. How is it done??

dear Domarius

When i first watched THIEF the Dark Project intro one thing exploded in my eyes..immediately ..THE COMBINATION of different forms..

There are 3d renderings, 2d concept art, 2d animation and ACTUAL video footage. And all of them combined together almost invisible technic... That s why it was my favorite one..of ALL

I wrote a long description how i made the teaser it s here..

http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic...t=7994&start=20

I hope link is good..

Any further question will be answered gladly :)

Ah yes...Those effects can be done both 2d and 3d..They are combining all art forms in perfect unity...So one frame is 3d and the other one 2d with 3d art on it.. It s hard to write you know...But after effects+photoshop+3d software ...is your answer. They used 3d max so it was 3d max...

Let say victoria s morph is a lovely unity of 3d + 2d additional effects.. That s the beauty of thief.. I mean you know how much thief FAN loved the game just for those Cutscenes...first

BEST

It's "powered by Doom 3" but anyway - Thanks! That was my script. :) Nice to see it is appreciated. One of the small things that I contributed. And I really had to force it on TYROT. :)

That's pretty easy to do. I have seen such tricks in the demo coder scene long before T1 used that. It is just used like a texture.

They morph the artwork there in a very organic way.  How is it done??

Either with a 3D app, or a simple algorithm.

Definitely...... I don't think we've said it enough...

EXCELLENT job on the trailer. It just grabs you and forces you to pay attention wholeheartedly. Nice inspiration for us sound guys as well. ;)

Great job..... Thanks for putting a very professional face out for the rest of the world to see.

Heyas! Just watched the trailer and loved it, it realy captures the feel of the Thief games well right down to the cool Industrial soundtrack. :D

Just a question about the soundtrack from the trailer, is it an exsisting song or one that devs made? Also is there any chance of having the soundtrack as a seperate download?

I realy like the song, been watching the trailer over and over just for the song. :P

Once again good work with the trailer and good luck with the mod.

In my opinion, your policy of not deleting posts is too lenient. Do you see what kind of drivel it has lead to here? Instead of a civil discussion about a nice Christmas present, you have a bunch of tastless complaining. Things will become much more pleasant if you show zero tolerance for trolls and spammers. Also, zero tolerance for public arguing against moderator decisions, such as deleting a post. TTLG was a mess when it first started. Now it is much better owing to improved moderating.

My suggestion is: don't plead with trolls to behave in public. Ignore them. After one or two private e-mail discussions, ban them. Don't waste time and create more conflict by justifying your decisions. Ask people use e-mail or PM to complain about moderator policy.

I really liked the Christmas video, although I share the view that it would have been better to see more examples of current work. I hope you can do that sometime soon.

As for the Dark Mod, I am really excited about it. You people have shown some great talent. I am confident that Dark Mod will replace T3Ed when it comes out. Keep up the good work.

Argh! Complaining! Where are the forum fascists when we need them? Ban him!

No worries. We have adopted a zero tolerance standard after a particularly abusive poster. All of those posts are not deleted now but rather locked and moved to "The Compost Post" section. There they can be viewed in all their glory.

Thanks, New Horizon. :)

I did not realize that. The forum policy/ rules are not easy to find... Sorry about the OT.

That was a great video! Real talent in assembling the elements and the sound. The music resembled some of Nine Inch Nail's work on Quake. Could this be NIN, or is it my imagination?

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
