Thief's Den bugs to report

I signed up for the bug reporting, but it's dark radiant only so I'll post it here.

I upgraded my comp, new mobo, q6600 cpu, 8600gt, 4 gig ram, win xp home sp2,

So I reinstall Doom 3 and patch it and install Thief's den and when I go into video options, I move over gamma and it looks like a menu from doom3 apears showing the numbers and different shades of gray.

The seond is a loading menu right before the thief's den splash screen, looks like another doom 3 menu, looks whitish gray and looks out of place with the TDM atmosphere. It appears too fast now for me to read it.

The Third, maybe you've all noticed this before, but I was playing thiefs den on high graphics, and x16 AA, and was admiring the beauty of it all. And I went to the first door with the wood above you can climb up onto, and I pressed the mantle key, without jumping just to see what would happen, and I mantle up the stair, so I dipped down real down and climbed the stair.

Yeah, hope I've found something new.

In regards to the second bug you reported, I've had a similar thing happen when TDM loads. When it loads and is on the loading view, type in the map you want really fast. So, have TDM open to console on startup, start tdm, immediately type map <MAPNAME> hit enter, you will see a Doom3 box for about a second. I see no issue with this though because most people wont be using console and it wont ruin the atmosphere because it's on startup if you mess around with it.

The Doom 3 box showing up is known. It hasn't been migrated yet (the box says #str7191 and "Please Wait"), I think it only happens when you load a map quickly after Doom 3 came up. One guy at the doom3world forums also reported this, I think he also mentioned where to fix it (message.gui, IIRC).

I don't know what's planned with the gamma picture, maybe this will be replaced altogether by something else.

The mantling bug is also a known one, sometimes you get drawn down quite a bit for mantling.

As for the bugtracker: I enabled your account, you're enlisted in the DarkRadiant project now. The Dark Mod's section of the bugtracker is not available for the public yet.

The mantling 'bug' is not really a bug but really my map design flaw. One can mantle very low objects intentionally. This is so you can scramble over debris without getting stuck. No matter how rough the terrain you can usually scramble out with a mixture of mantle and jump. But it does mean you can also mantle a step like those steps. That's no problem if that's what the player wants to do. It won't happen (I believe) if the player is running and jumping up a series of steps but only if the player intentionally wants to mantle.

OK, so that's what is (I believe) intended in Dark Mod. As for the Thief's Den map, I didn't notice that flaw until the map was advanced enough I was reluctant to rebuild that part (and it's hard to see how - I wanted to be able to mantle onto the wooden canopy over the door and I also needed the stone steps to handle the sloping alley floor.)

It could probably be solved by spacing out the top step further but hey ho, maybe it'll get changed one day if an update is ever done for other improvements. I usually mantle at the right corner of that wooden canopy and that gives you room. It usually also helps to look at the edge you want to mantle though in this situation I don't think it helped.

As Fidcal says, the low-mantling isn't really a bug IMO; it's occasionally nice to be able to mantle small bits of debris so you can get over them without making as much of a racket. What is a bug is that you don't stop mantling when you release the key, so sometimes you'll accidentally get sucked into mantling a step and then effectively get frozen in place with no movement control for a few seconds. We'd like to fix that at some point.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

I didn't do it through console, I just went into doom 3, went to mods and changed it.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
