Is it possible to Bar a door?

I was wondering, if it is possible to lock a door by having a bar on one side of it, so you sneak in through the window, remove the bar and now its unlocked.

Yep, that works :) You need to make the bar a movable, I am not sure, but Thief's Den should have a plank you can use.

Just doing it physically with a bar literally blocking the door is something that would be cool, but I think I remember the physics going crazy over the bar being pushed, or something.

Surely you could also do it with a simple script, so that if the bar is frobbed you actually take it into inventory, or it lifts up on it's own or something, and the door gets a signal to be unlocked now.

The concept has been tested in a map before and works fine. You have to build some 'hooks' to hold the board in place, and the board has to be a movable, but that's it.

:D

Yup, basically any logical weighted item can block a door. Just one example of physics phun.

On that thought, would a chair under the doorhandle block the door too, without stoppers on the floor? I guess not, but it'd surely work with a script.

Man this cries for a new ingame feature: Make the thief capable of blocking a door with chairs/tables/cupboards, which of course should create suspicion, when enemies discover it. Just Like in Call of Cthulhu... Hehe, I am just dreaming again. Nevermind! :)

It will work if the friction of the chair on the floor is high enough, and if the chair top can physically wedge against the handle. I'm not sure if the default friction settings on chairs is right for this.

I barred my door!

One thing with it though, the door opens a little bit inside, even if I squeeze the bar inbetween the hooks and the door it still goes opens a little bit.

I bet theres a script for that though

Well, the bar will have to be flush with the door if you want the door not to move at all.

I can already see the "Big Lebowski" comedy angle here. ^_^

I think it will be so much fun playing with physics in TDM ... Dromed locks us into such a blocky static world where practically everything has to be elaborately wired up like some medieval metaphysics.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

So I'm having a door issue as well. I fabricated a door with a brush, but when I checked it in-map, it swivels from the center, instead of being hinged from one of the edges. Is there a way to correct that?

You need to move the "origin" of the door:

I thought about making a note on the receptionists desk about contacting the door salesman about his new "superior swivel doors" and how they needed to be replaced with normal ones....But I fixed them.

 It would make a good joke in a map, perhaps to explain away a problem the mapper encountered (and overcame hopefully) during construction, set off in some secret location:

My Dearest Vivian,

I was consumed by my passions last night and could not sleep a wink. I came to see you, but you still haven't had your apartment door fixed. For some reason, it rotates as if the origin is in the center, and as a result, I can only find myself walking in circles for hours, unsure of what to do.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
