No Worldspawn Found (problem)

I've got a problem with my map (again). Luckily I've saved a pretty recent copy, but I had done some work that I'd rather not redo, and I'd like to understand this problem so I can possibly avoid it in the future (and possibly help others who might have/have had the same problem).

 

The problem is everything in my map has dissapeared. It happened after I was having a little problem where whenever I tried to select a brush, it selected every worldspawn in the entire map. I thought I'd had the same problem before, so I de-selected everything and closed DR, re-opened and it did the same thing. Deleted files in applicationdata/darkradiant and restarted editor, now nothing shows up. Uninstalled editor and reinstalled, same problem.

 

In the console (and log) it says:

C:/games/Doom 3/darkmod_test/maps/maps/church.map

559 patches

497 entities

MapPositionManager: Could not locate worldspawn entity.

 

Before I remembered to fix my fs_game link in the preferences it said the same thing, except it said 0 brushes 0 patches etc. It was also instant loading, like it had nothing to load, but now it loads like usual with the progress bar etc. Doom3 editor always did that, but also shows nothing. The previous save of my map (made when I was a little drunk but sober enough to know that I should make a separate save encase I screwed everything up) loads fine.

 

The map is too big to upload here, but both Doom3 editor and DR fail to load it (while registering the brushes and entities as existing). I can redo what I've done it might be that there is a way to fix this or avoid it. I'll create a bug report if this is not another one of my phantom problems that has never happened to anyone else ever.

Can you zip the map and upload it somewhere for me? I can't possibly say what happened, but can only guess. I somehow assume that your worldspawn entity got renamed or has the wrong classname or has been removed at all (which I'm curious myself how this could be accomplished).

 

Any reliable steps to reproduce that problem?

Did you check your autosave?

Arg, I feel really stupid. The map isn't totally gone, but there is a bug there. When I deleted all the user files for DR, it moves the camera to the origin of the map, and for some reason I put my map off to the side so I zoomed out pretty far and still couldn't see anything. Also, it resets the view dist setting, so in camera view all I see is gray.

 

So I guess the real bug is this: I create a atdm:mover_door entity from a brush, and as soon as I do that, any time I select a worldspawn, it selects every worldspawn. I went back to my previous save and was able to reproduce it, so I'll create a bug report and upload the file.

I realize now that this does not happen if one does the "create entity" option on right click. Hopefully I'm not just doing it flat wrong, but its probably better to understand what is happening anyways, as I can see it happening again. I added a note because there was a little detail on how to re-create the problem that I'd not added to the main report.

 

Also, I swear I set it to "minor" priority, but it says normal. It is not pressing, but is worth understanding. It would probably be good to know how to recover from this, since it could conceivably ruin a map.

I've had this happen to me. Before I became beta mapper,

You need to change the classname back to "worldspawn", methinks.

 

I think I tried that before, and it was still messed up. When I get back from school, I'll look through my old maps and see whats what.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?       I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
