Idea: Make good use of prefabs

In addition to the models you could make use of prefabs. That would save much time and it will be easier to create own missions in higher quality.

A good example is the Amisfield Tower made by Komag: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=8255

That would make a wonderfull prefab. Most people won't spend weeks for a building you may see only a few seconds in game, walking by or in the background. But if they are there as prefabs you just need to load it to your map, change a few textures rotate and scale it, remove or add a few brushes if u need to and it's ready. A wonderfull building which adds great atmosphere finished in a few minutes. You could do the same with candels with already added light entity, finished fireplaces, columns or evelators. The advantage of these prefabs is also that you can change them very easy to avoid that players think "I know exactly that from the last map, it's boring."

What do you think about it?

We already have plans to ship prefabs with TDM, it is just that so much is todo, we have had not had time to create that many prefabs, and we also forgot to put any into Thief's Den :)

If you create something that can be used a a prefab (a vaulted ceiling, a complictaed door etc,) feel free to post it and we can include it into our repository and later ship it with the mod.

(Maybe there also needs a prefab-sharing website, but it probably already exists)

Do you mean like this?

Yes,exactly. I can do the code, if you promise to do the artwork (heh, can I hire you to revamp my photo gallery? :D

Yeah I've already done some myself.

Things like treasure chests with lids and lock levers and a key.

And dining tables with chairs, plates and silverware set. Authors can place one, then selecet a chair and tip it over or whatever to mix it up.

Dark is the sway that mows like a harvest

That was no big deal. I just took an image of a letter with a feather removed the old logo put the DarkRadiant one in. Than a few lines here and there and some text :D.

But I do have some graphics editing experience for sure.

So, I can do the artwork if you want.

Well, it looks lightyears better than what I could produce in a week. Me coder, you artist! :D

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
