Some Dark Radiant Problems

Hello,

At first, i want to say that th I read the Faq as much as possible, but my english knowledge are not the very best;)

So I am working currently with the dark mod editor, and it is really good, i like it very much, because the normal editor including is not so good i think,

but now to my questions, I hope someone can answer it to me

I have problems to see Enities especially model objects in the editor, and that is very bad, because if you don`t see the model you placing in the map you can`t place it wright, or which angle it is, or if it is standing in the air, with the GtK radiant or in the d3 editor i can see the models, but in the Dark mod editor i didn`t see it, i don`t know why, i didn`t see it in the grid or even when i render it? Someone can help me with that please? :)

And than i have another question, can i save my working windows in the editor, i mean the grid constellation, how it is placed, because every time i start my computer new and start the dark radiant the placement (windows) are not standing on the same place as before, or the aren`t anywhere, so some one can help me with that?

It would be really nice if someone could help me: ) Thanks !

First I need some more information: which version of DarkRadiant are you using and which resources are you working with (only D3, Thief's Den or some other D3 mod)?

When you open up the "Create Model..." dialog, what do you see there? Are the models listed at all? What does the console say when it tries to load the model?

Which window layout are you using? Floating window layout or some split view? The window settings are saved to your personal user.xml in the "Documents and Settings" folder, usually. It could be possible that a crash at shutdown could prevent DarkRadiant from saving its information to the file.

Hello, thanks for helping, im using the 0.9.7 Dark Radiant Version, im working only with Doom3 no mod or something

When i create a model in the console i can read "addModel", nothing more.

But I also noticed that i can`t see animated lights in the editor, in the game i can see the flare of the light, but in the editor i only see the light. I didn`t work very much with it, just some hours, also i didn`t try out sounds or particular effects, but i thinks they wouldnt also not work in the editor.

The problem with the grid layout works now i think, maybe i have some editor bugs and then the editor crashs down, then i must always configurate my template/ layout new, but with normal closing it works.

I just have experience with the normal d3 editor, the dark radiant is something new for me, but the working surface is much better than the normal d3 editor i think;

I also have some other (beginner) questions

I can`t find the particle editor in the dark radiant, is there something included?

And i also have problems with the standard D3 textures, in the texture inspector most of the textures are just blue with black squares, and i can read "shader not found", with the models and enities it is the same, did i something with the configuration of the editor wrong maybe?

thanks for helping me!

Does this not sound similar to the problem that was discussed earlier about default doom3 models not showing up in DR? I recall the same problem when I was working with stock doom 3, the models and entities all show up in lists but not in the renderer.

Also, I would suggest setting up Theif's Den and using it to run your maps. It is a good gateway into The Dark Mod and will give you a taste of what materials you will have access to in the long run.

You can find a lot of information on how to install it from the wiki.

Hope this helps!

Yes, as BEAR said, we discussed this issue previously and it is fixed in the most recent snapshot builds. You can download a snapshot here: http://darkradiant.sourceforge.net/snapshot.php

No, there's no particle editor in DarkRadiant yet. It's listed on our long-term roadmap though.

Many D3 stock shaders are broken, from what I've heard (there's a "D3 materials fixed" package somewhere out there, if I recall correctly). Another possibility would be that the texture is using more sophisticated shader stages and DarkRadiant can't generate a preview for them. One would need to check this case-by-case.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
