  1. Decided to light up my mission and take an eagle eyes view...Gotta finish this mission, it would be sad to let all this go to waste eh?

  2. The first update for The Painter's Wife, v1.1, is now out! Taking on board feedback posted by players as well as receiving several additional rounds of betatesting, tons of things have changed. This includes gameplay tweaks, new routes and locations, areas rebuilt for improved performance, scripting fixes, improvements to the map, a new security system for Marlow as well as myriad fixes for mapping issues like nonsolid objects. A full changelog has been added to the first post in this thread. Special thanks go to Bikerdude for his perseverance in getting much of this done, and Mike_A, Cardia, Garrett(Monolyth-42), Kingsal and Amadeus for giving this mission further extensive testing. As before, there's also a slimmed down version of v1.1 that can be manually downloaded from the original post in this thread. Use this if you’re unable to run thedarkmodx64.exe, TDM’s 64-bit client, for playing this mission.

  3. Nevermind, I bumped the version. Also verified that the new version boots properly on SVN. Thanks!

  4. No, you should not. It won't change anything. And versions like this will happen anyway. The internal version in FM database must be bumped to 6.

  5. So, should I update the text files and call the current release version 6? That might be easiest to solve issues with updates.

  6. Blame that on me for naming the previous release "4.4" instead of "5". As such, I should have released the current one as version "6". Live and learn...

  7. Ah yes: Copying alsoft.ini to an alsoft.conf makes the changes there matter. I've been playing around with some of the settings now. So if I use anything other than "drivers = alsa" I get no sound. ALSA seems to be the only one it will work with, or the others need to be further set up. Preliminary testing shows some great news: I may have found the culprit! The issue appears to go away once I set "period_size = 64". Going at the other end, "period_size = 8192" also doesn't seem to do it oddly, but that causes a huge delay for all sounds. The issue is when I set it to a middle value like "period_size = 1024" to "period_size = 4096", that's what seems to cause it almost constantly... the distortions differ slightly based on this value. I can even add other improvements like "frequency = 48000" and it works! I'll update if I still encounter it with these changes too. In the meantime please consider if based on this results, it might be a good idea to change the default value of period_size to something lower, seeing how this helps solve the problem. Any reason why it can't be 64 by default? The problem only seems to occur from 512 (very rare and brief then) and up (almost always starting from 1024), even a 256 should be safe if a slightly higher default is needed for other reasons.

  8. When I checked this FM in the database before this update got released, it said "version 5". When I now check it in the database, it still says "version 5". Consequently, when I check the in-game downloader, it does not offer me the update because it thinks that my current version is the most recent one (since it has same version), which is clearly wrong. Most of the people won't download the update if we don't bump the internal version. @nbohr1more?

  9. @UnrealOne on behalf of everyone involved, I'm glad to hear this! I really think this is the absolute limit for a single mission, as it's just a few dozen more objects away from starting to randomly crash, and the whole map is already highly compressed in this regard. Regarding your question, that's a typo in the objective description, the gate in question is actually in the southwest corner of the map at street level. It's one of the many things which have been fixed in v1.1 (which has been perpetually a few final tweaks away from release for a little while now).

  10. Repacked Night To Remember. I simply commented out the transformations. Now the trees are huge if you teleport there. Also, I played the mission myself, and did not see neither the trees nor the sky, so I guess these trees are some random trash left from early experiments. Uploaded the new version to mirrors, internal version bumped to 3.

  11. Thanks for playing @jdtecGlad to hear you liked it. As far as that objective goes, you should definitely be able to go back and finish the deed @Xolvix So, Dragofer and Biker have been hard at work making a sizeable update for this mission and if all goes well it should be out this weekend. This update comes with a boatload of bug fixes and quality of life improvements so you might want to hold off until the weekend.

  13. Maybe you've already tried to load the slimmed down version of the mission (in the sense of a large secret area), which can be manually downloaded from here?

  14. Glad to hear that - for using the Mysterious Stone, look around and for the "cathedral" and any other things you might have missed, you might want to look at Lzocast's walkthrough/compilation of points of interest.

  15. Literally everybody believes that their religion is "beneficial", that's why they believe in it. The people behind the Spanish Inquisition thought they were improving society by eradicating non-believers who would bring about God's punishment. Destroying the economy, massively increasing the cost of living, inviting the government to manage every aspect of our lives (such as with enforced veganism), brainwashing children to believe they are literally going to die of climate change before they reach their twenties, just so we can show how much we care about polar bears while the developing world continues to spew as much CO2 as they like... isn't particularly beneficial in my book, but YMMV.
