Today I am happy to announce the release of my first FM for The Dark Mod. After 6 years of using this lovely game creation engine, I'm finally able to contribute my own project for it! It took roughly two weeks of non-stop work to do everything from start to end... there's always some little detail to come back to when mapping, thus there were a few little things left out to prioritize others, but at the end of the day this came out almost exactly as I envisioned it. In this mission you play as the typical professional thief. You've been hired to retrieve a scroll containing forbidden knowledge from the mansion of a wealthy noble, put there by the builder church who is close to its owner and found it a more suitable spot. A banquet is being thrown by the lord who owns the mansion which is the perfect opportunity to make your move. Nothing out of the ordinary: You're to retrieve this scroll and get paid for your work... simple, right? Notice: Performance in some areas may be poor. I optimized the lighting setup as much as possible, trying to use as few long range light sources as I could. To achieve the desired theme however I had to leave parts of them map relatively open. Hopefully this won't be a hindrance to anyone... if it is you may need to lower some graphical settings. For people who don't like surprises and may be sensitive to certain themes, read the spoiler below. If you're okay with anything don't as it will ruin the experience! For people who are stuck and don't know how to proceed, instructions are provided in the spoiler below. Only read them if necessary. A tip that needs no spoilers: The key in this FM is exploration and reading everything carefully. There are secrets to be found: Always look everywhere and closely at everyone! I'm eager to hear what your experience with this FM is. Use spoilers when referring to specifics, but do let me know what your thoughts are! Especially with this being my first FM I could use tips, including technical ones if you look at the map in DarkRadiant. Here are a few screenshots of the main areas (intended for the installer): And finally the download links. Unzip and place the main directory inside your fms folder, this should get it to show up in the mission list. Mirror 1 Mirror 21 point

Thnx, I have used this tool unsuccessfully, but thankfully you found what I was looking for.1 point

Thank you, that looks like a nice small mission too but I was looking for a rather large mission. That indeed seems to be it, though I remember the beginning completely different, less urban. Many Thanks!1 point

The problem would be that, if this is not the first mission of the campaign, you would have to start the campaign from zero again. This becomes annoying after some time. Imagine you have a four mission campaign that is released over four years. You would have to play the first mission four times, the second three times and the third twice just if you want to finish it. If there are (crutial) bugfix updates to the campaign or an update to TDM, while you are playing it, these numbers would further increase and earlier missions are more likely to be affected in this case. So, after the third or fourth time the first mission might just get a bit boring. In general, I agree to your sentiment: it would be nice to have a better campaign support. I could imagine something like in Dishonored, where you can choose Missions you already finished (or the next one, you have not finished, yet) from a screen. Mission stats (and variables that are transferred from mission to mission) could be printed in a dedicated txt-file and read out for each mission. That way you could replay missions that you liked without having to replay all and it might make it easier to add missions afterwards. However, this requires a new GUI for campaigns, which adds whole lot of work to this suggestion. I also know this problem. I have no experience with programming whatsoever. On this board you are usually told to just pick a project and start with it. The rest will come eventually. Unfortunately, I would not know where to even start. I have no idea how to read the source code, so I would also have no idea how to change what or even where to start looking for a project like this.1 point

Sorry Neon, all links have been taken down. I'm making a small FM and reworking some of these assets + making many more. This will take some time, but I aim for the complete package this time. It should prove more useful.1 point

Here is a fun side-by-side comparison. Just a note: The story/plot and set pieces will have no ties with the Thief series. I am planning on including Easter Eggs for nostalgic reasons alone.1 point

When I opened the map with my office laptop, the map was very dark. I'm quite sure my monitor needs calibrated. These images are more more accurate as to what the ambience is supposed to look like (still wip and tweaking)1 point

Man, September and October have been a shit show so progress slowed down a ton. But I just had a lot of fun wrapping some blood around this boar's neck. It was a bitch and took forever to get the patch just right, but the desired effect was pulled off nicely. Like someone hacked his head off and plopped it down in front of the altar. Now some flies and a couple bloody handprints, once the rest of this cave is decorated it will have a pagan vibe.1 point

I'm not sure when I'll get back to modelling, but this was the last thing I was working on. Never made a weapon prop before. This one was supposed to be either main loot or special loot item.1 point

Imagine a garden with fireflies sitting on stuff, when you come close they fly away into the dark. So I made a big firefly with wings and stuff and made it fly: FireFly Video Next is scaling it all down to fly size.1 point

I can confirm the game crashes when keyholing on goodneighbour V2, TDM 2.08, 64bit, Ubuntu 20.04 hmm, are you sure you are using the TDM x64 exe file (as TDM comes with two exe files - 32-bit and 64-bit). And I'm afraid i won't be too much help with Linux, not sure how well AGN plays on that1 point

So with the help of several very talented individuals, I finally managed to get out a fairly sizeable update for this mission. You can find an updated credits list and a brief changelog for Version 2. Also, the external download link has been updated and the new version should be uploaded to the official servers soon. If anything is broken, please let me know and I'll get to fixing it. Enjoy!1 point

Next up is this cabinet. Not much to write home about, this was my first furniture model for TDM. The drawers are not usable, so all the handles were baked on flat surface. Note that the back has lower pixel density to save on texture space. In most situations it should be facing the wall, not the player.1 point

Secrets wouldn't be secrets if i gave them out . Other people on this thread have found all five, so you can check there. But if you don't want to spoil yourself, consider going on another hunt. After all, I'm sure there will be a few other new things you could find. I'm glad you enjoyed it though1 point

Well, you know how to learn by yourself The map layout is really pretty good!1 point

Ha, nope, I've only ever worked with DR. That's not to say that this FM came out of nowhere though. I've spent years quietly learning how to map and scrapped many projects because of awful mapping practices, scope was wayyy too big, etc. This was the culmination of many, many years of hard work. Hopefully I'll be able to make these faster now, ha1 point

Did you have some mapping experience with other engines/games? 'cause it's an incredibly well packed first map. Please, add the release date to the thread title!1 point
