  1. Hello all. Been a while since I've stopped by here (darn real life obligations mixed with forgetfulness), but the fairly popular Youtube channel OutsideXbox just today posted a video of "7 Fan Mods That Totally Transformed The Game" and The Dark Mod was one they covered! Their videos usually get between a quarter and a half million views, so I'd imagine we'll see a decent number of new people trying the mod. Pretty positive impression they give of it too, as well as some amusing commentary. The Dark Mod section starts at 10:48:

  2. Thief 2014 started out quite exciting, with that big hub-area, but after some time, you notice its problems and so it gets boring quickly. Linear level sections Inability to return to previous level sections (that's a big "no no" for games that revolve around finding loot) Extensive viewport animations whenever you grab something (makes me dizzy) Magic escape dodge doesn't feel very stealthy

  3. Woot. Of course it would. Unless you restrict that in your license. There are millions of proprietary freeware which of course let you create stuff for the public, or even create it for commercial products. Unless the license forbids that, you can do anything with it.

  4. The sound propagation in Thief 2014 was pretty broken a lot of the time, as was the AI vision. It really didn't have the necessary attention to detail to qualify as a 'good' game, in my opinion. Visually, the game was very pretty but I really can't say it was very good at all...not for a AAA title, and especially not after the same studio did such a great job with Deus Ex. It's a shame the community wasn't interested in digging into the game and trying to hack it, to see if some things could be improved but from what I gather it was all so tightly locked down that it wasn't possible. I have my issues with Theif 3 too, but the sound prop and AI visual systems both worked as they should in those games

  7. Ha cool ideas! I am currently only playing on having the miners lamp to alert enemies instantly. The lamp darkness mechanic is actually very very cool and optional. You can just put on the brightness slider and you wouldnt need the lantern anymore. But someone who loves to immersive themselves will definitly use it. I am definitly trying to highlight the danger factor!

  8. The installer always downloads the tdm_installer.ini when you leave the first page, unless you check "Skip config file download" (which is necessary mainly for debugging). This might sound inefficient, but config file is a small chunk of text, so it's not a big problem downloading it again and again. The root of error is clear: installer does not download config file. Maybe it also cannot download itself (i.e. cannot self-update). Maybe it also cannot update your TDM installation, and you are still on old version (although I'm pretty sure it would throw some error if that happened). I have no idea why download fails. Perhaps if you share log file immediately after the run when config download failed, it would show something.

  9. I'm a old Metalhead since the 69, but unfortunately Wacken is a bit far for me and I always had to limit myself to local concerts and festivals, or, well, because of COVID what is on YT. The positive is that you can discover new bands that even take Metal to a new level. Of the current bands, my favorites are Vintersea, Be'lakor and Harakiri for the Sky, !!the latter with brutal videos, but painfully true.

  10. Asus rampage iv extreme, with a core i7 3930K and 32 gig kingston black edition ddr3 ram, crucial MX500 SSD and several mechanical seagate HDD (storage space in excess of 8 TB). The board and CPU are pretty old but still able to handle anything i can throw at it, sadly 3 fan headers have become broken over time but else everything works 100%. GFX card is an sapphire R9 390 with 8 gb ram, while not able to handle 4k with any reasonable fps i normally game at 1080 resolutions and at that resolution this old geezer still eats any game i can throw at it. I havent upgraded anything for several years now, but im pondering going for the 6800 XT when it comes out.

  11. Gigabyte H310M S2H Motherboard Intel Core i5-8400 CPU 8 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Couple of TB of storage, all SSD I am in the process of procuring an upgrade to 16 GB of RAM, but only because of Cyberpunk 2077. It's been a very long time since I upgraded for any specific purpose like a game, it's normally only when enough hardware is out of date to make typical usage unacceptable... or when things die. I suppose I could upgrade the graphics as well but since I only play 1080p @ 60 Hz stuff, even "modern" titles run at acceptable performance for the most part. I also play a heck of a lot of older titles - I feel guilty when spending lots of money on a new graphics card when there's little I play to utilize it with. But that's just me.
