  1. tHe bLAck MaGE If my recollection is correct, Grayman posted a few shots of this WIP (from the outside) back in 2017 or 2018. I've added one larger and two smaller new areas and decorated the remaining rooms similar to Grayman's style (that is, I tried to do so). Here a few shots from the rooms/areas in question: It took me ca. four weeks to finish all of this. Since most of the other essential tasks (efx, ambient sound) had already been set up by Grayman, I can already start with gameplay/puzzles, readables and dialogues. His text briefing will be translated (without changes!) into a briefing video with voice actors. Based on this introduction, I have created a number of (mostly manic) additional characters, all of which will appear in dialogues or via phonograms in the game. This mission will not be a sad bow to Grayman. On the contrary, building on his story abstract, the entire mission shall become a humorous experience, not too difficult to play, as everyone should have the opportunity to complete one of his last creations. I can only hope Grayman would have liked it.

  3. Project Exhibited (a little TDM clone) A thrilling first-person action-stealth game. Play as Dana, the inventor thief, and use your gadgets to fulfill your task; retrieving a special artifact from a private art collection in a mysterious palazzo. Guardians (!!good AI!!) can be knocked out using an electric glove, although here they wake up after a short time. -Very nice mission, good Graphics, but only this one, good for ~30min immersive gameplay. May serve as inspiration for TDM missions. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1181640/Project_Exhibited/ Min OS: Windows 7 Processor: Intel Core i5 Memory: 2 GB de RAM Gráficos: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 DirectX: Version 11 HD: 6 GB free

  4. I know that feeling. About 15 years ago, I had been working on a TDS map for 3/4 of a year. I lost it all due to a HDD crash, and as young and naive as I was, I did not have any backups. I was devastated! It was so demotivating that I never started mapping again... That tough lesson gave me absolute data paranoia. So nowadays, I do a shitload of backups. The really important stuff, like code, source files and photos, go into the cloud. Less important stuff or files too big for cloud storage (like uncut raw travel video files) are backupped to a separate physical HDD (NOT a separate partition on the same HDD!!). For this, I use the programm "Allway Sync", which can perform automated backups when the PC is idle or whenever file changes were detected. Now I feel fairly confident that I will not lose data again. Every now and then I get an anxious feeling that my software setup might not be working anymore as intended, so I check that everything is working. I really am paranoid in this regard. BTW, for mapping etc. it might also make sense to use some form of version control, like SVN or GIT (with LFS). The latter is a bit more complex to learn, but has the advantage that you don't have to setup a server.

  8. Yes they can, but it doesn't solve the problem. The restriction isn't with our license¹, it's with the Steam legal requirements. The person who publishes the forked TDM on Steam would need to sign a legally-binding contract that says "I, <name> residing at <address>, am the legal entity responsible for the content of this game, and Valve or a third party can sue me if they suspect that the game contains some misused asset". Nobody in their right mind would sign such a contract to cover a project which they just forked, without first having their lawyers go through every single asset and line of source code to make sure it was 100% legit. ¹ Actually I don't know if there are problems with our license as well. It wouldn't surprise me if Steam simply won't allow any game with a "non-commercial only" CC license, since Steam is a commercial platform and the precise legal extent of such restrictions is unclear.

  9. Looks legal to me. But you wouldn't even need to fork... You just need to claim responsibility for potential copyright issues. Obviously, nobody living in any western country (like me) would ever do that - except when he is either filthy rich or a lawyer specialized in copyright law... It is too risky for the generic dude living in a free democratic country where a single copyright law suit can ruin your life - even if you win in the end.

  10. This unfortunately misses the point a bit. The problem is not the open source license, per se, the problem is that Valve requires (or at least required?) a legal party or entity that is responsible for the app/game. So if any legal challenges about TDM (e.g. assets that we did not actually have permission to include) reach the Steam platform, Valve can offload them to the legal entity. But TDM doesn't have a natural legal entity, and so far no individual has stepped forward to take on that role. Nor would I advise anyone to, because it is potentially tricky and not without risk. I imagine this is going to be similar for any other store, as well. And that's why there has not been any progress in getting TDM on Steam or any other store, and I don't think that's likely to change.
