My fault for not making it clear. The fact that they're hidden is great, it's just the fact that there are so many that stop you from going back afaik. I'd rather have more intricate map geometry as the trade-off for a few drawn-out animations though, especially given the lack of impact on performance.

Uh-huh, but it seems the moment I voice a less-than-condemning opinion of the game it's a hate crime against either poor people who can't afford to upgrade or fans of the first few. It's quite difficult to rationally explain why it's such an inherently radical and sensationalist conclusion to jump to other than saying it's nonsensical and unfounded, which then prompts another similar accusation. It's almost surreal to come back and get a response like that after having said "that man seems like a nice guy." Sometimes people need to be told off, but I agree it shouldn't take up 3 pages of a thread.

Hehe, well in almost every game I've played that works off D&D rules, the Thief/Rogue is always a walking cliché. You get all sorts of mages, warriors, bards, rangers and healers but the Thief is almost always a gravelly-voiced, apathetic, loveable rogue. It tended to fit in with those games as they still worked off the culture that brought you the awesomely ridiculous Fantasy novels that really were fantastical and had awesome covers busier than a Rubens painting. That was where the archetypal rogue was born and it's since become a cliché people try to avoid. Garrett, I think, was the last example of an apathetic and cynical yet loveable rogue that worked, largely due to the game's setting and its fantastical quirks you saw with craymen and the like. He wasn't very cheesy at all, despite having some lines that are cheesy, moreso when re-used in fan missions. I think they were just used in the main games at exactly the right points with the exact mood it needed to stop it sounding silly. There's a dissonance between that kind of person and the more secular-feeling city that this rendition seems to have, because I've only ever really associated the character with thoroughly fantastical settings. That aside, Stephen Russell was simply far better at making it sound like an inner monologue. The writing also wasn't as fourth-wall breaking in terms of objectives since that had all been dealt with in the briefing. It's a mixture of a bunch of things really, but it's the lack of 90s context that makes the 90s Thief Archetype fall short here.

Thats the point. Why should SQeenix be interested in giving a free project a good publicity? Or let TDM expand more ?

I suspect there are connections from TDM to SE. This never has been made possible without asking somebody from TDM or vice versa.

And I dunno if it is a clever marketing-strategy from SE to use a free mod (editor) which is the moral "Thief" authority for

years. What would be the benefit of this? What will be the benefits for TDM? mmmhhhhh.......

hopefully SE is not up to bury the TDM, because a good mod like this is like a nail in their coffin.

TDm will remain . Thief4 will be forgotten at the end of 2014 when everybody can get it for peanuts as GOTY-edition from the "software-pyramid"

The TDM is part of their DISCLAIMER:

    DISCLAIMER

Square Enix, Amazon, AMD, The Dark Mod, and all participating sponsors, and any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, professional advisors, employees, and agencies will not be responsible for: (a) any late, lost, misrouted, garbled, or distorted or damaged transmissions or entries; (B) any software or source code malfunctions, bugs, viruses, malware; ©telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet, or other computer or communications related malfunctions or failures; (d) any Competition disruptions, injuries, losses, or damages caused by events beyond the control of Square Enix or other participating sponsors; or (e) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Competition.

Looks like they accept a video of a mission for an entry, nothing about of how complete this mission is or what?

Why would you discard a engine that works on Android and reads code and files from idtech 4 automatically to a engine that is totally diferent has no support for modding is closed not free for the android version afaik and has no support for any of the idtech 4 files, be it maps, animations, md5 models, shaders, gameplay code, c++ code, etc etc? All would be needed to be made from scratch on Unity.

As for TDM - it even drops performance on midend PC sometimes. How optimized it needed to be to run on tablets i can't imagine...

Unity otherwise has free version, editor and can build straight to tablet or iphone

I think bulding level in unity will take less time as theres no need to snap to grid, can seamlessly insert geometry from blender, has script editor, motion system for human ragdolls and so on...

The other thing that paid version offers more optimization and visual options. And mobiles kinda bad at dynamic lights.

  4. Just installed win 8 and had some problems with dlink Ethernet. Found win 8 fix for it somewhere else than dlink site. It may be worse on win 8.1 as its newer and you need special win 8.1 drivers for it

  5. As for adding other effects, I think this is a topic for a later date. For now getting the code into better shape is more important than adding useless effects (I would strongly oppose motion blur, DoF would also be fairly silly.). But there are tools to add these effects to games without needing to modify the game itself. If they work with TDM, I have no idea :)

Quite a contrary DOF one is especcially migth prove usefull for masking growing doom3 age

i,mean in the prospect of new xbox and ps

What looks silly is 10 years old graphics

  6. If you want to have this in your own effect, one possible way is to create a nonsolid spheric patch around the player that uses a custom material which makes use of the heat haze program. Everything inside the range of the sphere will look normal, and everything outside will look distorted.

    You mean shader haze effect?

Don't these sikkmod things done in renderer section of engine somewhere?

  7. Is it possible to add distance based blur to tdm picture (like fov) and other modern effects? I can think of dirty camera, motion blur ..

And otherwise remove outdated bloom effect?

As to fov it would be probably something like blurred image applied via mask on base image every frame..

  8. 555_1osaka_castle_japan.jpgSee this picture?

SW is like this only way cooler. Night scenes in Shadow Warrior is absolutely stunning, pure awesomness of UE3 and if only T4 could be like this...

Anyway if you did not grab it already, you probably should, it's super good

  9. I lost blend files for this when Tortoise desided to remove them along with not needed repo (( I got screenshots though)) and a feeling this could be modelled from scratch 10 times faster now

But thats not the case, guy who did initial artwork was a badass artist indeed and no doubt doing photoshop aftereffects will recquire skiils undreamed of.

I was tinking of dave mckean for the job)))
