  1. Make sure you check it out again...I just tweaked the ceiling and added some more trim along the walls. If it's alright with everyone else I'll go ahead and post it on the TTLG thread. It's kinda got that Widow Moria look to it, which is alot closer to the style we're going for than my first map.
  2. I've got your ceiling in the game, but I can't seem to get it to fit in with the rest of the room. That style of ceiling is great for rooms with only a little emblishment along the walls, otherwise the tiles conflict with the positions of the posts and it starts looking funky (I'm pretty anal when it comes to mapping...in case you can't tell ). I'm gonna try and do it with different layers of tiles, smaller ones along the edge and bigger ones towards the center so it'll line up properly. Edit: ere we go The normalmap needs a bit more depth to flesh it out, but it looks alright. The ceiling looks too flat in comparison to the rest of the room, though. I'll have to fix that up.
  3. Yup, Dom, Blackthief needs to get the game so he can have as much fun with it as I am. Yet another quick update, this time with BT's blue windows in tow. I really need to learn how to make light materials, once I do I could get the shadows being cast on the floor to mimic the window perfectly and get a nice crosshatch shadow setup going on.. Whoop But as it is it looks pretty alright. Needs furniture and light fixtures...and a ceiling still...and maybe some more tweaks on the lighting...but anway, there it is.
  4. Whoa, place lost alot of it's cheer since while I was away...now it's all gothed out. Anyway, new textures placed in a more properly lit room for your persual. I even threw in my ugly ass wallpaper texture just to show it off....still think it belongs in a bathroom. Pic I intend to throw in a fireplace near the center of the room once I get an appropriate texture in place. I also wanna make it less angular, but I figured it'd be good to test out the lighting engine so I made a few pillars and grooves to see how it'd do. I haven't imported Blackthief's paneled ceiling yet (hence no ceiling), but it'll be in there soon. I'll also try out his other wallpapers in place of mine, too.
  5. Eww, damn...never a good thing to happen But it's also happened to us all, man. I remember way back in the day when I had a load of maps all stored nice and snug within my games directory...and I decided to uninstall Half-Life. Some of what I consider my best maps ever were gone in an instant. A month and a half later, after I had the brace taken off my wrist, I started mapping again.
  6. While the art is undeniably excellent, the style isn't very Thieflike. Like everyone else has said, it needs alot more blue... lol, what I find really amazing is that the guy was able to draw this up pratically in his spare time while I fumbled around with preexisting images for hours on end. I really need to learn to draw.
  7. I doubt very seriously that we'll be sued over it. From what I can gather, since I grabbed it from a 3rd party source (google imaged it, first pic that comes up when you queary Thief which is off another messageboard), didn't slap a "copywrited by Renzatic" on it and only used a small portion of the actual picture it falls under fair use laws. As long as we don't claim authorship, we're safe. lol, and that's a the blur line...that's the guy's hood you're seeing. I was pretty anal about getting rid of any obvious editing marks since I basically did this for practice and wanted to get it right. The only way you can tell where I cut and copied is if you up the gamma a good ways.
  8. Nah, no objections. Knock yourself out.
  9. I didn't save the building after I was done editing it, unfortunately...but I grabbed the picture from here... http://www.abandonedasylum.com/dsh1.html It's the 2nd from the bottom, 3rd picture. I stretched it out to the same dimensions as the banner and tweaked it from there.
  10. That's probably the size it needs to be to fit as a banner. It keeps the detail pretty well even sized down, but the text suffers even with BT's tweak. Actually, BT...I might try and hit you up on AIM or MSN one day and see if you can teach me some Photoshop tricks if that's alright with you. Hey, if it'll help you out a bit I'll go ahead and upload the logo and banner templates I used. You can grab the logo here And the Thief banner here At the very least the logo will help you out if we decide to make it official...tweak it to your hearts content.
  11. Yeah it is, but since I'm burnt out right now I'll wait til tomorrow to fix it.
  12. Okay, I'm about to call it a night here...5 hours of goofing around with PS is enough to tire out anybody. Let's take a vote here...which do you like better? The reedited one above, or this... I figured I'd throw a building in there for the hell of it.
  13. I just caught that....consider it fixed.
  14. Or an actual banner...
  15. It was a nice diversion from working on textures, and it let me play with the text editor in 3DSMax. For those of you that want the glowy Thiefy look.. And for those of you that like it simple I really went haywire with the filters in Photoshop, didn't I? Should've added a lens flair while I was at it. Edit: Oh yeah, thanks go out to Riddler and his font package for the E.
  16. Yeah, those 2 blueish white wood textures do have a more colonial feel to em, but I threw em in cuz they fit with the theme of the map I'm intending to build... Which is somewhat inspired by this... If it ends up being too specific and doesn't fit with the rest of the textures I'll end up taking it out or tweaking it til it does.
  17. And of course Blackthief's woodpanel...I just finished it.
  18. This shot represents all the textures that I consider finished or good enough to keep. A few might need a couple of tweaks on the normalmaps here and there, but for the most part I'd say they're baked and golden. They've been fitted to 128x128 brushes so I could show em all in one shot without having to zoom out.
  19. WOOHOO! I CAN POST AGAIN! lol, anyway...I have a few wallpaper textures of my own to contribute. None of them are quite as Thiefy as Blackthief's, but I'm sure they'll have their place in the game somewhere. This one turned out great ingame, but alas...it's sort of a funky hell of an ugly wallpaper. Could fit for bathrooms, though. This one is more intheme, but it looks more like a carpet than a wallpaper. They're not bad, but I like the ones posted above a helluva lot better. So far I have about 27 textures from various sources ingame with about 5 or 6 of them refusing to show up properly. Originally I thought tweaking the color levels confused the editor, but after some tweaked textures showed up I'm starting to believe it has more to do with either the directory structure or just plain randomness . Since some of the default Id textures refused to show up even before I started modding it's hard to say. Edit: Once again I have to bring up how much better it is to do normalmaps by hand... In the end it makes it far cleaner and looks a good deal better. It's not that hard to do either, I've never done any texturework before I started this project so I'm sure some of you photoshop pros won't have any problems at all.
  20. Sounds like a plan to me! I'll start harassing people shortly.
  21. Hey, thanks for the texture. I think I might try and tackle your stained glass windows next and see what I can come up with. Pretty soon, counting both your textures and the ones I've done so far, I might have enough to make a good sized mockup map. But if you can, see if you can make some bumpmaps to help me out with. Photosourced textures usually need to be tweaked alot more than the Blade textures do, so it'd be alot faster if I had an extra hand doing em. Edit: Actually, it'd be a good idea if everyone making textures (which I think is just Blackthief, possibly Alexius, and I) were to get together and started organizing everything. It'll mean alot less work on down the road if we keep everything in order and pack the textures the same way and whatnot.
  22. Oooh, guess all hope isn't lost for having a System Shock-alike done with Doom 3 in the near future. We could talk to em and see about passing a sound propagation system back and forth between the mods.
  23. I consider this a small occasion since his woodpanel texture is the first normalmap I've done by hand. It's a great texture overall, but I had to do a few tweaks here and there to get it to work properly ingame...like change the paneling a bit towards the bottom cuz they bent a little towards the right and whatnot. Finishing it up helped me learn alot about Photoshop and MS Paint in the process, so it's all good. I still have a bit to go before it's completed, but this is the 80% complete texture, and the first one of Blackthief's textures I've done properly. Check it out HERE, mangs! P.S: It's dark in the renderer cuz I wanted to show how the light would catch it. I'm particularly proud of this one.
  24. A level design board would be great. Even though we've still got a bit to do before we reach the point where we start mapping hardcore, it'd still be good to throw around some ideas and have everyone comment on what's cool or not. I've already got a great idea for a map, and it'd be cool to have a good place to talk about it at.
