  1. Maybe you should post it on TTLG as well.
  2. Where can you see the number of downloads? Do you have to register for that?
  3. That looks really great! Do you want to become a beta mapper?
  4. It will get released. The reason why it was delayed is because Carmack always said that the source code is released when no paying customer is using it anymore, respectivly when the last lizence has expired. This was the case with the other engines as well. Since Doom 3 is used in one game which is still in production, we have to wait until it is released, and then D3 will also be released.
  5. You did this with the assets of Thiefs Den??? Looks really good!
  6. To me those screenshots look quite good. What do you think?
  7. The upper part (the barrel with the handles) looks really good to me. However the texture on the bottom part (the stool) looks totally crap. Also if you are interested and have time, it would be good to have a broken version as well. One where the barrel might be broken, and the handle maybe bent or broken off, maybe with a leg missing as well. I think we have way to many rather new looking objects in the repository already.
  8. The major reason why I switched to LCD is simply deskspace. With a 22inch CRT it takes a lot of space on the desk, while the same in LCD leaves a lot of room for the keyboard and everything. Much better that way. Imagewise I don't care to absolutely have pure black or so, so the quality is sufficient for me.

    XP SP3

I'm using AntiVir which is good enough for me. It's free to use, but it's a bit slow. On my last machine this was a bit noticable. Not much, but in some cases. On my new machine it doesn't matter, so that's fine for me.
  10. Same here. Haven't played Thief so much lately, but I definitely played it on the laptop on LCD for some time, and never had an issue with it.
  11. I do the same. I don't see why I should risk my discs either. Also it's unconvenient. And I have several discs where I did not do this, and which are now either missing, or the kids damaged them. As long as a game is good I also buy it, and the other ones are not played anyway, so it's not as if I steal something. My wife is even complainign because I have so many game boxes. But I like them. It's even nice to look at them, the cover art and booklets, so that's also a reason to buy it.
  12. Of course. I guess half of the posts in our forum are dedicated to you vanishing. Nice to see you back. I always felt sorry for you going away, because you are really good. And we also had a lot of fun, back when it started.
  13. That was not the lantern that I remembered. We had one where the arm was sticking out holding the lantern model in front of you, which looked really cool. I don't remember that we had animations of raising /lowering the lantern only to disapear afterwards.
  14. I also use Pinacle Game Profiler for some games and it's a really good tool. It takes some time to get used to playing first person. Can't imagine to play thief with it.
  15. As much as I would like to see XP being followed up by Linux, I don't really see this happening. As for pitying MS, I don't see why. They know pretty well, what issues people have and they choose to ignore it for corporate reasons. And a virusscanner slowing down games? Well, of course it takes away some cycles, but that's not really an issue. I have one of the slowest scanners (Because it's free and it got good reviews) and I don't see any problems in games.
  16. Personally I found the lamp benig hold in the hand quite cool, because it really felt quite realistic and looked good. I don't care so much for the issues above, but this is my personal preference.
  17. Yeah, I noticed such things in other games earlier as well. For example, I was trying to install a gameand it complained that it doesn't support the german version of Windows 2000 (was quite some time ago). I changed the language settings to english, and installed it fine. Switched back to german, run the game, everything works as it should. So I always wonder why developers tell us such bullshit? Is it only because they haven't tested that configuration and so they claim only the config that they tested with, to evade regressions? Or is it that they try to make the impression that the user doesn't know anyway and must be spoonfed, so that he gets into the habit of folowing corporate advice more easily?
  18. Well, I wanted to see Vista not only for that. I thought it might also make sense to give it a try, even if I don't plan to use it much. I have enough diskspace, so that is not an issue. I was wondering if new games will be Vista exclusively. For the developers it doesn't make sense, but I can see MS pushing it for obvious reasons.
  19. Yeah, but isn't there a difference because of the DirectX shader system or something? It probably works, but will it look max?
  20. I agree with most of that. The only thing I adisagree is the number of CPUs. It's VERY differnt coding for one CPU or more, so I'd say it's understandable if software doesn't work on multicore CPUs if they were written with a single CPU. However, it shouldn't matter if you write software for two CPUs or more, because then there is not so much difference. Of course some special requirements may apply, but I doubt that games need to move in this area.
  21. Since they didn't bother with XP, why should they with Vista? I don't think that this is an issue of capabillities, rather an issue of deliberate choice. I'm going to install Vista as an additional OS. The only reason is, because there is one game that I want to give a try. Unless Assasins Creed works under XP as well. But I think it requires DirectX 10 which is only available under Vista, right?
  22. BEAR I activated your account today. I was going on vacation two days before you sent me the request, so it took some time. The screenshots look nice to me, but I'm not an artist.
  23. LOL! And here I thought that the days are gone where Windows behaves like a teenager. I partiontioned all my partitions with GParted. A linux distribution similar to Partition Magic. The reason was, because I tried to install XP on my brand new machine with a 1TB SATA Drive, and when I created the second partition it automatically choose a secondary partition, which I didn't want, because I also want to install additional OSes (Vista and Linux). So after rebooting, it recognized all my partions, but it refused to install into the assigned one. I had to remove two partitions, create a new one with the same size and position as before and then it allowed me to install into this. BUT! It still refused to create the second partition that I had to delete before, for no reason. And I was thinking that these stupid DOS days were over, where MS caused you all these troubles. It seems I was wrong.
  24. Not sure if it's dual channel, but it's two sticks. I read that two sticks give better performance than a single stick. If that also helps games stopping from crashing, that's good. *SIGH* I new that going to 4GB might cause issues. It's always like that, though I don't understand it. If developers would take better care, this shouldn't happen. And it's not as if developers don't know that system specs are increasing all the time.
