  1. I've just skimmed through this thread and many of the posts but basically I'm hearing discussion about should we be focusing on ttlg players? The simple answer is no. If you look at TDS sales and the amount of users active on TTLG forums it's pretty easy to see that the thief series is not confined to TTLG, rather TTLG is attractive to it's members because of the type of community it is, not because of thief per-say. If we wanted to get into the mainstream market to get more attention there would be a couple things we would need: 1) The engine to be free so no one needs a copy of D3 2) A clear user-voted dynamic library within the game for players to vote on and filter fan missions. 3) A campaign to convince new players that they should play the FMs. These 3 things will set us up for success because we will have something big to promote and it will not be hindered by over complication of setup or the requirement to own D3. Once we had more fan-fair then our FM artists would be more motivated to get out more FMS. Problem is however, these are 3 major goals which require a ton of man power and we all have lives outside of TDM. Recently mine has become so busy I can barely keep up on these forums. Keep in mind if we consider the amount of work done in the campaign right now, the amount of maps would be above the average level this year already. But time is being sunk into that project which is awaiting completion before we let you all play it
  2. Maybe I'm mistaken, I thought I remembered seeing very nice stone wall textures on the first mission which appeared 3d. But would having the ability to have only select textures parallaxed eliminate this or would any parallax require a complete shader rewrite? I'm imagining an ability to choose a texture that would be like stone stone_parallax Much like we have with some textures like: stone_noshadows Plus would we be able to give players the ability to turn it off and return to performance the same as before? I agree, maybe it could be something tabled for the distant future.
  3. I was looking at some images we have posted after taking some time away from computers entirely for quite an extended period of time and there's one thing I noticed. When we have specific brick or cobblestone textures they look fairly flat and bland. Maybe we should revisit the idea of parallax mapping, it would really improve these textures and actually increase performance because mappers wont need to use polygons to make convincingly 3d cobblestone and brickwork. We don't need parallax for all textures, this is one of the things TDS did right. Some textures had parallax some didn't, why don't we do the same, is this a good or bad idea?

    Doom4 Hyrra

I think the fell of Doom1 and 2 is still completely possible. Some other games I'd rank on par with the Doom-action-esque gameplay are "The Specialists Mod" for half-life 1 (I absolutely loved the super fast intense action in this game) as well as Killing Floor. If developers get the game's movements right it makes a massive difference in gameplay.

    Doom4 Hyrra

I agree with Melan. I want them to focus on gameplay first, story second, graphics last. These images kind of bum me out because I can just see having to sit through drawn out cutscenes for a crap story already. ID's stories are not good. They needs to admit to themselves their no longer the industry leader in the visual department. Maybe Besthesda will help them out with the story but I'm not holding my breath. Gameplay is all they have left to be the best at, and they've lost their way. Here's some more alleged images. http://www.allgamesb...ked-images.html The rumor it was canceled is false according to Gamespot.
  8. Lol my GPU isn't on the vote list. You have newer than ATI 4xxx or older than ATI 2xxxx I have a 3870 which would be a 3xxxx. (I chose older anyway.) It's been an awesome GPU, very reliable, still plays most games, never overheats. It's about 5-6 years old. Made me an ATI fan.

    Mac Vs PC

After talking to people for years about Macs I finally have got the chance to use one for about 3 months on a daily basis. I think I'm in a better position than most to comment on the differences now, and even though this is a topic beat to death I'd still like to give my 2 cents. Firstly I'd like to say I came at the Mac with an open heart and full understanding it would take some time to get accustomed to the differences. Generally I use it for web browsing and word processing only, I do plug in an iPhone into it: Pros: It looks good. The App store syncs automatically between apple products (I don't think this is specific only to the Mac though) If your headphones unplug the Mac goes to your previous unplugged volume. It looks pretty. It has a very nice monitor that has very correct color display and does not change based on angle. The monitor is covered by glass so you cannot damage it as easily as some laptops. The touchpad scrolling is convenient. The two finger right click is much better than 2 buttons. Three finger swipe to view a calendar is nice (but if you had a mouse you could click the time on Windows 7 which would be just as fast). Auto-indexing for searching is convenient for finding docs (I think you can setup Windows 7 to do this automatically though). It has a good wifi range. It has loud speakers built into it. Cons: The keyboard and touchpad sometimes stop responding. It often lags so bad that as I type I can stop and watch the letters catch up with me. Anything I want I need to buy as an app. If you are doing work on it the workflow is severly disrupted by a very poorly thought out alt-tab process which allows you to switch between applications, but not specific documents (IE: pick between 3 word documents) The dock is annoying because if you have multiple word documents open you cannot just quickly visually see which doc you want because they all have the same icon and an extremely miniature image of the content. When you copy and paste to the desktop it places icons ontop of one another on the bottom right instead of where you hit paste, so you get a stack of icons on your desktop in one spot. If you maximize a browser when hooked up to 2 monitors it puts a grey texture on the other monitor (WHY?!) You cannot maximize all windows. You cannot shake to minimize like in Win 7, instead you have to use a 4 finger swipe on the touchpad which only works 50% of the time. Routinely locks up applications. The battery life-time is a lie. If you are using it full-time while it's on battery you get 2-3 hours even though it says 6 hours. If you close the Mac it has lights on it which stay on and drain the battery, so after about 3 days of no use it's dead. This is the case unless you shut it off. (My netbook goes into sleep mode when the case is closed). It heats up just as much as any other computer (another marketing lie). Conclusion: Despite giving it a fair shake, I can't see why on earth anyone would ever think Windows 7 is worse. The only possible explanation is that either they didn't know how to use Windows 7 and never ever multi-tasked or they REALLY hate having to have an anti-virus.
  10. I was backing stuff up on an external hard drive and the External HD actually died.... About 6 years of digital pictures, music, videos etc all gone. I think the only real way to securely back things up is on DVDs / CDs.
  11. Get that man some gravity boots!
  12. I fully support this idea. How many maps should we favorite and should they be ranked in any specific order? No offense at all. I'd be lying if I said the thief series didn't have an influence on me. My impression from the original post was that he meant the texture quality, poly count etc was reminiscent of T2.
  13. Making good looking TDM images has always been a challenge. We are dealing with a game with very dark environments which are often cramped and require the player to look at things in multiple angles to capture all the detail. The smaller details also do not show up in an image. To translate all that to an image is very difficult. When they play the missions they will switch their tune. In any case, no worries, everyone's a critic.
  14. *tear in my eye* I love seeing TDM posts like this on Edios' forums. It always makes me wonder how many times they've brought up TDM at the business meetings.
  15. We need nearly every gambit you could think of. If your interested send me, Melan or Bikerdude a PM and we can give you more info
  16. The entire project has existed for about a year. However some of the maps have been in development dating back four years.
  17. It's been far to long haha. @ Sotha: That sounds great! We will keep an eye on you and your work, if you have anything specific you want us to look at be sure to PM us
  18. Just so we are clear the officialness of the campaign is still being discussed within the team. However whether or not it is official will not effect it's quality.

  20. I played this game a while ago, it's pretty fun in terms of mechanics and gameplay but the story and voice acting are really bad.
  21. Here's some stuff I've figured out playing Skyrim: Easy money: Make iron swords Enchant them with banish Dedra with any size soul gem. Sell and make $700 / sword Super enchantments / weapon/armor upgrades: Make a potion that enhances enchanting capability. Those Blue butterflies work. Go to enchanter and create something enchanted with increased potion strength Repeat until you have uber plus enchantment potions. Enchant something with increased armory ability. Wear it when armoring or use uber enchantment potions to give yourself uber enchantments.
  22. Haha amazing! Got to love Mr. Carmak for showing the community so much love
  23. I'm slowly warming to the new forum.
