Say, I know it's been a while since the site got overhauled from the crash. But did we ever figure out if/how to get the recent topics & replies list back? It's not a total deal breaker but it was nice for becoming a thread creeper again...

In case you're concerned about upcoming mission titles being spoilered: the topic list on the right is permission-trimmed, it's only showing what you're allowed to see. At least it was like this the last time I checked.
-
Ok but everyone (logged in) has permission to see every topic in the TDM Mission Beta Testing section afaik. But it's good that it's filtered for non forum members at least.
-
Oh, I wasn't aware that every member can see that forum. It used to be per invitation only in the past, I obviously missed that this has changed.
I didn't expect this to be possible, but there's in fact an option to select the forums that should show up in that block. I adjusted this to not show the Beta Testing forum now.

Some of you who've been on the TDM discord know I was out of work last Winter, just putting in hrs for the developer portfolio. Currently I've been working a seasonal job to pay the bills and now I'm finally in my last week before I get bumped off. Things will be tight but I'm planning a long off period to make as much content as I can. Big plans in Unreal Engine as well as my most ambitious TDM collab yet! Never been so excited to be a stuck at home to pursue my life's work. With a lotta time and maybe some luck, I'm hoping to get enough art work done that I may start applying around to studios.

Sorry about the job status but I am glad to hear that you will be doing some TDM things to sharpen your prospects Good luck!

Thanks fellas!
@NeonsStyleYeah I see CA's listings pretty frequently on ArtStation. Certainly making some cool stuff, however I just wish they had a branch state-side.
@nbohr1moreHonestly the job situation is what makes this possible for me. If I'm living within my means, unemployment benefits will keep me afloat while I make this a full-time endeavor.

Money or the lack thereof sucks balls. Hope you guys find a solution. @Epi, you can work online, that's a
big thing today, n offers so many opportunities, but the work isolation is tough.

Man, who needs parallax cubemaps when you could have RTX? But seriously if they got demos of Quake 2 running it, what would it take for RTX to run on something like TDM?

-
What would it take for nV to release an OpenGL extension that apparently does not need to limit to RTX hardware only?
-
Personally? No idea. I was just curious what everyone thought of that kind of rendering power somehow laced into our dated/beloved engine.
I'm still certain that parallax corrected cubemaps with updated material implementation (considering RTX is Nvidia exclusive) would be our safest bet for good reflections. Not real time but the usage would be a tremendous upgrade from stock cubemaps.

People created a tdm topic to discuss this. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19968-ray-tracing

Every time my internet goes out for half an hour, I try and check my messages to see if the coast got nuked or something. Thankfully no nukes have fallen today, so there's that.
-
I do kinda wish there was some sort of script that would export generic null positions (or cube primative) over selected mesh positions. Would be super handy for combining/cleaning up scenes arranged in DR.

I've got a solution for you. Make a func_static out of a small brush. Select the "model" key/value pair. Now deselect everything and select the models you want to extract position data from. In the entity inspector you should still have the model key/value pair queued up. Apply it to everything selected by clicking the green checkmark. Now all the models will be replaced with the brush you created. Export this selection of brushes as an obj.
-
Scratch that. Exporting as obj doesn't work and I can't revert the brushes back to worldspawn either.
-
You know now that I think about it. If I can use the world 0 0 0 set the same as Softimage, I might just be able to copy and paste the values out manually. Most of the big things I'm needing are rotation snapped anyways so that makes it easy.

Just got done watching The State of the Union Address. No regrets but 2018 looks like it's gonna be a packed year for sure. Pretty happy with what I heard overall.

Let's celebrate with a parade, shall we?

Trump didn't come out of nowhere. He has a life long record of being a blundering idiot. Sorry to burst that bubble for you. I had kind of hoped was that since he is so disgustingly rich that he wouldn't be so easily bought by corporations. No such luck... At this point it seems the most well thought out plan he had was to give himself and his 1% buddies a massive tax break.
-
With the recent peaceful deposing of his South African mirror image Jacob Zuma we can only hope that the Reps grow some balls and actually stop brown-nosing Trump and come up with a different candidate that isn't going to start a nuclear war over twitter. Either that or they deserve to lose every seat possible in the midterms (wouldn't that be nice?).
-
Sometimes I wish you could tag people via @username to ping a user in a relevant post. Feels like it might be a blessing and a curse depending on how it would be used in a forum setting.
-
So if I was wanting to get a non-invasive thumbnail, does the TDM site support BBcode for that? Trying and keeps saying it's not allowed on the site.
-
Has anybody had much luck not having random graphical glitches occur while using, mirrorRenderMap? Besides referencing the player position it just doesn't like to actually reference surrounding scenes correctly.
-
Well this sucks... I've used Photobucket for years and now you have to pay to allow other sites to view img links. All I gotta say is F%ck these guys, anybody else have a recommended permanent image hosting service?

Google photos suck at sharing, posting image in the forum is a right PITA. Like Sotha I use imgr.

Tumblr is pretty good for this.

It always makes me laugh when a company gets so big and then decides that the way the Internet works, (which got them where they are) is no longer convenient for them. They then try to break standard functionality, in the hopes of driving up profits or gaining subscriptions, but in reality they just push people, even existing happy users, away.

Is there a way to encrypt pk4s? Because it would be a really great option if they could be.

Holy crap, 39 comments? That's got to be a record.
Nobody wants to make this a thread?

Never said I'd get in the way of good time!

So I was wondering, who runs the TDM twitter account these days?

Nope, it was created by New Horizon as I recall?

NSA

Twitter gets some good press on it's own if managed right. It's a shame ours has been neglected.

Pardon my accidental status botch I somehow deleted the last post by mistake. Otherwise that's what I figured. Probably not any good way of retrieving those either.
-
A good reason to upload and embed the images, perhaps, rather than merely link.
-
Imageshack may still have the files - they can be requested: https://imageshack.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200841220-Can-I-restore-images-
-
It may be that the articles are just really old (or now outdated) but I'd been seeing this a lot with the mover articles.
-
Many are very out-dated, but I have archived doom3world tutorials that work in TDM through use of wayback archive (eg, https://web.archive.org/web/20121013012243/http://www.doom3world.org:80/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=1). This is my primary resource for scripting and using movers / nurbs / etc...
It might be worth taking a full snapshot of TDM wiki using wayback machine, as deep as it will go - if it wasn't for 2012 doom3world snapshots, much information on these subjects would be...

This page has proven invaluable: https://web.archive.org/web/20130320004109/http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3017

I'd been telling a couple people but ya'll need to check out the Dark Reader browser app if you wants the darker pages. Works flawless on 80% of the sites I see and can easily revert back and store which sites I exclude. Pretty handy, and great for long nights.
-
I can't believe I'm strongly considering copying the shadow mtr reference just to rename it. If only it just used underscores instead...

the majority of material names use slashes. What program has a problem with that?
-
Maybe it helps to use Notepad++ and its auto replace feature in files? I don't know for sure though
-
Since I don't have the luxury of using Lightwave for native lwo format, Softimage has some strange tendencies like replacing unknown symbols (and spaces) with underscores. Ordinarily that's fine because I never actually list names as file paths. I already have to re-export lwo files to correct smoothing with Blender but it just adds another unneeded step when I have to correct the materials too. This time it's really not an issue with TDM as much as it is with my software and prop...

I just came to the conclusion at 4am that I tend to (nearly always) make a glowing skin for my models. Don't ask for glowing trees, you know I'll do it!
-
What I would give to have efficient working lightmaps in TDM.

Ah yeah I do vaguely remember the Strombine technique. I think my other method I was thinking of (going off the modeler deep end) is vertex painting darkness into obscure portions of the map.
-
Even if it was just for brushwork it would be a tremendous leap to have lightmaps or be able to flag lightmaps on select pieces.
-
BTW, the decal method I suggested: https://web.archive.org/web/20090106143119/http://www.fuzzpopfx.com/tutorials/doom3/

Hey guys, anybody like to do a bit of lounging around and general multiplayer stuff on Steam? I know we are all mostly on different time zones but I figured it'd be fun to do some fun bits online.

We seriously need a pinned page with all this info crammed in there or something. I didn't realize anyone actually ran with the whole chatroom thing after we talked about it.

Do you have a link to this, "Biker-room"?

For anyone else curious, https://discord.gg/0pXtSX7AX7mBRin6 should be valid for 24 hours from now.
