  1. Keep in mind too it's a game like Outcast where you run and hide for the entire game, you aren't able to fight back or use any kind of weapons at all. For some people, the scare and horror factor goes way up when the ability defined yourself is removed.
  2. Speaking of the Amnesia guys, their new game, SOMA, will be out next Tuesday. Very much looking forward to it.
  3. Playing through Gehenna now - Talos Principle is probably my favorite game from the past two years.
  4. Never been a fan of character switching, just because it doesn't make a lot of sense within the confines of the gameworld, and kills immersion. But I suppose depending on how creative the devs are, they could come up with a logical scenario where it could work. I would think any gamer who is anything more than a casual or mobile gamer certainly has heard of Dishonored. It sold well and was published by the same company that made Skyrim and Fallout. As far as TTLGers now working at Arkane goes, there's Digital Nightfall, but Purah (of Calendra fame) was the first. Most recently, HipBreaker (Breaking The Stone, Eclipsed) started there earlier this year.
  5. Tbh, I think I'm just going to return the thing thru Newegg. Running the diagnostic last night, I was only getting 7 MB/s on the sequential read test, which is crazy awful. Games have been taking forever to load.
  6. @Biker, did you ever get your 840 EVO working properly? I've applied firmware changes and used the Magician for what I could, but it doesn't appear anything has changed.
  7. I just picked up the previous Death to Spies games in a recent Steam Sale. They're fun, but pretty much straight up Hitman clones.
  8. All those missions mentioned on Dark Fate are also announced on TTLG. I keep a running list here of all recent Thief FMs, complete with TTLG and download links.
  9. The thought is that the "fact sheet' is/was a fake. it states the game will take place in Tyvia, which is in the far northwest of Dishonored's world. The E3 announcement today states the opposite, that the game will take place in Serkonos, which is in the south. They've also stated no multiplayer. So really the only thing it got right was "new main character." And then it says "Annihilate The Outsider." WTF? Sounds like the person who wrote that might have some issues with translating to English. That and all the strange placing of hyphens.. I'm guessing someone was having some fun.
  10. Great game. I usually stick to first person games only, but this felt enough like Thief that I could overlook the 3rd person. There's supposedly a sequel in the works.
  11. @bassmanret - Not to beat a dead horse, but it's pretty obvious from your most recent post on TTLG that you have some type of a grudge with TDM. Not sure why, IMO there's no reason TDM and Thief can't co-exist. I never got the impression from anyone here that TDM was ever trying to "replace" Thief, ever. That's something you've manufactured in your mind.
  12. Steam may have killed the secondhand market, but it more than makes up for it with it's frequent sales. I have over 300 games in my library, and I've paid full price for very few of those, maybe 10%.
  13. Interesting stuff, thanks Biker. I didn't realize that SSDs could be "fixed" like this. I'll update tonight with the most recent firmware and see if it makes a difference. I've been trying to play GTA5 recently and I've been having freezes and textures not loading, so hopefully this will correct it.
  14. I'm using Windows 8.1. The drive is a Samsung 840 Evo, 250GB.
  15. I have an SSD hard drive that I bought last year, strictly for installing games on. In the last month or two, loading times seem to have increased drastically, and I've been getting some freezes on a few newer games I've played. I've already checked my RAM using MemTest. What's the best (hopefully free) program to use for checking hard drive integrity?
  16. Just curious, but in your opinion, what do you think the reason(s) is/are for Dromeders not migrating to DR, or even just FM players not showing more enthusiasm for TDM FMs? I get the feeling you have a theory.
  17. Just saw this game is half off on Steam right now, FYI.
  18. Err... I have no idea what you're getting at here. Styx, Batman, and The Witcher are about as 3rd person as 3rd person gets! How can a 3rd person game play like 1st person? Btw, Witcher 3 is not out until the end of May.
  19. Batman Arkham Knight and The Witcher are not first person games. There's a bunch of decent first person survival games out right now, although beware, they are in Early Access. The Long Dark, The Forest, Salt, and Stranded Deep come to mind. And of course there's always Day Z. The Talos Principle is supposed to be a pretty good puzzler. Guessing you've played some or most of these: Fry Cry 3/4, Alien Isolation, Outlast, Dishonored, DXHR, Dying Light, Dead Island, Amnesia, Penumbra, etc. Couple of good indie titles - Miasmata, Ether One, Vanishing of Ethan Carter...

    Thief 4

How do you figure? Maybe I'm being naive, but it would seem logical that games that seek out crowdfunding likely lack a publisher or any type of large corporate backing, at least initially. How do Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, and even Kingdom Come not fit into that mold?

    Thief 4

Everyone will have their own definitions, but I think as long as you aren't reporting and accountable to businessmen (i.e. non creatives) in a large corporation, or a publisher, you can be considered indie. The project should be self-inclusive, meaning everything cost wise is directly related to the production of the game itself. The size of the game and the number of people working on it shouldn't be a factor.

    Thief 4

Agree with Morat - it seems the bigger a project gets, the more generic (and boring) the game becomes. Call it selling out, appealing to the masses, whatever. Thief 4 was the epitome of this - it was a bunch of ideas rolled together from other games like Assassin's Creed and Dishonored (among others), but nothing unique in and of itself. A very forgettable game, despite the pretty visuals. I thought Summer made some great points above as well. The Architect's Manor was such a disappointment once you got inside, I think there were a total of like 5 rooms between the two floors. Not exactly a 'mansion romp." And I don't think a single mission asked you simply to return to your starting point when done - they all had to end with the bang of some escape sequence or crazy chaotic collapsing structure scenario.
  23. I love some of the non-city (exotic?) locations for Thief Gold - The Bonehoard, The Lost City, The Mage Towers, The Maw of Chaos, etc. These are some the types of locations I'd really like to see in TDM. Ones where the protagonist is pulled away from civilization and ends up in some dark, lonely, remote place.
  24. It's interesting that he felt he had to "try" to be nice on these forums. As if it was a struggle. It indicates there was acrimony before he even logged on. Some people are gonna be like that, I guess, but I still say the larger majority of Thief fans are absolutely 100% on board with everything TDM.
  25. I'm a little late to the party here but...don't worry, no one has forgotten about TDM. I think the simple fact that the original question referenced playing as Garrett, which is a no-no in TDM missions, implies the original poster was speaking exclusively about Thief FMs. It's really not even an option in TDM. I tend to think some of the TDM "staff" here is a little paranoid about being neglected. Was it really necessarily to post a giant TDM logo in that thread? Don't worry, 90% of Thief players are very aware of TDM and play just about every mission that is released.
