  4. So apparently the new Thief has "context-sensitive controls that mean you can only jump when the game says you can jump." what the hell?!

      Im hoping that this is for consoles only since the demo at E3 was played on PS4.

      If the players are jumping too much, put down more metal and marble floors. Anyway, fuck this new breed of casualized game designers.

      if its broke already it cannot be fixed. imagine trying to implement jumping with mantling in ocarina of time halfway through dev. absolutely impossible without complete level redesign. this is not going away.

  5. It's interesting watching how your FM develops over time. At first I had this really simple idea of just a house & then I started adding on other ideas. Now I have an entire city mapped out, and when you start building it branches off even further, it feels like you are able to take your imagination and translate it into a 3D explorable world. Very cool! Mapping is so much fun :)

      It's funny, I've actually expanded my FM quite a lot because I felt the plot would be too rushed if I didn't. So it goes both ways :-). I definitely agree w/ bringing at least one section to completion. I've been making my FM scene-by-scene, and I started out by taking one small starting section and buffing it to a polished shine (w/ Biker's help).

  6. Hahaha love it! I'm not sure which Assassins Creed title that is but I purchased Assassins Creed 2 from the store and brought it home, installed it and then had all of those lovely issues. Also my internet dropped out at one point kicking me out of my single player game just after I finished a rather tough battle and then lost my progress I had the same problem playing Diablo 3, I thought it was strange that you can be "logged out" of your single player session if you pause the game, get up and go make something to eat and grab a drink, come back then you're greeted with crap like that. I mean if they want to impose these restrictions on multiplayer (as long as it isn't too strict) then so be it but for the Single Player experience leave it alone I say! I own all of the Thief games (hell I think I have bought them multiple times over the years due to loosing discs) and also I have bought Oblivion and Skyrim, all are strictly single player games with pretty much no DRM and it's fantastic! I will always support light to no drm games over DRM packed games. I assume this opinion echos throughout most of the gaming community. Reading the new Sim City amazon reviews is definitely proof of that as well.
  7. I am REALLY curious to see how this plays out. But it's funny because I "downloaded" Max Payne 3 for the DRM reason and I booted it up.. finished it in a couple of days and had no problems, yet you.. the paying customer has to go through all this shit.
  8. I'm really tempted to give this a try as a museum sounds really cool! But waiting for the final product would be more rewarding in the end...
  9. I too have wondered why we cant get transparent windows without the lag but basically until we hit 2.0 we can't do it right? Because we need those cubemaps? I'm guess why in other games such as say Skyrim when you enter a house you have a loading screen and can only see the inside of the house and to leave is the same solution.

  11. Basically it's a courtyard with archers and because they have a better vantage point I want them to see further. But I guess for now I will just leave it as it is and worry about tweaking that later.
  12. How do you increase the range an AI will see the player and then attack them? my AI is an archer btw

  14. So I have a bevelled corner which is connected to a footpath however I can't seem to figure out how to fill in the top part of here. I attached a picture of the problem. Is there some super secret squirrel technique to do this?

  16. Grayman took a look at the map and gave me a few pointers which solved the problem. This is my first time doing an outdoor area and it is obviously a whole different ball of wax compared to indoor buildings. Basically I just needed to convert each of the cube bits into func_static or rather I converted whole walls of them. Then I added a monster clip between the wall and the skybox and voilà problem solved

  18. I figured out what was causing it to crash. It's these cubes I built and for whatever reason they cause the crash
  19. I removed all the brushes that seem to be overlapping and I still get crashes in Doom. It just gives me an error that reads "Doom has stopped responding" it seems to go through the whole dmap process but after it's done thats when it crashes. I don't know what are the important parts of the log file but the last bit which looks like a summary to me is here:

  21. Everytime I dmap my mission Dark Mod crashes. I tried looking for a log file but couldn't find one. Where are the log files usually kept?

  23. (I know I sound like a complete newbie here but) I don't know what the means, how would I find it out? And the specs I guess on paper aren't too bad it's mostly just the overheating issues it really craps out once anything too intensive starts happening and it gets really really choppy. I bought a special laptop fan but that only mildly helps the problem.
  24. Intel I5-2450M 2.5GHz AMD Radeon HD 6800M and the ram I am not sure because it is shared between everything. All I know is this laptop can barely run Skyrim and it overheats like crazy which causes games to stutter, slow down and eventually my whole laptop reboots. With the darkmod most missions are ok however the average FPS is pretty meh and doesn't really feel like a smooth playthrough. *sigh* I really need a better PC like an actual desktop PC. Laptops just don't do games well :/
