    Dark Souls

Dark Souls was amazing to play, I've got about 450 hours in that! Dark Souls 2 is even better and this is before any DLC or any major patches. I wouldn't say you have to spend a lot of time playing this. It's mainly a singleplayer game, but you can co-op and PvP is a weird part of it you get used to. You can put steam in offline mode, if you get tired of it though or burn a Human Effigy at a bonfire to disable invasions and summons for that area. It's all about playing it in your own style and have fun with that. What takes people a lot of time is to realize that there's a lot going on behind the numbers and stats. I'd strongly recommend using a wiki page to read the soft and hard caps of basic stats and how they affect your character. There's so much behind the curtains that you don't "need" to know, but definitely will help you. PRAISE THE SUN!!
  2. Being a Diablo fan, the gameplay attracted me though It's gotta be different from Diablo. I'm hoping to see more depth to the game, during development.
  3. Hey found this thing apparently in development called "World War Machine". http://youtu.be/UzJCiEvgE-4 I think it's still very early production, but I really like the story idea so far: "World War Machine takes place after a cataclysmic mass extinction event has decimated all forms of organic life on Earth. Before the end of civilization, millions of human beings were able to upload their minds into a vast computer network – transforming themselves into artificial intellects. The remains of our planet are now populated solely by these intellects and machines of their creation. During the cataclysm, the computer network that worked to maintain millions of uploaded human minds was shattered – breaking into three major Nodes and countless smaller ones. Each Node continued running its own group of intellects, though their minds were flawed by the damage. Operating on corrupted hardware, these intellects have been divorced from their memories of humanity and the goals for which they were created. With their minds broken and spread across multiple platforms, the artificial intellects fell into chaos and a perpetual war erupted between the three main network nodes. The battles that rage through the sterilized ruins of human civilization are fought by hundreds of thousands of Machines – humanoid robots outfitted for various tasks of war, each imbued with an artificial intellect from a parent Node. If destroyed, the Machine transmits its intellect back for reconstitution in another Machine. The fight continues, and the war will never end. Countless battles have been planned and fought by viciously clever intellects who are entrenched on well defended Mainline Nodes, blind to their own madness. This war has been fought for over five hundred years in perfect equilibrium with no end in sight . . . . . . until one day, a lone Machine remembers." Check out their site, they got a bunch of cool concept art like this
  4. Yeah, I'm making one with "Deathblade2014"(I really hate that name), but it's not likely to be done anytime soon as work and other projects are keeping this one at a very slow and inconsistent pace. I can however assure you that it went through hell of a grind back in December/January and the overlay of the map is done though, so the hardest part is over. I could share a bunch of screenshots of the process, but I don't want to do spoilers and teasers until I know I can deliver something.
  5. @Esme Thanks man, glad you had enough fun for a revisit @Nbohr I could get it to work, but there was a re-route of some sort :S Updated the direct link in topic though. Yeah Bikerdude updated the ingame mirrors back at the update. Just tested and got the latest version.
  6. Hey Esme, glad that you're enjoying it and I hope that's the only bug you manage to find Though that one slipped through my fingers, I wont be doing more updates unless future changes to the game force me to. Still, thanks for letting me know!
  7. When I played BS:I, I was just absolutely blown away by the graphics. The style and design is amazing and glad to hear the DLC holds up. Only other game I've played where I really feel rewarded for buying DLC, is Borderlands 2. The only thing keeping me from replaying Inifinite, the toggle crouch/aim/sprint. I feel the finger cramps already just thinking about it
  8. Yeah I only go for brands I trust when it comes to hardware. My friend is expert at dealing with warranties though, so I'm not worried about him losing money.
  9. Nah man, I agree that the 4K monitors are massive overkill and will be too expensive, whereas the 2560 monitors are already affordable and will drop in a few months and you can run games in native with your current card. However that will be without AA enabled, which on the upside won't be as essential as it is with current monitors. Btw my friend actually ordered this one yesterday, I'll let you know how it performs. I advised him against getting it now, but he's likely to get it refunded anyway. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111258830737?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  10. I've got a Samsung SyncMaster 2233 in 1680x1050 too, and though it's a nice monitor I've also been very happy with since I got it, the aspect is a bit bothersome 16:10, it's got 3 MS delay and poor viewing angles. However to me upgrading to 1920x1080 isn't significant enough an upgrade to go for, even though BenQ got some excellent monitors for that range at some fantastic prices. GTX670 is also a very nice card though, but you're right that it will be tested on higher resolutions. A 4K monitor in native would for instance require 2 780GTX to run most modern games in native with good performance. In my opinion 4K monitors sounds awesome, but they are a massive overkill for common users. I think the 2560 monitors are where it's at and as for pixel density I think 2560 on 27" is a good very ratio increase compared to my 1680 on 22". Again for me, upgrading would be with resolution, size, update rate, color depth and delay in mind. All of which can be achieved with a current BenQ monitor, but it's all just step forward, where in a few months the 2560 monitors will be miles ahead on all and more.
  11. Indeed, AA is the currently best way of simulating a sharp, clear picture on lower resolutions by getting rid of the jagged pixel staircases. With higher resolutions you could do completely without AA, as it will be very difficult to see pixels at 2560x1440. Obviously the size of the monitor should be regarded. MSAA and especially SSAA is almost always been a more expensive way of clearing a picture, than going up in resolution. Seeing as most modern monitors have a native resolution they need to be in, to have an optimal picture, you usually go for the highest resolution(native) first and apply AA methods after to enhance the quality, depending on left over performance. With that in mind, I'd imagine the new high-res monitors will somewhat obsolete AA, giving you room to put your extra performance elsewhere. But you're right, some of these monitors are extremely overpriced and that's because right now they are all fighting for cornering the market for the new tech, while promising everything and happiness. Over the past 3-4 months a lot has happened on this topic and I imagine it's gonna continue to storm with announcements for a few more months, before prices will land in a steady range. It's only ever worth waiting for hardware when it's a leap forward from the previous standards and the new monitors are definitely a big leap. Personally I think hardware wise, a smart purchase is one that doesn't bottleneck the next upgrade. If it's a matter of budget then patience can be a challenge, though it gives more motivation to research the market further.
  12. I'd highly recommend holding out a few months with buying any monitor. There's a lot happening in the development end of both 140hz 2560x1440 27" monitors and the 4K monitors. Right now a lot of the manufacturers claim to have them ready but a lot also get their panels from Samsung, who are more known for quality and durability. ASUS tried getting ahead of the curve, by early announcing their 2560x1440 monitor for gaming, but they keep delaying it as it's most likely just them trying to get attention in the market. So I'd recommend waiting a few months until the first versions have been out for common users and properly reviewed and until Samsung or BenQ come out with their own quality assured monitors.
  13. I found this btw: http://dayzintel.com/dayz-standalone/dayz-standalone-performance-guide I used the command lines and a few select tweaks from that one for really good results performance wise. I was able to get my 120hz refresh rate too, in the .ini file. Worth a look for sure.
  14. Depends, I've got 26 hours in the game before the patch. To each is own.
  15. Sweet! The audio is by far where this game has fallen short, ruining the immersion when you're getting really into it. Well that and the occasional "I'm gonna swoop around that crate!" and then Garrett goes "lol nope vault into the open bro!". Taking my time playing it though, so I've only just done The Manor. Might be worth revisiting a few places with the audio fixed.
  16. Using a BSOD reader I get results in all directions, so does anyone have experience with hal.dll BSODs?

Done scans and diagnostics a while ago, all came back negative :) Wherever the error is, the system can't pinpoint it, so I have to do it by patience as the BSOD is inconsistent

Which program are you using to read the dump files from your BSODs? I use NirSoft Bluescreenview myself, usually manages to highlight all the offending files in a BSOD situation.

Yeah same here, a bit annoying thing to worry about. Last one I had was 1 month ago then 2 within a day where only one left a dump file, so it will take some time to figure out

  17. Well as I said the settings doesn't really effect my FPS, so I was more hoping there was some magic in some configs to be found. The health meter thing is a good point though, as I currently have PP off because I don't like Depth of Field. I'll go check their forums and browse for something
  18. Anyone who can recommend a performance tweak guide for it? I get mediocre FPS regardless of settings. Citys are worse for sure, but I don't think the game is performing optimally(No suprise though).
  19. They probably already know these guidelines, but when everything falls apart mid production, it's gonna take more than a guide to piece it back together. For anyone who hasn't read it and who struggle with managing what time they have, when making a FM, I think this one is loaded with "rule of thumps".
  20. My partner in nerd-crime, "Deathblade2014" (God I hate that name so much...), linked me a blog he thought to be an interesting read. He was right and a lot of good wisdom to pick in this presentation/article/blog, so I'm gonna pass it on to you guys: http://www.gdcvault....Design-in-a-Day "Huge, open world games like Skyrim and Fallout 3 demand a great deal of development talent, and can be daunting to plan and create - especially when subject to the constant and often unpredictable flux of a game in development. This level design oriented talk will share insights into the iterative approach used at Bethesda Game Studios to help their level design team plan, implement, test and polish massive amounts of content. The talk will also discuss how this approach allows the team to maintain their staff without having to hire and fire at the whims of the project cycle."
