Have you played Endless Rain? You should play Endless Rain!

To Quote Slyfox "I stood in the start spot for five minutes just soaking it all in. I felt the rain on my head, the grit of the cobble stones, sniffed the smoke from a hundred chimneys. THIS is why we're all still here after so many years. So chock full 'o thiefy goodness!"
-
I didn't realize you were speaking about Skacky's mission?!?! I've been looking forward to this for awhile.
-
Ha. Turned on HDR and had worse FPS than TDM. Had to fiddle quite a bit to compromise between visuals and performance.
-
Started a Veteran Xenonauts campaign, entire landing party wiped out on first mission. Eeep.

Xenonauts for depth, X-COM Enemy Unknown if you haven't got much time to put into it.
"AUTORESOLVE (100% VICTORY)" ... [engage manually] ... "SIGNAL LOST, HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO FAIL THAT, SERIOUSLY, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU"
-
Can't comment on Enemy Unknown, but Xenonauts is very faithful to the original UFO. It has a slightly slower tech creep and less terrain destruction, but otherwise, very close.
You can also try OpenXcom, which ports UFO to new hardware and adds a ton of options on the top.
-
I spent a lot of time in the Summer playing OpenXcom.

I get the following error message when loading the wiki: " Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/tdmwiki/public_html/includes/objectcache/SqlBagOStuff.php on line 195" Anyone confirm?
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
Yes. And some pages also give me the error: Fatal error: Call to a member function numRows() on a non-object in /home/tdmwiki/public_html/includes/objectcache/SqlBagOStuff.php on line 439
-
I see about five of those lines at the top of the page and then the rest of the wiki loads. ctrl-F5 doesn't fix it for me.
-
it something to do with updating php on a server but leaving the old settings for previous version which are not compatible with the new php version.

John Romero is about to make you his bitch... again! Suck it down! http://www.joystiq.com/2014/08/11/john-romero-i-havent-made-a-shooter-since-2000-so/

A lot of games fail due to incompetent designers or bad project management. I mean, John got his ass handed to him, and was relegated to making mobile games for, what, fourteen years now? The man has paid his dues.
-
The Looking Glas developers laid off probably think otherwise. But yeah, 14 years mobile game developmentis cruel
-
All granted, but he's already a walking punchline. I don't know whether to look forward his game or not, but I still find that sheepish smile & shrug funny. He's yesterday's news and knows it. He's not trying to deny it.

While I was cleaning up sectoids, ethereals, mutons and all the other nasties, the US quietly went over to the side of the aliens and cut off my funding. Thanks guys!

X-COM: UFO to be exact. Addictive stuff.
-
Noo! You let the alien inflitration mission to succeed!
Rule number one: Always protect your largest funders!
-
...and now I've also got a base full of freaking ethereals under my nose. Oh good!

Solarix, the SS2-like indie stealth game now has a Kickstarter! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kissltd/solarix

Awesome.
-
Looked so... Rough. I hope they get to complete it though.
-
I read that as "SSX 2-like indie stealth game" and got all excited about snowboard stealth.

Running Spybot on your PC is always a bit like seeing a beautiful apple, and then realising it is crawling with worms and bugs. Amazing how much stuff accumulates even if you are careful.
- Show previous comments 1 more
-
I use malwarebytes but the last time I ran it, it also found nothing and it had been 6mo. or so since I'd run it.
-
Both Spybot and Malwarebytes are not required if you have descent branded AV and are careful. I did a scan and what it found was next to to pointless, some flash objects and a cookies.
-
Considering Steam's webpage got nailed not too long ago, you can't "be careful" when even legit sites can become attack vectors.

Looks like I have just won this baby: http://erawatch.jrc.ec.europa.eu/erawatch/opencms/information/country_pages/hu/supportmeasure/support_mig_0022

Stupendous!

Congrats!

Good work!

Xenonauts. Xenonauts Xenonauts Xenonauts, Xenonauts. Xenonauts.

Nice to see that gem still worked on. I played the originals through just a year or two ago.
-
Confirmed: Xenonaut is thoroughly addictive.
-
I really enjoyed Ufo:Aftermath an Aftershock. It is one of those games where you want to save/load after every shot. In Enemy Unknown you had to end mission, skip summary screen, and go to main menu to load if something went wrong. A bit too painful.
-
Can anyone recommend a free OCR program? I need to find stuff in a huge scanned PDF document.

Paste the results in your editor, spell check, then do a manual check. Work is work.
-
Thanks, folks!

If you have Microsoft One Note installed you could maybe screenshot the .pdf pages and then drag them in to One Note and "copy text from picture"

Yeah, me too. I can only nap if I'm drunk

been there, done that.

There so much I want to do when I finish my job like work in DR and go to the gym but I'm just so busy at work that when I get home I just fall on the sofa and pass out. I barely have time to post on ye olde forum these days. I make sure I drop by at least once a day though and I really want to finish my map before the year finishes.

Back from organising an international conference. Whew. Fun, but exhausting.

Thank you, Melan. I hope everything went well

Sotha: That was just the list of presentations - we held the roundtable in a beer garden due to the good weather, had a reception in the evening, and a field trip the next day. Lotsa stuff.
Vae: That's really for the guests to say... but they seemed happy enough, so...
-
I don't know how it was over there, or if you even got one, but coach hire in the UK was an absolute nightmare. They're such money grabbers, and all miserable as anything.
-
Brussels: Every museum was closed except for the Cantillon Brewery. Wonderful place, and they serve the *real* stuff.

It's dirty, run down and full of thuggish behaviour... you weren't walking around snapping pics for prefabs why???
-
As a matter of fact... I'll post the best ones.

ahhh yeah

What to do in Brussels on a rainy Monday? (1. Beer 2. Fries and mussels 3. ????)

A second round of food and alcohol.

So what happened to Komag's site?

I might have to drop some $$ to get a copy of his DVD's then.
-
He stopped the DVD service long ago. There's a torrent for it all now.

The game gets a bit challenging when you have the Goat Queen helmet, the jetpack and become the Devil goat.

Will get old fast...Just a silly flash in the pan.

I think that's all it was ever supposed to be, it started as a joke game to train new team members on an engine, and after someone put out a video of it online, the internet exploded and demanded they make it a game, even though they didn't want to initially.

The Art of Trolling: now available in PDF! http://www.library.unh.edu/digital/object/digital:00012

Not Quite There Yet, But The FPS Is Decreasing In A Satisfying Way. 850 Brushes!

BTW, I finished the weekend at 1008 brushes. .) It is good to get out of burnout.
-
And it looks ery pretty too, sorta Skacky T1 city feel to it.
-
I admit to that inspiration. Sperry's design style was another source, I think.

Every story has its beginning. Mine has 167 brushes.

What does the brushcounter say now?

The same. I am not a fast builder nowadays.

well I will be helping with that in due course ;-)

I went with King Arthur's Gold instead. It seems pretty damn cool so far.

I'll admit I was a bit too abraisive with the comment, but still he doesnt exactly seem like a nice person to me for various reasons, some of which can be seen here: http://4playernetwork.com/static/media/uploads/Developers/Polytron/sh1CZqk.png

MacD11 sure, man. My point is still: there are people who ignore it when they get bashed online, then there are people who bite back... He's the latter type. Like it or not he's at least not afraid to say what he's thinking. Bluntly, apparently. xD People have ruthlessly attacked him for this very reason too, which I just find absurd because combine a person with a short temper with a bunch of "internetizens". It's gonna get heated quickly.

Any new missions coming for Halloween or thereabouts?

Well Gold, Moonbo and myself are trying to get a map out, but no promises.

A coop effort??! ... sound like we're up for sth. cool! :-)

Nope, but I'm contributing some hanged corpses, which fits the theme, I suppose.

The joy of Steam: can't play Deus Ex: HR without a net connection since the saves are stored on their cloud. Yaaaaay.
- Show previous comments 12 more
-
With the connection on my main PC restored, the saves work again. Still.
-
What NH said. Man.
-
They're not only stored in the cloud, they are saved locally and then mirrored to the cloud. Start steam in offline mode and play it that way.
