  1. Mortem: When trying to get gas arrows in another mission the console was giving me this message:

    usage: spawn classname [key/value pairs]

    What does this mean?

    Thanks,

    Shadowwalker

P.S. I forgot to say that I was using the same command I used in another mission, Outpost, but no results this time:

    I typed: spawn atdm:ammo_gasarrow_inv_ammo_amount 50

I kept the screen upwards and when finished, shut off the console and looked for the arrows on the ground but couldn't find them this time.

Thanks for any pointers on what I'm doing wrong still.

  3. All that message means is that it loaded the physics collision box for the gas arrow. It doesn't say "warning" and it doesn't say "ERROR" so don't worry about it. (bytheway, that's an LWO file: a lightwave model.)

And you did spawn an arrow. But they appear on the ground at feet level, with just the head peeking above the surface. Try looking upwards towards the sky before typing the command (so they're not buried as deep in the ground).

    Mortem Destino:

Thanks for the pointer. I did that and found my arrow(s). Is there a way to recall a command without having to retype it in all the time?

    Thanks,

Thank you, Mortem. I will look up at the sky before I get the console going and typing commands in, if that's what you mean.

Another question regarding how many cheats can a player have at one time? I am guessing one has to choose between more weapons or being unkillable as in god mode. Would this be correct or not?

    Thanks

  5. When I typed the spawn command in and and used the ENTER key to enter it into the system, I received the following msg: 'loaded Collision model models/darkmod/weapons/gasarrow. wo'

There was an up and down pipe between the period after 'gasarrow and the 'wo' letters. I was unable to find this pipe on my keyboard so I just put a space there where the pipe was.

I don't know what this message means but I received no arrows when back into the game.

  6. I just discovered a neat trick. Turns out you can supply custom spawnarg settings to spawn. This means you can spawn a whole bunch of arrows at once rather than having to spawn individual arrows many times:

    spawn atdm:ammo_broadhead inv_ammo_amount 50

Works with all TDM arrow types. Note that most (all?) TDM weapons have a maximum ammo count of 50.

Thank you for this info. Did it work for you? When typed in, do you press ENTER or some other key to leave the console and leave the command intact?

    thanks,

  7. Hello Crispy:

I note that you have the word 'spawn' in red letters on a yellow background before typing the 'atdm:' and the desired weapon in black on the white background. On the computer in the console mode, how is this done? Or is it necessary?

Just curious as to how to make various weapons available during gameplay.

    Thanks,

    shadowwalker

Crispy: Strange. When I posted this and came back to view it, there were no colors present in the 'spawn' command which is how your list appeared on my computer. If this was a peculiar way my computer displayed it, please disregard my comment on it.

  8. Glad you like it!

Personally I prefer to play without cheats (more fun and satisfying that way!), but here are some console commands worthy of the name "cheats":

notarget - Makes AI ignore you.

Weapon spawning: (Only one at a time, and it gets spawned in the world in front of you so you have to pick it up; if you can't find them, try looking upwards a bit more.)

    spawn atdm:weapon_blackjack

    spawn atdm:weapon_shortsword

    spawn atdm:ammo_broadhead

    spawn atdm:ammo_firearrow

    spawn atdm:ammo_gasarrow

    spawn atdm:ammo_mossarrow

    spawn atdm:ammo_noisemaker

    spawn atdm:ammo_ropearrow

    spawn atdm:ammo_waterarrow

Most/all other Doom 3 cheats also work.

  9. You can't give yourself masses of 100 arrows, unfortunately, but you can "spawn" them one-by-one. (To quickly recall the last console command, use the UP arrow key)

I'm not at my regular PC for the moment, but I believe the names go...

    atdm:weapon_shortsword

    atdm:weapon_blackjack

    atdm:weapon_broadhead

    atdm:weapon_firearrow

    atdm:weapon_waterarrow

    atdm:weapon_ropearrow

    atdm:weapon_mossarrow

    atdm:weapon_noisemaker

    atdm:weapon_gasarrow

    atdm:playertools_flashbomb

    atdm:playertools_spyglass

    atdm:playertools_compass

    atdm:playertools_health_potion

    atdm:playertools_breath_potion

    atdm:playertools_holywater

    Mortem:

Thanks for the command listing but when I tried some of them the console didn't recognize them. I guess I'll have to wait for the DM Version 1.01 to come out and then find out if the console behavior is any better.

    Thanks and happy Thanksgiving

  10. "Give all" is vanilla d3 code to give you stuff like weapon_shotgun, weapon_pistol. You'll have to "spawn atdm:weapon_shortsword" (def?) and the like. It'll appear in front of you at foot level.

If this is for mapmaking, Fidcal's startpack has a box of placeholder weapons (say, 30 of all arrows, flashbombs) you can put into your WIP for testing purposes; just delete before releasing.

Hello, Mortem: To begin with, my experience with computer technicalities is modest at best. I am not a mapper but I can type commands on the console command line area.

Looking at your example, I imagine myself at the console command line and would type the following:

"spawn atdm:weapon_arrows_broadhead_100, weapon_arrows_water_100" providing these were in the "Items for sale" list, or so I think it goes.

Would this example work for me in the game?

Thanks for any guidance and happy Thanksgiving

  11. The console itself comes up and when I type in the god mode, all works well. However, when I type in the 'give all' command, it is supposed to give unlimited items, like the soldier in 'Doom 3' gets all the weapons the game has but when I type that command in the Dark Mod, I get only the number of weapons, arrows, that are present when I thought I would get an unlimited supply. Is this a flaw in DM that needs to be corrected or is this the way the 'give all' command works in the DM?

    Thanks for any feedback

  12. Did you merely download the .torrent file, or did you use a BitTorrent client to actually download the whole 1.4 GB? Just having the .torrent file by itself won't do you any good. It's just a tiny little file that tells a BitTorrent client how to get the rest of the files.

Given the level of inexperience you're displaying, I don't know that I'd recommend using BitTorrent, it might be a little beyond you.

What you really need to do is tell us what the problem is. Imagine if you went to your doctor and said "hey, doctor, something isn't quite right with my body" and then refused to give any further information. Do you think you'd get very good medical help? I don't think so! :)

Computers are the same. You need to tell us exactly what is "not working", and in what way it's not working. Everything you did and everything that happened (or failed to happen) in response. As much information as you can possibly provide. Not just "didn't work, give me more help".

The quality and quantity of the help we can provide is directly related to the quality and quantity of the information you give us.

    Crispy:

Your observations about my computer experience is correct. It's quite modest but I do the best I can with it.

Between the time we last exchanged correspondence, I have been working, off and on, on getting the Dark Mod to work and I finally have! Yes, I persevered with TDM, and finally realized success with it, I think it was yesterday and have been running the Training Mission to get the feel of how the game operates. The graphics are tremendous and it has been well worth the effort.

But I have run into a problem: Since the Training Mission is already there with the game, I have wanted to get the four additional missions but have no idea how to get the TDM to detect them so I can make use of them. I have looked for directions on how to do this but cannot find any.

Would you have any ideas on how I can get to use the four additional missions?

I should add that I have dragged and dropped these missions into a desktop folder simply called 'New Folder' which is where they still are.

Thanks, and thank you for your patience with me.

  13. You might want to be a bit more specific. Just saying "it didn't work that way" doesn't give much information to the people who might want to help you. Did you actually try downloading using the torrent?

I downloaded the torrent successfully. Now there's supposed to be a 'tdlauncher'? Where does that come in and how do I access it?

    Thanks,

    shadowwalker

  14. OK, forgive me if I'm wrong, but if I'm interpreting you correctly then you're reasonably new to folder hierarchies (and manipulating and organising files on a computer in general). Am I right? (If I'm wrong, then please be more specific about your problem.)

So, tiny step by tiny step, assuming you already have Doom 3 purchased, installed and patched to v1.3.1.1304:

    1. Go to your Desktop.

    2. Double-click "My Computer".

    3. Double-click "C:".

    4. Double-click "Games".

    5. Double-click "Doom3".

    6. Click to open the "File" menu.

    7. Click "New".

    8. Click "Folder".

    9. Type: darkmod

    10. Press Enter.

    11. Double-click your new "darkmod" folder.

    12.Did the above.

Download tdm_update_win.zip if you hadn't already.

    13. Double-click on tdm_update_win.zip; you should see a window open up containing tdm_update.exe

    Right. That was done.

    14. Drag tdm_update.exe into the "darkmod" folder you just created.

Didn't have to drag it as it was already there where I put it

    15. Double-click tdm_update.exe.

Did that but screen just went momentarily blank then just came back up. Nothing was downloaded. This is where I presently am.

    16. Wait quite a long time for the game to download. Maybe overnight.

    17. When it finishes, double-click tdmlauncher.exe to run The Dark Mod. Fingers crossed, it should work and you should be able to play the training mission.

Well, it didn't work that way, at least not yet. Will need further quidance as I am greatly looking forward to getting into this game.

    Thanks for your help.

  15. Is there a space between Doom and 3 in you directory?

No there isn't. However I am trying something different. Instead of the example so frequently given, C:\games\Doom3\darkmod, my Doom directory is: C:\Doom3\ so I have just added darkmod to this path just so: C:\Doom3\darkmod. This is my latest try to make TDM work so for. I have downloaded this updater and I have gotten as far as: tdm_update.exe . I have tried to get this update.exe to work like double-clicking on it but it just goes blank with a black screen then comes right back on as it was before. So I have come this far but don't know how to download the Darkdmod thing, which I guess, is the Darkmod program itself which is supposed to take some time to download. So far nothing happens.

Thanks for any pointers on helping me to get darkmod to work.

  16. Go to C:\Games\Doom3, open the File menu, choose New, then choose Folder. Type darkmod. Hit enter. You now have a C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod folder.

I am unable to get the file to read 'Games\Doom3' to begin with. Would just 'Doom3' be enough and just add another folder called 'darkmod'?

  17. Hello,

I have created a new folder in the 'Doom3' folder, have followed directions on how to create a 'Dark Mod' folder but I cannot get it recognized by the computer. I have done this in the folder's tab,'C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod' When I press the 'Enter' key to put the path on the folder, I get this error msg: 'Cannot find file:///C:/Games/Doom3/darkmod'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.'

I'm stuck at this step. Please help me get through this part.

    Thanks,

    L. Blackthorne
