  1. No problem. When I looked for some manual Windows install instructions I didn't find any, so I had to figure it out myself. Just wanted to save others the trouble. That's not really surprising, and I'm thankful we got the Linux binaries to begin with. At least getting the binaries wasn't an empty promise like with UT3...
  2. I did look into remapping keys, but I couldn't get it working. I even went so far as attempting to change the scanmode, and again no luck. It might be errors on my part, but I doubt it. so, I know this isn't an ideal solution, but the arrow keys do work properly when you run Doom 3 with Wine. I tested this and while loading times are a little slower, performance is practically identical to the native install. At any rate, the issue is definitely with the linux version of Doom 3. So, install Doom 3 manually (wine setup.exe crashes) as follows: $ mkdir ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/ I have the 3CD version, so if you have a DVD version modify accordingly. Mount CD1 and copy the necessary files (for my setup, CD drive is mounted as /media/cdrom, so modify to suit your setup): $ cp -a /media/cdrom/Setup/Data/* ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/ Mount CD2 and CD3 and copy files: cp -a /media/cdrom/Setup/Data/base/* ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/base Download the Windows 1.3.1 patch (get the correct version from Dark Mod wiki) and install it: wine DOOM3-1.3.1.EXE Now test that Doom 3 works: wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/Doom3.exe As long as that works then 1) copy or 2) move the darkmod folder from ~/.doom3, or 3) create a symbolic link to it, whichever you want: 1) cp -a ~/.doom3/darkmod ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/ 2) mv ~/.doom3/darkmod ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/ 3) ln -s ~/.doom3/darkmod ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/ Now you can run tdmlauncher.exe with Wine: wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Doom\ 3/darkmod/tdmlauncher.exe EDIT: I've been testing this a little more, and there are a couple of rather small issues. Game will occasionally not restart when installing a mission. Just kill wine ("ctrl + c" if in a console) and restart the game.Leaning left/right/forward doesn't hold for too long, so you may want to consider setting "toggle lean yes" in the options.
  3. A lot of power supplies are overrated, which means that while they can do 500W, they can't sustain 500W for a long period of time. The most important thing to look for in a power supply is the wattage on the 12V rail. It's usually listed on a label on the side of the PSU, and better PSUs have two or three 12V rails (which is not entirely true, but is industry standard to say they have multiple rails). I recommend checking out Jonny Guru's Power Supply Reviews, to get a good idea of what you need in a PSU. The card itself doesn't require 550W, more like 300W. It needs high amps (40A+) on the combined 12V rail though, which is why Nvidia recommends 550W minimum. Some PSUs can deliver that rating with fewer watts, but most can't.
  4. Do you have any other Doom 3 mods (parallax, 3doom, etc) installed? Are you editing DoomConfig.cfg according to this page? Are you seeding the TDM torrent with your .doom3/darkmod directory? I was doing this originally and DoomConfig.cfg kept reverting to the original, so I unchecked DoomConfig.cfg from torrent sharing. Do you have any darkmod files in the Doom 3 root folder (eg, /usr/local/games/doom3)?
  5. Get the fms folder from your torrent then. I really don't know why it's repeating the error as it hasn't done that before. The fms folder should have nothing more than training_mission\training_mission.pk4 Delete the other training_mission folder and TDM will replace it when you start the game.
  6. Turning off Catalyst AI is the number one concern for ATI, but those other tweaks could help. It would help us help you if you would list your computer specs (CPU, OS, RAM, Sound card, and video card driver version).
  7. Do you have an ATI graphics card by chance?
  8. What's the big deal with Thiefs Den? I just downloaded it, installed it, and played it just fine. It doesn't affect the current TDM release since it creates it's own folder and you run it with a specific command. It's still playable and shows just how far the mod has come since it's release.
  9. I'm not sure what causes the problem, but there have been a few people that have had problems with spaces in Doom 3 folder names. Most of the time though, it doesn't cause any problems, so try it as is first.
  10. See this thread for a fix for that issue.
  11. Poor or overworked PSUs can cause a lot of system instability, especially during gaming, which just crashes games or applications. One way to test is to underclock your GPU, which should reduce the total draw on your PSU. See if it crashes less, and if it does then it's likely your PSU that is the problem. If not then we'll keep trying to find the source of the crashes, but seriously, it's been uncommon for Nvidia cards to crash, especially randomly like in your case. See here if you need a guide. You could also watch your temps to see if it's overheating.
  12. +---darkmod | \---fms | \---training_mission | \---savegames Something isn't right here, though I don't see how it would cause you to have to reinstall the training mission every time so the saves would work. This is what it should look like: +---darkmod | +---fms | | \---training_mission The training_mission folder should be inside the fms folder, and there shouldn't be a savegames folder inside the darkmod folder. What I suggest you do is to delete the fms folder and run tdm_update.exe. It should create the fms folder and download the training mission again. If that doesn't fix it let us know.
  13. Out of curiosity, have you upgraded your power supply? Your GTX285 requires a lot of power, and it's rare that an OEM PSU can properly handle that extra demand.
  14. That's interesting to know, thanks for sharing.
  15. Ahh, good. The reason I said that is because ATI doesn't support your X1950 under 7.
  16. Sorry that you are having these issues, but I really hope the Windows version you installed isn't 7...
  17. Even BrokenArts is dropping hints that she wants me to work with her to make one... She's never done anything in a map editor, and I've done little more than the tutorials with Dromed and Dark Radiant.
  18. What sound card do you have, and do you have EAX turned on?
  19. Each point on the graph is the daily total. The first day was 49 downloads: The daily totals are as follows: 49 + 120 + 161 + 83 + 52 + 26 for a grand total of 491
  20. Moddb is currently showing over 400 downloads since 10/17...
  21. See here for the solution to that problem.
  22. Thankfully TDM doesn't have those codecs! I did have some strange issues once I did the dual-core fix though, like no fog, and at least one instance of SHAS.
  23. These are the files added or replaced by the Extreme Quality Mod (3mood+parallax+brilliant): base - config.spec -- replaced game00.pk4 -- replaced binary.conf -- replaced gamex86.dll -- replaced glprogs - afxadd.vfp -- added afxblurb.vfp -- added afxweight.vfp -- added interaction.vfp -- replaced (original is 5.9KB, new is 4.9KB) materials - AFX.mtr -- added pak3Parallax.pk4 -- added (includes another interaction.vfp (3.3KB) a lot of new or modified Textures) EDIT > I tried to install this mod (Vista 32bit) but must not have done it correctly. TDM still worked properly, but Doom 3 had no lights. Still, I suggest installing a second instance of Doom 3, patching to 1.3.1.1304, and installing darkmod there. Keep your original install for your other games/mods.
  24. I'm willing to bet that the 3mood+parallax+brilliant mod is your problem. I just downloaded it and will check it out.
  25. I've been seeding the torrent since release and just ran the updater. Everything is fine and nothing was downloaded. Just make sure you are running it in the darkmod folder, not from another directory.
