  1. Did you re-download the thiefs_den_v1.0.exe file?

    You can use this link:

    http://bloodgate.com/mirrors/tdm/thiefs_den_v1.0.exe

A "torrent" is a different way to download files, you need a client to do so. One easy to use client is build-in the Opera browser. But I guess for now it is easier if you forget about the torrent :)

Nar nar nar, I didn't have to redownload the file, I just didn't install the patch properly. But yeah now I got another problem, ffs it's just one thing after another.

  2. Yay I fixed the other problem! But now I got a new problem...

When I start the Thief's Den up I get this "Error during initialization"

  3. Which looks very wrong to me. I'm quite sure that you haven't applied the patch in the right location. The right location is probably C:\games\doom3, assuming that's where you installed Doom 3.

    Please follow these instructions:

    1. Right-click on the shortcut that launches the unpatched version, and look at its target. Copy and paste the target here so we can see it.

    2. Do the same for the shortcut that has the error.

Oh yeah I did install the patch wrong, Thanks for the help, now I'm installing the mod again. I reply soon.

  4. You can't have an unpatched Doom3 and a patched Doom3 on your system at the same time (unless you copied them on purpose). The patch is applied to the unpatched version, after that process it is no longer unpatched (doh!).

Please post the contents of your Doom 3 folder and the base folder here (screenshot, post, whatever).

No really, I have got 2 doom 3 icons. One of them launches the doom 3 (unpatched one) and the other one comes up with the message of the missing file.

  5. @HalfKaztBoy: Your Doom 3 installation seems to be bogus. The pak000.pk4 - pak0004.pk4 files appear to be missing entirely. I'd advise you to reinstall Doom 3 + Patch and then try again.

Before I even posted this I reinstalled doom 3 and repatched it, same old problem :(

By the way that only happens to the patched version, but if I click on the unpatched doom it will run.

So basically I have an icon for unpatched doom and icon for the patched doom.

  6. I have patched doom 3 and now when I try to start it up it comes up with this

    Sys_InitNetworking: adding loopback interface

doom using MMX & SSE & SSE2 for SIMD processing

  7. In most if not all of your cases it is due to mis-installing the patch. The patch does not properly install into the correct directory. By default it says it will install in some C:/Program Files or something like that. You need to change it to install right into your main Doom 3 directory.

So just try to install the patch again, carefully setting the correct directory, and you should all be all set.

This same problem has occured over and over again for many people on various forums. I think it really needs to be added to the install directions for the mod on the wiki and elsewhere. It's getting to be a common issue.

Oh my god dude, your a ledgend! I bet thats why it wont' work ;)

  8. I didn't get any messages about file corruption when extracting the archive. Also, I downloaded my thiefs_den via torrent, so the download probably wasn't corrupt.

Perhaps checking md5 hashes is in order?

    thiefs_den_v1.0.exe: D162DFDB7B1C9F9A9D0AAAC915A75099

Also, here's a text file with the md5 hashes of the entire thiefs_den folder after extraction (sorry, I don't have a better place to host it):

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J5WD72PC

It would be cool if someone with a working install could verify the hashes match.

Just to be sure I'll download the file again to make sure the error in my case isn't because of file corruption.

Say in again in english what I am meant to do? Please.

  9. I'm just wondering if anyone else does this.

I play Thief deadly shadows only during winter because in game the weather seems to be very cold. So playing the game while it's cold seems to make me feel like I'm more part of the game, like I am actually experiencing the cold in the game.

I hope this has made sense to anyone. :)

  10. I'd have to agree, HL2 just didn't do it for me to be honest. I was a huge fan of HL1, it was the first game I had ever seen combine a great story with a fps and incorporate cut-scenes where you could move around.

I'm a majour half-life 1 fan, so many fond memories playing that game while eating french toast. It was my first fps game.

But no doubt that Thief Deadly Shadows is my favourite game.

  11. My problem is when it becomes obvious that the mapper has placed things just to give the player a way to "pass through completely undetected." Like those alcoves conveniently placed just far enough apart that you can get from one to another before a guard comes by. Or the guard that conveniently turns his back to the important doorway for 10 seconds every 30 seconds. Etc.

    That is so true.

  12. Hmm, I agree more than SE, but not completely.

Maybe your list is not things that are necessary to a good mission, but things that improve a mission. For instance, I would surmise that a good story isn't required for a good mission, but surely a good story wouldn't usually hurt a mission and would almost always improve it.

So, is there anything on your list that I think would actually hurt a mission? I think a twist could end up hurting things, throwing the player for a too-far loop maybe. Always including some humans might restrict some otherwise very cool non-human missions. Too much originality may just get weird.

But overall, I think most of the list are things that help a mission. And I personally LOVE a sense of discovery, very much a high point for me.

It's always good to have a story to the mission, story lines to the game always make the game better, with out it the game becomes dull. Well atleast for me.

  13. I disagree almost entirely.

Multiple ways to enter a building/complete a mission - This I agree with.

Plenty of Sneaking - This I agree with.

But the other things? No. Let me tell you why :)

Story - A mission does not need a story, certainly not of this type. If every mission has one they'll all end up being the same. Having a goal is a different thing.

A sense of discovery - No. Sometimes a house should just be a house.

A Living City - It doesn't have to take place in a city though! And it could be a city that is asleep. It's going to be at night after all and not everywhere will be open 24 hrs.

    Anticipation - Arguable.

A twist - Most certainly not. What are we? The M. Night Shyamalan of games? "Always" have a twist? What? No. Why? That just gets dull.

Originality - ...if you can create an entirely new faction or setting all the better... No, no no. Original yes, but new factions? Do we really want 30 different factions? I don't think so.

Keep it human - No, no and again no. How is this original? We should have a range of mission types.

Rewarding Loot - Again this is cookie cutter mission making. If I ever get this thing working and do any maps you will most certainly not have "candy" loot put around near mission objectives. It'll be realistically placed.

Sorry to put such a downer on your thread Mac but I think what you have suggested will end up with a set of missions that are to similar and actually lacking in originality. You can make a good mission in any way that you want.

Your an idiot. Thats all I can say, but your opinion sounds so dumb.

  14. Can you please post more information about the runtime error (maybe screenshot) as well as information about your system? (CPU, memory, graphic card etc.)

Also, can you start the dark mod, or does it crash before you can do this?

Did extracting the files from thiefs_den_v1.0.exe work or were there errors already? Do you have enough space on your harddisk?

I have the axact same problem as Fenn reported. I should have also added that when I axtracted the files it reported a number of files being corrupt (a whole list).

I do have enough space on my computer to install Thiefs Den and my computer is also good enough to run doom 3 on the highest quality with no lag at all.

  15. If you open up doom 3, bring down the console...what version of the patch do you have listed? It should end in 4. Someone else had a similar issue and it was because the patch didn't install correctly. I found the doom 3 patch difficult to install too, as it didn't seem to choose the correct installation path.

Also, you placed the devil.dll in your windows/system32 folder?

I got the same problem as well, I have placed the devil.dll in my windows/system32 folder. I have pachted Doom 3 and the game worked, but when I tryed to play the dark mod it comes up with that run time error.

If I have installed the patch incorrectly could you please tell me the correct installation path. (The patch works fine when I want to play doom 3 but not for the dark mod)
