  1. Another aspect of Dark Radiant that is far superior to DromEd is the ability to undo or make tweqs to your architecture later on without feeling a sense of dread. Being able to resize individual brushes of a room rather than a frightening "resize" command on the entire room has done wonders for my blood pressure. -DS:12
  2. ...well I do, gosh darnit and I'm impressed as hell! I love Dark Radiant. It is so much easier to work with than DromEd. I'm more impressed with the fact that this team has stayed focused on this project long enough to see it through. Kudos to you all. NH, you're a rock star, don't let some punk arse get your hackles up. I do have one complaint, though. I can't even get this stupid Mod to load on my Commodore 64. Jeez, how hard can it be? What do you guys do all day? -DS:12
  3. Congratulations, dear taffer! I tried to sneak in "Garrett" as a potential name for my son, but was quickly overruled. Welcome to the world of parenthood...the water's warm!!! -DS:12
  4. ...will try this evening. Thank you. -DS:12
  5. Hi, I'm using Dark Radiant build 0.9.12 and have run into an problem creating new brushes. Sometime over the weekend, I must have done something accidentally and now all new brushes won't texture correctly. The surface inspector shows crazy negative values and nothing I do (restart DR, restart Windows, etc) will make it go away. I'm simply cloning nearby brushes, so it's not a big deal, but it would be nice if I could make it go away. Here is a screenshot of a new brush - note the texture which seems completely stretch out to oblivion: http://www.rotterware.us/misc/newbrush.jpg Here is a screenshot of the surface inspector showing the negative settings: http://www.rotterware.us/misc/inspector.jpg Thanks for any help... -DS:12
  6. Nice work, Swordbreaker! It is a mystery no longer. Rebb, I'd be OK with a new protagonist. I'd prefer Garrett, but my doubts about a new hero were vanquished with T2X. Unless T4 is about Garrett's duties as a keeper, I think that it might be wise to develop a new character....as long as it's not a muscle-bound Conan clone or a young lady with breasts the size of bowling balls. There are websites for that sort of thing. ...I guess I am a bit excited; I just don't want to be let down again like T3. -DS:12
  7. I fear that it will be a "modern" Thief game. Since it will probably be written for consoles, it will be marketed to 13 year olds who have no interest in the Victorian era; only that the game comes with 6000 cheat codes in order to avoid the inconvenience of actually playing the game. I'm sorry to say that this generates no excitement at all for me. Then again, maybe I'm being overly pessimistic so that whatever it ends up being will seem better by comparison....a reverse psychology, if you will. Dark Mod will be the true Thief 4...it's just a matter of time. -DS:12
  8. Is there a complete list of the items that can be placed into the players startup inventory or equipment shop? Fidcal's tutorial lists the most common items, but it seems like there should be more. Thanks, -DS:12
  9. So, after finishing Fidcal's tutorial, I wanted to start building a small mission. I had hoped to do it without having to post much here at the guild, but I have a dilemma already... Should I start by creating a large skybox within which the castle will be built, or is it better to build from the inside out and make the outdoors as separate "rooms" adjacent to the outer walls of the castle?...or is there a better way? -DS:12
  10. I renamed the file and it did improve the frame rate to about 25, which is still too low for me to enjoy the mission. It looks beautiful, though...I can't wait to see it at 60 fps!!! I've learned to be ridiculously patient through the years. No big deal. -DS:12
  11. ...btw, I tried all of the performance tweaks that were listed in the wiki. FPS went from an average of 7 to about 10...still not playable. Hopefully by next weekend I'll have a new card and be zooming along just fine. -DS:12
  12. Thanks, NH - I'm ready for an upgrade anyway. In order to play Oblivion I had to turn off everything in the wilderness so that the entire area looked like a golf course - and I still had some lag. I don't want to have to go below 1024 x 728. Plus, sometime this year a game is going to come out that will turn my PC to ash if I don't get some newer hardware in it. -DS:12
  13. Thanks, Komag. I sent you a PM...I think...in fact I sent you two, but I'm not sure if they went through. This board is always trying to punk me. -DS:12
  14. I need some guidance on a graphics card. I tried to run Thief's Den and Tears of St. Lucia yesterday and consistently got 7 fps despite utilizing the performance tweaks. I suspect it's my graphics card. It ran Doom 3 at 50 fps, but I know that DM adds a lot of processing. So, firstly, looking at these specs, is it correct to assume it's the graphics card?: Pentium 4 @ 3.2 GHz 1 GByte of RAM running XP service pack 3 graphics card is...(don't laugh)... Radeon X550 So, I need some guidance on graphics cards that run this mod well. My budget is quite slim - 2 kids, 1 salary!!! If there is one for less than $100, great, otherwise, I'll need to start selling my wheat penny collection. It is unlikely I will buy a card new, so basically the oldest, used card I can get that will run well at 1024 x 728. Thanks so much, -DS:12
  15. ...sorry, I hijacked the thread. I'll create as a new post. -DS:12

  17. Very nice. It reminds me of Elder Scrolls Oblivion. The jerky AI in Thief was always something that damaged immersion a bit. This is such an improvement. Thank you. -DS:12
  18. I'm in the process of drawing out the concept for a mission and was wondering what sorts of things I should avoid using while DR and the Mod are still in development. I was planning to just do brushwork for now (are they called "brushes" in DR?). Once the mod is released, I could go back through it with all the objects and textures and AI. Should I play it safe like this, or it is unnecessary? Thanks, -DS-12
  19. ...just...one...more....DromEd....missio n....ugghh! The learning curve is going to be frustrating, but the Dark Radiant interface is so much more user friendly and intuitive. I hope there are a few small missions to play by year's end. Great work - Cheers! <DS-12>
  20. Get lots of sleep now...while you can!!! =DS12
  21. I think I'll go the LordSavage route and use the Thief's Den resources, follow the tutorials and see what happens. Rock on! =DS12
  22. Beautiful work....very encouraging. So, how much longer until there's a public release??? I can't wait to get started. There's a farmer's field that I bike past quite often. There is a small root cellar entrace into the side of a hill that is very creepy looking. I started a DromEd mission around it, but decided to wait for Dark Mod. There must be lots of people chomping at the bit. = DS12
  23. I would love to see some sort of swamp beastie that emerges from the muck when you get near it - like the possum zombies in T1/T2. - DS12
