Adding rendering features that change the look of the game (or at least existing maps) and make asset creation even more difficult is not a good idea for a game that relies on the work of hobbyists.

I don't know how these entities work in detail, in case your asking me. There seems to be some scripting involved. I have not looked closely at the implementation. But the way I do it often, is basically two entities (light and model/behavior), that have to be linked somehow. I just shrink down the original light, and target my light to it (Maybe any other way would not be that much different). But it means there is an extra light entity, when only one is used.

Fan Mission: Displacement By Amadeus & WellingtonCrab (02/01/26)
Baal replied to Wellingtoncrab's topic in Fan Missions
I don't know when I last downloaded the mission. But I assumed changes of any kind would result in a new version in the downloader. If that's not the case, that's kind of an issue. But thanks for the help; I'll just redownload. -
That does not solve the issue I described, unfortunately (it's a slightly different problem). There is another point (the "middle" of the light volume) that can't be changed. The model is always located at this point. I have to use a secondary light, to do what I want (as described in my ealier post). It's very inconvenient.

There is a missing model (playing on TDM 2.14). This is a very special mission. I love the way safe combinations are not just written down and lying around somewhere, for example. (Apparently I've gotten more stupid since I last played it, because I can't figure out the first and easiest one anymore) -

Fan Mission: A Reputation to Uphold, by Springheel
Baal replied to Springheel's topic in Fan Missions
I replayed this after what must be years now. Still a great mission. Found this issue. That's on the gate leading to the gangs territory. -
This was also always an issue for me. When I place lights, I like to control and fit the location of the light volume exactly into its environment (for example to keep lights from extending into adjacent areas or to create shadows). That means the center (or origin) of the light volume is at some random location in the room, and almost always the wrong place for the model (which is on the wall or ceiling in most cases). But that's how all the light entities work and I have to use an inconvenient workaround.

Fan Mission: Sir Talbot's Collateral by Baal & Bikerdude (15/04/2015)
Baal replied to Bikerdude's topic in Fan Missions
Thank you for playing and taking the time to post your thoughts. It is always appreciated. Hint: -
This also looks incredibly boring and uninteresting.
-
Unfortunately, that does not prevent the issue, as I discovered in my recent playthrough.

Hello, you did not mention "The Black Parade" (a campaign for Thief Gold). If you didn't know about that, you are in for a treat. As for Darkmod missions, I would recommend Kingsals Volta missions first. Only the first one takes place in a manor, the other two are more exotic locations.

I'm happy to give it a test run. -
Question: multple security cameras - one security monitor
Baal replied to Bikerdude's topic in TDM Editors Guild
I only skimmed over that, but the AI did one thing I also did. I removed the same function; not sure if it's for the same reason, but I deemed it unnecessary, too. -
I was wrong about the models. But I still think they don't fit the style of the original and the environments at all.
-
Yes, that's unfortunately still the best way to play UW1/2.
-
That is a cool project, but the 3D models ruin the original's charm for me. They're not recreations of the sprites, but taken from the asset store (as far as I know), and don't fit very well (especially the characters and monsters). I would rather play the original with the mouse look mod. You have to get used to how "ancient" it feels, but it is still a fantastic game.

Fan Mission: "The Maybury Idol, Part 1: A Trip to the Museum"
Baal replied to Jnon's topic in Fan Missions
Congratulations! It was fun testing this. There a lots of cool ideas in here, and a few "nice" suprises. Well done. -
On my last two playthroughs of this mission, I wasn't able to complete it because of the known Lily bug. That's unfortunate, but it was still fun playing. The map is so large that I found places I have never been before every time. I don't know how common that problem is. Maybe a warning for new players that the mission is kinda broken at the moment is appropriate?

I have seen sitting AI on the ground in at least one mission ("Seeking lady Leicester" in a secret area). Maybe that's applicaple for your case.
-
Thanks for the input. It's working as intended now. Ball fixed it.

I bought this at the end of last year; and even though it's early access, and will take a while to be completed, I did not regret it. It's a fantastic game. The visual style fits the dark and dirty setting perfectly. Everything else is very well done. The map-, creature-, and especially audio design is very creative. The next big area will be released in a couple of month (based on the last few updates); I'm looking forward to that. If you can live with a "Wait for the next update" screen in the middle of a game, I recommend this 100 percent.
