  1. Well, I would be interested to help out but I won't start anything new until my own mission is done. I guess others are also busy with their maps. It takes a lot of time. What kind of video will the trailer be? Something in the style of the Thief briefings or cutscenes?
  2. Calling the lack of time of these mappers an attitude, when you yourself said you can't build the missions for the same reason, sounds really bad. The teaser video you mentioned is a great idea if you really want to convince people to help you. How's that coming along?
  3. Doom 3 and the mod have a Linux port. You can run the game natively instead of using wine.
  4. If the 1600 is not a typo then your cpu is the bottleneck here. As far as I know the Doom 3 engine only utilizes one processor core and is more CPU dependent than the Crysis engine, which is a couple of years younger.
  5. I would recommend Undying. It uses the old Unreal engine and I don't know how well it aged, but I remember it having a great horror story and very atmospheric level design. Not a futuristic setting but you still kill things. Did you play Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and 2? If you liked Half-Life 2 you can't go wrong with them; they're a better, more refined version of the game.
  6. I'm looking forward to this but I don't think it will be much of an RPG anymore. It seems like this time, they streamlined character attributes (strength, endurance etc.) away. I could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised about it. But if it's more a combat simulator it might still be a good game.
  7. I installed the debian edition of linux mint on my sisters netbook. That's a rolling release distro based on debian testing instead of ubuntu like the other mint editions. So far it works fine and my sister likes it. It comes with gnome and I don't know how well that runs on older machines but you can boot it from stick or cd/dvd in case you want to test it.

    Doom 3 mods

What a terrible thing to do. I would never confess that I did that.
  9. Arcturus are great. And I would recommend this to everyone who is into metal: Enslaved - Ethica Odini: http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

    Ruiner Mod

There's a linux port now that needs a little testing. I can't do it at the moment so maybe someone here is interested. [/url]Doom3World thread.
  11. When the mod wasn't released yet, qualified mappers where given limited access to the mod to test it. That's not necessary anymore since everything is public now.You have everything you need.
  12. I'm running System Shock 2 with a recent version of wine and a Radeon 4650 on the catalyst drivers. Runs fine. Maybe Thief is playable now too.
  13. The crypt looks great, bikerdude. I would use a different texture on the floor though (for a bit of contrast).
  14. I haven't played the (full) Penumbra games, but it seems Amnesia is much less about puzzle solving than its predecessors. There is an early gameplay preview that shows a more involved version of The puzzles are simple but it's about the experience and I don't have a problem with this; the game is great as it is. I have never felt so tense just opening a door in a game.
  15. I immediately preordered it after trying the demo. It's a great game, cheap and they provide a linux version. Terrific deal.
  16. Hey, I recognise the place from the second and third pics. Good to see something done with the community map. It had some nice parts that should see the the light of day in some form.
  17. I can test the linux version. Is there a tag in the svn repository and does it build under linux? And I don't know if i can get to it before next week.
  18. Perhaps. Or maybe I snuck in and stole your ideas. That's how it's done in this game.
  19. A little sign of life from me. Instead of finishing a vertical contest mission I decided to work on my previous map (that, by the way, started as a contest entry too. I suck at contests. ) WIP:
  20. I haven't looked at the map file in the editor but maybe simplifying pathfinding with monsterclip could help the ai performance issues. I don't know enough about how the ai works but it's worth a try. And great mission by the way.
  21. This is very cool. I'm a fan of Melans Thief missions but never really played this because of the bad performance. I'm looking forward to finally finishing it. Send me a PM when you need a tester.
  22. Great post. The best example of the engines capabilities and how you use them for great effect is still Doom 3 itself (Quake 4 or Prey too of course). A lot of people don't like Doom 3 but it achieves a terrific atmosphere. Mappers should take a close look at it.
  23. After I build something I inspect it in game and then change/rebuild (scale, layout, textures etc.) what I don't like. It starts with very basic brushes and gets more detailed along the way. And it usually takes a lot of repeats before I'm satisfied with the results.
  24. Bikderdude really is a fast builder. And it looks great, too. I have to iterate over and over something before it turns into something I like...
