  1. Alright I got it. Thing is that the voice actors often overplayed their roles in Thief 1 and 2 in a way that didn't appeal to me. I appreciated the drama and story much more.
  2. Someone's going to appreciate Forrest Gump, others are going to stick to the new Jim Carrey and someone out there just rewatches Chaplin for the 20'th time.
  3. I really don't know, for instance I didn't find this funny very much: But I guess you can't argue about someone's sense of humor, it's way too subjective.
  4. Any progress? I'd really love to help but not sure if I can pull it off, though ambients are a favourite even outside Thief or The Dark Mod.
  5. There is a lot with the amount of dialogue in there. I'd say that it's more to do with the voice actors probably, rather than the writing. Well, some people are more sensitive to it than others I guess. The humor was pretty much the same for me in all 3 games. I didn't notice a significant difference.
  6. You know, the fact that T3 implemented the Factions system probably exposed the weaknesses and sillyness of The Pagans just like that. You have a couple of bases around The City and an entire level with the Pagan Sanctuary dedicated entirely to them. In Thief 1 most of the encounters with them were through cutscenes, various non-human enemies and only seldom human pagans who didn't speak that much in the first place. The Pagans were always kind of around but also an enigmatic entity. Even Thief 2 had that hostility of The Pagans in The Trail of Blood despite the main mystery uncovered in Thief 1. The very fact that you can be friends with Pagans changes some of the attitude towards them.
  7. I recall the rhyme. But reason? Just because! Why are Hammers are inclined to speak old English? I don't know why Garret lives in a rent appartment whereas supposedly the money he makes could relieve him of living like a student on internship. I know a Thief has to be on the move all the time but... sometimes when he says that "I steal to pay my rent" is really odd. There are questions to the story at some points. Why not take a house in the suburb or something ?
  8. Wait, wasn't that the case in Thief 1 and 2 as well?
  9. Well, do you take burricks seriously? Weren't they part of some sense of humor? I hope I'm not confusing you. I mean, in my understanding they were supposed to be more like a "cool" thing to add variety in the underground sections of the game but instead they were annoying since they ran faster (I think) than the other NPC's and had that spit they could through at 10 meteres.. In Thief 3 at least the Kurshok were more predictable and less annoying to deal with. Also they were part of the storytelling. All of that lore with how they ended up there. Together with the Reptiles who were with the Pagans in the Kurshok mission, curious twist. I fancied them from that point of view. I'm not sure if the Kurshok were supposed to be a humorous smurf analogy of the Pagans but they were ok I guess. At least there's only like 2 instances they can be met throught the entire game.
  10. Roadside Picnic was the original story. REALLY baffling that the Strugatski brothers behind it kind of anticipated Chernobyl as did the writer and director of the motion picture "Stalker". But it's not for everyone I guess. Not everyone appreciates science fiction the way it's done for example with "Solaris" I mean the book and the 1972 movie.
  11. Aha! No Russian and Romanian version of this article!
  12. Ah yes, how could I fall for that? The voice changers should be functional though. Those things aren't a myth.
  13. What about burricks in Thief Gold ? Got to agree with that. The underground dwellers weren't interesting to me neither in Thief Gold with burricks in various caverns nor in Thief Deadly Shadows with Kurshok Pagan reptiles. The other things were a pleasant distraction (when first playing the game).
  14. You're going to laugh but there are ! Probably the more high-quality apps are not free though, unlike the amature just for laughs programmes. But who knows?
  15. Was the idea of using a voice changing application/program voiced? A couple of years ago through a very primitive program a friend amazed me how well one can work over Skype (as a rough example). If the program can work really well, this can save the effort of looking for someone to do the job in certain cases when trying to achieve a certain voice provided the quality is sufficient to meet the standards. Pitching the voice up/down, trying various accents. Voice sticks with you for your entire life regardless how much you'd like to hide your identity. I wonder if it can be practical to try this little cheat.
  16. The humor was nice and really was in line with the way it was done in Thief 1 & 2. I don't know what you mean by cheap humor: And hey The Dark Mod's levels aren't super big either! We've got some mods that combine the chunks of Thief 3's levels into bigger levels (I believe there were some people that started doing this a couple of years ago) but there's always room to grow!
  17. This is going to be changed until 2.04? It would be really awesome to have different sounds like in Thief. I see that it was added to the bugtracker: http://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=4206
  18. Wow your missions get better all the time! This really has a huge deal of professionalism to it! I am blown away by your approach. Half way through the 2'nd part of the FM... it MUST be at the top of some FM list, a special asterisk and underlined ( 5 FM's to play before you die).
  19. Maybe just stick with teenagers?
  20. Oh I expected for some reason that "a long time" was a year or more! Doesn't matter, the similarity to the Pagan creatures from Thief 1 is really there. However I have the feeling that the low-res textures in Thief 1 made those monsters look more like Paleolithic brutes somehow. Your approach really reminds me of "The Fly" where the dude completely transforms..
  21. Yeah, well nothing's perfect I guess. But this series is special. The fact that replaying allows to find new things in the story rather then see new bugs and faults is a testament to it. It's a tremendous FM!
  22. It's awesome! When did you start this exactly?
  23. Ah yes, that explains ! I was thinking - how could he write something like that, especially in a church?! But now that you mention it... It was just a chapel... So, why not revolt a little? (Although I want to think that most priests don't think like philosphers!) That's why it was so illuminating (at least in the struggle for power section) Yes, it was really well focused with nice small stories around. The small distances though don't make it instantly obivous on whose territory you're stepping into until reading the papers (the barn houses bandits, or the people who're supposed to guard the secret box with precious loot?) But never mind all that. The mission had a great feeling for me.
  24. Just finished it. This was a really enigmatic experience. A very strong point to note is the writing and the design of the mission - great, great job with that. You simply broke the fourth wall with the priest's readable in the footlocker mentioning Montesquieu by the way I didn't expect such a thorough meditation on religion and power! The criticism expressed earlier regarding the darkness, the spots where you can get stuck while platforming, in the dilapidated buildings - is especially valid but all worth it up to the end for the final sequences. It's a really good mission but small adjustments can make it a big favourite (just because the platforming can be so hard). Thanks updating the mission for TDM 2.0!
  25. Don't worry, computers are pretty cheap in the 2'nd world. If anything, I'd say internet, Wi-Fi, tablets, PC's are really, really affordable even for the not so rich individuals around Eastern Europe from what I'm a witness of.
