Just played around in a pretty impressive demo for the graphical capabilities of the U4 engine. Try it for yourself: www.benoitdereau.com/UnrealParis_-_1.2.rar

GTAV on PC confirmed to have full first-person mode. Looks amazing! http://www.vg247.com/2014/11/04/gta-5-first-person-mode-confirmed-for-ps4-xbox-one-pc/

5K would be amazing if Macs weren't terrible for gaming for their price. Hell, 4K has a 0.02% usage rate on the Steam hardware stats :|
-
Cool. I want. @Anderson, there's a first person mod for GTA4 that's respectable.

Winter nights are coming, and I've got that mapping bug again. Time to catch up on TDM!

It's a contrast thing. Cold and miserable outside, warm and comfy inside. Nothing better than hot cocoa, a warm blanket and your favorite book/music/movie /game in wintertime.
-
It is known.
-
That's very true - I just prefer my winter in the middle of the year, so when I get my weeks off at the end of the year, I can actually do something with them.

Played MGS: Ground Zeroes over the weekend, not sure if I like the shift in tone from goofy yet philosophical to grimdark torture porn.

Did you play GZ yet? Some of those scenes got me squeamish, and I've got a pretty good stomach for this sort of thing. I guess violence against children is just something you don't really expect in games out of all mediums. While it was handled well, I can't help shake the feeling that all those scenes weren't exactly necessary. It's clear there is no more room for comedy in MGS.
-
Yeah there was no room for comedy, but no room for justification either. When OG Snake got his eye shot out I felt for him so hard, and now it seems more carnivalesque than emotional.
Won't get the same feels as I did with Snake Eater, that's for sure.
-
I did kinda' think that the emotional downfall of Snake was well done however. With Kiefer doing the VA and Snake appearing apathetic to all sorts of crazy shit in the new game, you lose empathy for him real quick. Good set-up for those inevitable MG1&2 remakes ;-)

Just put out my new FM: Breaking out the Fence. Check the Fan Mission section if you fancy a hour or two of good old skullduggery.

Runs pretty smooth and lighting is pretty nice in what I've played thus far. Nice patrols too. Well done!
-
Loving this awesome influx of FM's.. lets hope the pattern continues
-
Nice...I'll play Goldwell's first, then this

I've been thinking of asking this earlier: is it a known engine quirk that the player can clip through walls by strafe-running along them in TDM?

maybe the devs could sell it as DLC?

Is that considered a secret area? :-D

Dishonored 2 is coming? http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2014/03/dishonored-2-darkness-of-tyvia.html despite its Thiefish roots, i always felt Dishonored was more of a Victorian age Deus Ex - and a good one at that. Hoping for the best with the sequel.

yeah!but money rules u know?

What Sotha said, more of the same please!
-
@astumpy: Who knows, maybe it will be a prequel? It's all the rage these days... Also, maybe we'll get to know more about that great sickness this way, how it all started etc.

Irrational Games are doing a pretty cool reference to Thief with Bioshock: Burial at Sea and "1998-mode". http://irrationalgames.com/insider/announcing-1998-mode/

Decided to try some games I picked up on Steam sales. Ended up playing through Call of Juarez: Gunslinger in one sitting. Absolutely the best shooter I have played in years. If you like FPS games even in the slightest and haven't played it - just do it. You'll thank me later.

Looking back, despite 2013 being a pretty bad year for PC gaming in general, it was a good year for FPS games with old-school spirit. We got Gusnlinger, Blood Dragon, Shadow Warrior, Metro: Last Light and probably a few others I can't remember now. Apparently the ROTT remake was good as well?
-
I got SW on steam when it was cheap a few days ago..
-
Well had a go at Left4Dead2 because it was FREE, but now I see why it was free.....

So, anyone else taking part in the 28th Ludum Dare? Only about 16 hours until go time, can't wait! http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/

Self-taught, I guess you could say a hobbyist. I can do quite a bit of C and C++, but for the purposes of Ludum Dare I always fall back on Game Maker and GML (which is an amalgamation of C/C++ and Java with focus on game development). I know its frowned upon in some circles, but I'm of the opinion that its not the tools but the end-result that matter!
-
I should join one at some point, but I always chicken out...
-
I always wanted to make a game, but I don't have the coding skills required. Maybe at some point I'll teach myself some C++. I used to write some text-adventures with BASIC and Turbo Pascal when I was a kid.

Do we have a "taking a leak" animation?

I don't think there's a formal ban from having genitalia depicted in TDM, but... It's a matter of demographic age I think. Is it easy to slap a mature content warning on TDM because of the possibility that a few missions have visible genitalia. Per mission basis maybe?
-
please no penises
-
GameDevGoro: but we already have blood spilling out from deforming face wounds. Do we really need a separate warning for male genitalia?
Also, better to point this discussion to Sotha's Animation thread in Art Assets. I'll close this discussion, so please continue there.
