  1. That's a really lovely shot. The lighting emphasises depth, and that gravel is a nice touch. Can't wait to play it.
  2. Gimme a minute. I'll find the 23 in there too, but I'm not as good as you. Really, though, I read that 2/3 and 4/9 were fairly common in architecture and then noticed that that lines up with my ceilings and doors.
  3. This is a really minor discovery of mine that probably doesn't deserve its own thread and will only interest me, but I couldn't see another that I could post this in. I was playing around with blocks of different sizes using ratios to see what looks nice. Almost every room I make is 160 units high because it feels right. 2/3 of 160 is about 104, which is the height of most of the doors I use. 4/9 (which is 2/3 squared) of 160 is about 71 which is close to level with the player's vision. Maybe my mathematics skills are rudimentary, but my mind == blown. I'm going to play around with some more ratios and see what happens.
  4. Crashed DR with an infinite python loop and then the map corrupted. Muhahaha.

    death...

I'm probably too drunk to reply succinctly. Nothing had to exist. I'm constantly awestruck by the fact that anything does at all. Merry Christmas, all. Whether you take it seriously, or see it as an excuse to party, have fun!
  6. Hey, those were really good! Thanks for sharing. I find so much metal frustrating when it can't live up to its introduction. Here's a snapshot of some of my random favourites. Not sure whether any of it would be considered progressive. - I think the album is supposed to be an opera based on evolution. Yumi Nakashima - I only really like this song by her. Idiot Flesh - Probably influenced by Frank Zappa, except that this appeals to me. - I love this band immensely, but never got into Buckethead's other stuff. - None of my favourites were on youtube, but this is good. - As in: "You weren't expecting it." Jean-Claude Risset - I honestly enjoy this. And, I'll stop before this becomes spammerific.
  7. The real fun starts when it's released and players new to the series start registering. I've got my deckchair and hazmat suite ready.

    Sky & water

Thank you. I'll give it a try.

    Sky & water

There seems to be a square in the bottom left corner of the screen where water renders correctly. I took some screenshots of the zoomed sky and underwater scenes, but there's probably little point in posting them since you can hardly make out anything.
  10. I'm unsure how to, or whether it would improve things. I guess it doesn't matter now - at least on my end.
  11. The TDM Updater could use an extra new line between every downloaded package during installation. Currently it's hard to read the information.
  12. I have just reinstalled TDM and all of the skies seem to have a strange FOV, like you're zooming into them with binoculars. Similarly, when I jump into water my entire vision does this. Water also appears either black on the surface, or with severe visual ripping/artifacts (not sure how to describe). Win XP SP3, Intel T2300 @1.33Ghz (2 CPUs), 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400. Unfortunately I can't update my drivers since it's a shitty Sony laptop that seems to be locked in.
  13. Well, I've already got ideas on paper, and they'll easily fit within 1280. My documents affectionately refer to this as Fidcal's Big-ass Tower Contest.
  14. I'm currently making a mission, but I'd be happy to put it down and make something smaller so that I can finally release something. I could also take a break from getting too grandiose. I don't mind about the restrictions. The small proposed space would be fun to work around, but perhaps not if you already have a city section in mind. Time to get creative I think. I'll start on it when the rules are finalised.
  15. Yeah, they really go for tiny increments in version number. 2.25 came out 8 years ago and now we're on 2.5 alpha 2. Just make sure you have a tutorial for the correct version. 2.49 has a tonne on youtube and vimeo. Also the manual on their wiki will cover it. I might be wrong but I think they stripped that out ages ago. It probably got merged with edit mode. I vaguely remember the UV Face Mode, but it's been a while.

    TDM Vocals

Well, that's me out of the picture then. I've lived in Hull for too long. But regarding accents for the mod: I think it would be worth trying to avoid any regional accents. Ideally it would be great not to be able to distinguish between whether they are American, English, etc. Many of the vocal sets from Thief do this, and it works so well. Articulate, but neutral.
  17. O. M. G. Have you even played a single Thief 2 fan mission? There seriously is a lot of good stuff, and in itself T2X is a brilliant experience.

    Thief Gold

I've just played through Thief Gold for the first time and I also found myself pressing non-existent TDM keys. "Damn, no mantle key." As an aside: I don't think Gold is really that good. The new levels aren't great, and add nothing to the narrative of the game. The Lost City is my all-time favourite Thief level and the mages that have been added to it ruin the impact of this treacherous, and long forgotten, ruin. You find them casually wandering around the undisturbed remains of one of the Keepers who didn't make it out alive, and it sort of puts a dampener on the atmosphere.

    Deus Ex 3

Here's to hoping that the entire game isn't in sepia, though. Films and games that pick a single colour and stick to it often feel boxed in and tiring in my opinion. I actually quite liked Alien 3 for it, but that's an exception. One thing about TDM that I've mentioned before, and it's up to the mappers to alter, is that the default yellows eminating from torches make missions look monotonous.
  20. Greebo's? I thought there was a goofos exporter.
  21. I'm pretty sure the entire thing is rendered.

Actually, now that I listen again, has she used some of the other vocal sets as a reference to practise against? It sounds like she's trying to replicate them.

    TDM Vocals

I agree that it could do with a little work, but I played Clive Barker's Undying recently, and man, those fake Irish accents are amazingly bad. Generally, I like her voice.
  24. For outside areas I just block it out and then run around pretending to have fun. My id then tells me what to build next. If I feel like climbing onto something at a certain point would be fun then I make it so. I start building big outdoor areas inside a large cube of sky until everything is well defined enough to enclose it properly. For interiors I think of the function of the room. I start with a corner and then build the walls around properly placed furniture. That way you can get the spacing correct. I don't like dead-space. For areas which aren't aligned to grid, like curved streets, I roughly block it out how I want it. Select everything that isn't aligned and then export as map. New map -> import it. I then try and line it up best I can, and then use that as a base to build properly on the grid. After it's finished I import that into my original map after deleting the rough reference, rotate the whole thing and line it up. Then I stitch the brushes together.
  25. Thanks. I'm trying to pay more attention to proportions than detail.
