  1. Hiya. Thank you for sharing the link, and for the comments. I'm the guy who made these songs - originally for the Thief 2 Fan Mission campaign "The Hammerite Imperium". This campaign unfortunately didn't go anywhere in the end (the first mission was released with the help of BikerDude among others), so almost all of these tunes were left unused. Therefore I released them for free, so that anyone can use them in their fan missions, or in other non-profit endeavors.
  2. I'm actually the most impressed with the movements I can do in Thief than with any other game I've played so far (I haven't tried Mirror's Edge). I guess it has something to do with the fact that Thief strives to be close to realism while still allowing you to move with as much freedom as you can pull off - meaning that the focus is on the player's skill rather than the character's. This combination makes at least me really appreciate it when I can pull off a combo of, for example, running along the railing, jumping from obstacle to another, avoiding arrows while doing so, and ending with a daring jump to safety to that pool 5 meters below. And even if you can't do that flawlessly, the ability to correct errors as you go is good enough. Judging from the demo missions, The Dark Mod handles this well already, and in some areas (mantling comes to mind) even better than the original Thief series. The way I see it, shimmying would be nice, but not necessary because that can be substituted with allowing the player to climb on to of the ledge he would be shimmying and just walking there.
  3. Thank ye. That echoed piano thing is one of my favorite parts, if not the favorite, of the whole package. And I generally don't even enjoy piano that much. Well, good things can happen when one just bangs the keyboard when he's bored Tool wasn't a direct influence, but I do acknowledge the similarities. Some have also compared it to Massive Attack, although I don't really hear the likeness myself. Also, You can probably tell I was inspired by the Moira themes in Thief 3 when it comes to some of my piano & strings stuff in Disturbed.
  4. Thank ye guys. The good people of darklurker.com & darklurker.org agreed to host the '16 bit 44 kHz' wave files, and you can download a zip archive of all the songs from either of these links (my initial post also contains these links now): - http://www.darklurker.com/sounds/atolonen/...bit44kHzWav.zip - http://www.darklurker.org/sounds/atolonen/...bit44kHzWav.zip I think it's probably most convenient if you guys do the conversion. That way you can use the exact settings, quality, etc. you want with them, and you can do whatever editing you want on the uncompressed source waves without worrying about losing quality.
  5. Glad to hear the stuff is grin-inducing. I hope it's a happy grin. As far as I know the streamed versions are lower bitrate. Don't know what their actual bitrate is, because the site didn't deem it necessary to tell me. They were converted automatically from the 160 kbps versions by the site when I uploaded those. Therefore you get one mp3 compression on top of another one on the streaming versions. Not exactly HiFi stuff, but at least the downloadable 160 kbps versions are unaltered by the site.
  6. Do you guys need more ambient music? I decided to release all the music I had done for the Hammerite Imperium to the community. I made over 60 minutes of music for it - mostly ambient, neoclassical, and such mellow stuff that works as unobtrusive background music, but there is also one electro/industrial metal tune. Everyone is free to use these in their FMs, and other non-profit ventures, so they wouldn't be exclusive to Dark Mod or any other project, but you have my permission to include/distribute them with Dark Mod if you so wish. You can even modify them if you want to. I've been meaning to release all of these for quite some time now, but I just kept procrastinating. I had to redo one song (Disturbed) from scratch because of file corruption and I wanted to remix everything after I had learned more about mixing, mastering, etc. Well, long story short, I finally took the time to lay this eternity project to rest, and you can download all the finished stuff from the first link below. - More Information & Downloads - Listen to all the songs in order @ Mikseri - 160 kbps MP3 files hosted at Mikseri - '16 bit 44 kHz' wav files hosted by the good folk at Darklurker: http://www.darklurker.com/sounds/atolonen/...bit44kHzWav.zip http://www.darklurker.org/sounds/atolonen/...bit44kHzWav.zip - 16 bit, 44kHz wave files @ Filefront EDIT: added links to CD quality '16 bit 44 kHz' wav files
  7. Greetings, people of the dark. I played through St. Lucia (and Thief's Den too) a couple of weeks ago, and I must say I like, I like a lot. I'm actually so overwhelmed with amazement that I probably can't dissect my experience thoroughly. Everything was to my liking. The gameplay worked well, the visuals were just how I want Thief to look (and I love that you went with a medieval setting in this mission), and the audio suited the atmosphere flawlessly. A couple of specific points: - I loved how effortlessly the mantling worked. At last I don't have to worry if I'll be able to catch a ledge and hold onto it during the whole of the ascent. - The object manipulation and puzzles designed for it were great. I can imagine it giving plenty of opportunities for mission creators. - I would have loved to have had been able to assign a dedicated key to "run forward" in addition to "walk forward", and "creep forward" like it was in the original Thief 1 & 2. I did see you say it was a limitation of Doom 3, and that you can't change it. Anyways, I can always get accustomed to using a key to make you run, but would it be possible to make a "toggle run" or an "always run" thingy? All in all, playing this mission has proved that this is a worthwhile project (not that I ever doubted it). My fullest appreciation to ye guys and gals. I'll raise a glass or a dozen in your honor.
